Man pleads not guilty to hacking celebrity e-mails

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A Florida man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to hacking into e-mail accounts to access and distribute nude photos and other personal information of numerous celebrities including actress Scarlett Johansson.

Christopher Chaney, 35, of Jacksonville, Florida was arrested on October 12 after an 11-month investigation dubbed "Operation Hackerazzi" by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Chaney was charged with 26 counts of cyber-related crimes for hacking into e-mails of "The Avengers" star Johansson, along with actress Mila Kunis ("Black Swan") and singer Christina Aguilera. Other victims were identified only by their initials, which included B.P. and J.A., among them.

The photos of 26-year-old Johansson showed her topless and in a towel with an exposed backside. She revealed in a Vanity Fair magazine interview they were taken for her now ex-husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, when they were still married.

Leaked photos of Kunis showed her in a tub filled with bubbles, showing only her face.

The day after he was arrested, Chaney told a Jacksonville, Florida TV station that he became addicted to prying into the affairs of celebrities and apologized.

"I was almost relieved months ago when they (the FBI) came and took my computer ... because I didn't know how to stop, he told the TV station.

On Tuesday, a Los Angeles judge set a trial date of December 27 and freed Chaney on a $110,000 bond. He will be allowed to return home, but must wear a court monitoring device.

If convicted of all the crimes, Chaney faces up to 121 years in jail.

Another celebrity is let go from 'Dancing' (AP)

By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer Sandy Cohen, Ap Entertainment Writer – Tue Oct 11, 10:39 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – Chynna Phillips forgot her routine on Monday's "Dancing With the Stars," and on Tuesday she was dismissed from the show.

"I'm disappointed," she said after learning she'd be leaving. "I'm sad, but I have to take responsibility. I messed up."

Phillips lost her place in the middle of her tango with professional partner Tony Dovolani and wasn't able to recover.

"I blanked," she said. "I knew that routine. I just blanked."

Judges gave the pair 21 points out of 30. Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine which contestant is eliminated each week.

"I'm very grateful to have been on the show and had the opportunity," Phillips said Tuesday. "Thank you everyone who voted for me."

Her husband, Billy Baldwin, who has cheered her on from the ballroom each week, said that his wife "stumbled out of the gate (on Monday) and had her first bad week in four weeks."

Phillips was among Monday's lowest scorers. Carson Kressley, who was in last place with 20 points, and Chaz Bono, who tied with Phillips, were saved by viewer votes to dance another week.

Also returning next week to dance to 1980s hits will be Ricki Lake, J.R. Martinez, David Arquette, Nancy Grace, Rob Kardashian and Hope Solo.

Phillips is the fourth contestant eliminated so far on this season of the hit ABC show. Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest), Elisabetta Canalis and Kristin Cavallari were ousted on previous episodes.

Tuesday's results show also featured performances by Raphael Saadiq and Susan Boyle, and the return of two-time "Dancing" champ Julianne Hough. The professional dancer-turned-actress showed off some of the moves she'll be rocking when the remake of "Footloose" opens in theaters Friday. Hough and co-star Kenny Wormald danced to "I Need a Hero" before Blake Shelton offered his take on the movie's title song.

Woman faces prison in LA celebrity burglary ring (AP)

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer – 16 mins ago

LOS ANGELES – A woman accused of being one of the ringleaders of a group of young adults who broke into celebrities' homes faces up to four years in prison after pleading no contest Friday to burglarizing the home of reality starlet Audrina Patridge.

Rachel Lee, 21, made the plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors, who will drop charges of accepting stolen property and engaging in a conspiracy, district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said.

Authorities have said Lee helped orchestrate break-ins at the homes of stars such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Lee was initially charged with a burglary at Lohan's home, but a judge dropped that count last year.

Lee's attorney, Peter Korn, did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.

Lee is the second member of the so-called "Bling Ring" to enter pleas in the string of burglaries. Alexis Neiers, whose case was featured on an E! Entertainment Television series about her, last year pleaded no contest to burglarizing Orlando Bloom's home.

Prosecutors estimate the group stole more than $3 million in jewelry, designer clothes and accessories from the stars' homes, much of which has never been recovered.

Lee will be sentenced on Oct. 21.

The remaining defendants have pleaded not guilty. That group includes Nicholas Prugo, another alleged mastermind of the burglaries, who has argued for leniency because he spoke to detectives and got some of the stars' property returned.

Perez Hilton launches celebrity family website (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hollywood blogger Perez Hilton is in a family way, sort of.

On Tuesday, Hilton is expanding his work of serving up the latest dish on Hollywood stars by launching a new website focused on celebrity families and kids called Perezitos.com.

He will offer parents advice from pediatricians and a wide variety of people he calls "mommy experts" to create original content. He sees the new website as a natural next step after toning down his rhetoric about the stars and broadening his blogging into other domains of health, fashion and fitness.

"It's very exciting because it's just another example of how celebrity news doesn't need to be negative. People love babies and children and pregnancies. People love weddings; people love new couples. It's not just about train wrecks and out-of-control celebrities," Hilton told Reuters.

Hilton, 33, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, rose to fame after launching his celebrity blog, PerezHilton.com, in September 2004. It now averages 200 million page views a month, and Internet traffic monitoring site Alexa.com ranks it 310th out of all U.S.-based websites.

Initially, Hilton made his name by addressing celebrities in a vicious manner, drawing over their pictures and often giving them self-styled monikers such as the term "Maniston" for "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston. He has also outed gay celebrities like actor Neil Patrick Harris.

But in October 2010, responding to a spate of gay teen suicides and bullying across the U.S., Hilton toned down his malicious style. The change has worked wonders, he said, not just on his site but on his own personality.

"I've had some people say they miss the old Perez but thankfully, the majority of the comments are people embracing this change and direction, and at the end of the day, the reason I made the shift was for myself," he said. "I can still be critical, and I am, and I can still talk about celebrities, but I can do it in a way that's not mean and hurtful and nasty. My new motto is 'be sassy.'"

POSITIVE PEREZ

Perezitos.com joins Hilton's growing list of specialized spin-offs such as CocoPerez.com, which focuses on fashion news and FitPerez.com, which looks at health and fitness. The sites are meant to be more positive, according to Hilton.

"This has just been the most amazing 12 months of my life, both professionally and personally. I've grown so much and learned so much in the last 12 months, and what I've done is, I've made very simple but important steps and changes on PerezHilton.com, and how I operate my business," he said.

His focus on celebrity families and children comes as a "natural next step" to him, he said, because it is a topic that he considers himself "naturally curious about."

Still, prying into the private lives of Hollywood stars and their kids raises questions of where to draw the line between a celebrity who seeks fame and a child or other family member who either does not or is not old enough to know the difference.

"I'm definitely mindful of respecting celebrities and their children and I've definitely, in the past when I was working on the main site, made mistakes in covering celebrities and their children," confessed the blogger.

Hilton admits that he is now cooperative when celebrities such as Nicole Richie ask him not to use certain photos of their children.

"I don't want to contribute to the paparazzi doing things they shouldn't be but if they're getting photos in public and no laws are being broken, I don't think that's a bad thing," said Hilton. "People love looking at those photos of Halle Berry and her adorable little daughter."

Hilton has written one children's book, "The Boy with Pink Hair," and he sees his independent spirit coupled with his changed manners of the past year as being perfect for publishing material aimed at families and kids.

"It's a great message to show young people that just because you're behaving in a certain way, doesn't mean it's the best way," said Hilton. "You have the ability to change your actions and change your future, and I'm so much happier now in the direction that I'm heading."

Betty White voted America's most trusted celebrity: poll (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Seems like former "Golden Girls" actress Betty White really does have the Midas touch.

White, 89, is both the most popular and most trusted celebrity with Americans and the person most likely to drive up the business of a brand she might choose to endorse, according to a poll released on Wednesday.

But the Reuters/Ipsos poll suggested that companies should stay away from Paris Hilton and Charlie Sheen if they want to promote their products.

The socialite and reality TV actress, and the fired "Two and A Half Men" star topped the list of the most unpopular and least trusted personalities and were deemed most likely to damage any brands they choose to support.

White, the only surviving member of the key cast members of TV's "Golden Girls" 1980s comedy, has enjoyed a career resurgence in the last few years as a saucy senior in films like "The Proposal" and the TV show "Hot in Cleveland".

She also won an Emmy Award last year for hosting satirical sketch show "Saturday Night Live".

White scored an 86 percent favorable opinion in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, beating Oscar winners Denzel Washington, Sandra Bullock and Clint Eastwood in the survey of the 100 most popular personalities. She easily edged out Britain's Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton (5th), Oprah Winfrey (6th), and U.S. first lady Michelle Obama (15th) in the most trusted personalities ranking.

Some 44 percent of those questioned said they would be more likely to do business with a company if White endorsed it.

At the other extreme, 54 percent of the 2,012 Americans questioned for the poll said they would trust a company less if it were endorsed by Sheen, with Hilton coming in second.

Pop star Britney Spears, actor Mel Gibson and golfer Tiger Woods -- who lost several major endorsements after his 2009 sex scandal -- also fared badly.

Below is a list of the top 10 most popular personalities with their "favorable" rating by percentage of voters.

1. Betty White ...........86 pct favorable

2. Denzel Washington .....85 pct

3. Sandra Bullock ........84 pct

4. Clint Eastwood ........83 pct

5. Tom Hanks .............81 pct

6. Harrison Ford .........80 pct tie 7. Morgan Freeman ........79 pct tie 7. Kate Middleton ........79 pct

9. Will Smith ............77 pct

10. Johnny Depp ...........76 pct

Below is a list of the top 10 most unpopular personalities with their "unfavorable" rating by percentage of voters.

1. Paris Hilton ..........60 pct unfavorable

2. Charlie Sheen .........52 pct tie 3. Britney Spears ........45 pct tie 4. Kanye West ............45 pct

5. Arnold Schwarzenegger..44 pct

Ryan Reynolds leads Fox's celebrity guest-voice list (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – "Green Lantern" star Ryan Reynolds will guest star on the animated "Family Guy" playing a character who "becomes obsessed with Peter Griffin," according to a Fox announcement made Friday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.

Six more words used by Fox to describe upcoming guest voices: Ricky Gervais, Cate Blanchett, Ellen Page. In fact, the words keep on coming -- Anna Kendrick, Cee Lo Green, Patrick Stewart, Anjelica Huston, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Amy Sedaris, Kathy Griffin -- and that's just on "Family Guy."

"The Cleveland Show" will feature the returns of Kanye West, John Slattery, Fergie, will.i.am, Craig Robinson, Jamie Kennedy, Will Forte and Carl Reiner. Viewers will also hear Phylicia Rashad, Florence Henderson, Will Arnett, Darren Criss, Bruno Mars, and Questlove of the Roots.

And forget about "The Simpsons" at your peril. Guest voices on the new season include Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Cera, Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Bourdain, Aron Ralston (the man depicted in "127 Hours"), Jeremy Irons, Armie Hammer, Jane Lynch and Joan Rivers.

That's a lot of names. Frankly, we're exhausted just reading through them all. And the "who's who" list above doesn't even include Elizabeth Banks and Leslie Mann, who will appear on the new Fox animated comedy "Allen Gregory."

Daniel Radcliffe Newest Young Celebrity to Struggle with Addiction (ContributorNetwork)

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Jonathan Rhys Meyers made headlines just days ago after what many initially believed to be a suicide attempt. He has battled addiction for years, checking in and out of rehab facilities numerous times. After nearly overdosing on pills, he has entered rehab for the fifth time. According to the Huffington Post, his last stint in treatment was just this past May. The "Tudors" star has yet to make any public announcement regarding this most recent incident.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry, the youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, has a reputation for his hard-partying ways. The UK Daily Mail reported that Charles sent Harry to a treatment facility after he admitted to smoking cannabis and drinking liquor back in 2002. His stay lasted one day and seemed to serve more as a warning and punishment than anything else.

Considering that Prince Harry still makes headlines for late nights at London clubs, it seems doubtful that he has stopped drinking, but his behavior has toned down a bit over the years.

Haley Joel Osment

Actor Haley Joel Osment gained instant stardom after appearing in "The Sixth Sense" next to Bruce Willis back in 1999. Just seven years later, he was arrested for drunk driving and drug possession. He suffered a broken rib after crashing his car into a mailbox in California. According to the Associated Press, Osment was ordered by a judge to enter a treatment facility and attend 26 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Kirsten Dunst

Another celebrity who found fame at a very young age, Kirsten Dunst, found herself in rehab in 2008. She didn't discuss it publicly until 2010, avoiding the question in many interviews. According to The Huffington Post, Dunst insists that the treatment she received was for depression. She did admit that she had nights where she drank too much, but insisted that she did not have an addiction problem. She has not gotten into any trouble recently, so it appears that even if she did have a problem, the "Interview With A Vampire Star" is doing well now.

Seann William Scott

"American Pie" star Seann William Scott announced in April of this year that he successfully completed a 30-day treatment program for undisclosed personal and health problems, according to the Los Angeles Times. Scott is best known as Steve Stiffler in the three "American Pie" films. He was out of rehab in time to start filming yet another movie in the series, which will feature much of the original cast and focus on the group's 10-year high school reunion.

Celebrities who gain fame quickly at a young age are particularly vulnerable to addiction. The younger the star, the greater the odds they will end up in rehab at some point. Some enter rehab once and seem to straighten out, as in the case of Kirsten Dunst. Others, like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, face a more difficult road on the path to recovery. Hopefully Daniel Radcliffe is able to enjoy sobriety for a long time to come.

AIDS claimed celebrity victims, but stars lead fight (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – AIDS claimed a string of celebrity victims in its early days, from Rock Hudson to Freddie Mercury, but fellow stars have played a major role in fighting the killer disease over the years since.

Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor were among leading figures who used their celebrity from the start to raise awareness and funds for research into HIV, as well as reducing the stigma of what was initially seen as a "gay plague."

Retired basketball player Magic Johnson has campaigned tirelessly since announcing in 1991 that he had contracted HIV, while pop icon Michael Jackson, a friend of Taylor's, was also a strong supporter before his death in 2009.

John's "White Tie and Tiara Ball" has become an annual star-studded fixture organized with his partner David Furnish since 1999 to raise funds for his Elton Joects in 55 countries since it was founded in 1992.

"Both Elton and David are absolutely passionate about the work of the Foundation. They are on the phone weekly getting updates ... and discussing stategy," said Anne Aslett, boss of EJAF's British arm.

"Celebrities can speak personally and emotionally ... This means their influence can be enormous," she told AFP, citing the impact of others including the late Princess Diana, Whoopi Goldberg and Sharon Stone.

AIDS first came to broad public notice in 1981, when US doctors noted an unusual cluster of deaths among young homosexuals in California and New York.

In the three decades since then it has killed nearly 30 million people, and 33 million others live with it or HIV, the virus that causes AIDS by destroying immune cells, according to 2009 World Health Organization (WHO) figures.

The first major celebrity victim was Hudson, whose admission that he was suffering from HIV in the early 1980s helped raise the profile of the disease. He died in 1985, aged 59.

Flamboyant US entertainer Liberace died in 1987 followed in 1990 by Scottish "Chariots of Fire" actor Ian Charleson and New York artist Keith Haring, who was only 31 when he died.

Queen frontman Mercury died the following year, perhaps the first high-profile pop star to succumb publicly to the disease. Jacques Morali, creator of camp music icons the Village People, died the same year.

Also in 1991 Oscar-winning British director Tony Richardson died, while Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive, retired immediately and dedicated his life to fighting the deadly disease.

In 1992 "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins, Britain's Denholm Elliott and sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov all died, followed by tennis star Arthur Ashe and ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev in 1993.

The list of high profile AIDS victims has tailed off as awareness grew and more effective treatments were introduced -- at least in rich developed countries -- but celebrity campaigners kept fighting.

Screen siren Taylor, who died in March aged 79, regularly organized AIDS fund-raising benefits until her own health complications mounted.

"She saw this terrible disease, and she was angered by the fact that nobody was doing anything about it," said Kevin Frost, head of the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), co-founded by Taylor in 1985.

"She just stepped right into the breach."

Magic Johnson, 51, was one of the first to benefit from the cocktail of antiretroviral medications which emerged in the mid-1990s to keep HIV in check -- and he believes his infection and survival were meant to be.

"This happened to me for a reason, and I know it was for me to help someone else," he said in an interview in Newsweek magazine ahead of the HIV anniversary.

But he is concerned that, while gays have taken steps to protect themselves, African Americans still treat the subject as taboo -- the HIV infection rate for black women was 15 times that for white women, according to 2006 figures.

"Those numbers really break my heart... The gay community has done such a great job of getting their message across, and it?s worked, But there is still such a stigma with the virus in our community, and that prevents any progress."

Some groups who benefit from celebrity funding play down the importance of star power, saying staying power is more important.

"In the world of AIDS advocacy, Elton is seen less as a celebrity and more as one of the real leaders in the fight," said Drew Altman of the Kaiser Family Foundation, one of dozens of groups backed by Elton John's Foundation.

"When he gets involved he sticks with it when others show only temporary interest," he told AFP.

But while the British singer has made a huge difference, after three decades there is still much more to be done, stresses Aslett.

"I know Elton would say we've lost so much and we've come so far because of AIDS, we cannot give up now. The fight against AIDS is mobilizing the greatest support even seen for a health issue," she said.

"As we go into the fourth decade since HIV first appeared, we must work towards an end for this global killer."

HDNet orders open marriage, celebrity dating shows (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Mark Cuban's HDNet has ordered four new series featuring famous singles, open marriage and a multifaceted landlord for the fall.

"We are fiercely independent at HDNet, and our programing will continue to push the limits of what TV can be," said the HDNet chairman and co-founder, noting that the network can take the kind of chances that "major media companies are afraid to take."

The new offerings, all nonscripted, include "Celebridate," "Mr. Personalities Takes on the World," "The Ferris Wheel" and "The Super." They will join a schedule that already has plans to offer a live broadcast of a Jefferson Starship concert June 5 and live footage of Mixed Martial Arts fights throughout the summer.

"Celebridate" centers on Roger Lodge, who spent seven years setting up singles on "Blind Date." Now, he's bringing his match-making prowess to the famous, and infamous. Among the name dates: Dean Cain ("Superman") and Tracey Bingham ("Baywatch").

"Mr. Personalities Takes on the World" follows comedian Ben Morrison ("Punk'd") as he travels the festival circuit (think the Renaissance Fair) assuming the part of different characters.

"The Ferris Wheel" revolves around Jeremy and Kate Ferris, a "sex crazed" couple who let cameras in on its open marriage. He is a non-working millionaire; she's a barely out of college swimsuit model. Together the duo gallivant about the world.

Finally, "The Super" chronicles the daily duties of Dave Paladino, who manages more than 1,700 units. He serves as a landlord, manager, security guard, plumber, carpenter, psychologist and social worker, who witnesses everything from crack heads to bathtub births.

'DWTS' Winner Not a Blonde Celebrity; No Surprise (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and dancing partner Kym Johnson were named the winners of "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday, reports Reuters. Statistically not a shocker, as the pair danced off against two blonde celebrities in the season finale: actress Kirstie Ally and Disney star Chelsea Kane. In the 12 season history of the popular celebrity dancing show, a fair-haired (at the time) star has only once victoriously claimed the prized Mirror Ball trophy. That honor went to gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson in the show's eighth season.

Given his smoothly shaved head, Ward's black hair is only shown in his barely there facial hair -- similar to season three winner Emmitt Smith, only not as abundant. Which also means more bald men have won than blonds.

Non-Blond Celebs Rule 'DWTS'

The overwhelming amount of triumphant dark-haired celebrities to win the ballroom competition is a trend that started in the summer of 2005, when "General Hospital" actress Kelly Monaco became the first "DWTS" winner. A blonde, Stacy Keibler took third place in season two, an occurrence that wouldn't repeat again until after Johnson's win. Season 10 also featured a pale-tressed third place star.

In fact, out of 12 seasons and 36 final three competitors, only six of the celebrities have been blond. These include Alley, Kane, Johnson and Keibler, leaving only Kelly Osbourne and Erin Andrews to finish off the list. Alley won the distinction Tuesday night of becoming the first blond (albeit dyed) to win second place.

Even the 'DWTS' Judges are Brunette

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli both have brunette locks. What about head judge Len Goodman's silvery white hair? Once upon a time, the dancer enjoyed a full head of dark strands.

Even of the nine guest judges, Osbourne has been the only one to have blonde hair at the time. She appeared on the show in that capacity last season.

Blonds May Have More Fun, but Can They Dance?

Just using "Dancing with the Stars" as an example, you might start to believe that blonds just aren't as good on the dance floor. That, perhaps, the best of sultry gracefulness can only be found in the movements of the brunette or ebony-haired. That is, if you ignore an important aspect of the show: the pro dancers.

Watching the stars bust a move is novel and even sometimes beautiful, but make no mistake, the superior dancing is naturally to be found in the bodies of the professional dancers. On the "DWTS" stage, it is the blond pros who have the majority of Mirror Ball wins.

Keep in mind that out of 12 seasons, only seven dancers have been part of winning pairs. Three have been blond, dancing to victory a combined total of seven times. Tow-headed three-time champ Derek Hough leads the pros in all-time wins. His sister, Julianne Hough, and Kym Johnson, equally fair-haired, have each won twice.

Would Kirstie Alley be celebrating a win right now, instead of Hines Ward, had she only gone back to brunette? Probably not. Hines consistently impressed the judges and had the support of his fans. The "Dancing with the Stars" winner typically being dark-haired is likely coincidence. Besides, that tactic didn't pan out for Audrina Patridge last season.

Singer John Rich named `Celebrity Apprentice' (AP)

NEW YORK – Country singer John Rich went all the way on "The Celebrity Apprentice," claiming victory and $250,000 for charity.

He was up against actress Marlee Matlin on Sunday's finale of the NBC reality show.

Host Donald Trump said it was his toughest "Apprentice" ruling yet.

"I've never had to go through something like this... You've both been amazing," Trump told the pair before announcing his choice on the live portion of the program.

This season of "Celebrity Apprentice" began airing in March with 16 contestants, each competing in business-oriented tasks around Manhattan to raise money for and publicize their favorite causes. The final challenge had called for competing promotional campaigns for a brand of soda.

Rich now wins a $250,000 check for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Matlin, who won the 1987 Academy Award for best actress for "Children of a Lesser God," had been playing for the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

Shortly before the verdict was delivered, the two joined forces to perform a song, "For the Kids," which Rich sang and Matlin, who is deaf, signed evocatively.

Most of the "fired" contestants were back for the live finale. But one of them, reality-show star Richard Hatch, was conspicuously absent. In the latest chapter of his brushes with the law, he had been returned to prison for tax evasion several weeks ago.

Asked by Trump to comment on Hatch's legal woes, onetime teen idol David Cassidy, a contestant who had clashed with Hatch this season, responded with a smile, "I think he's in the right place at the right time."

Trump was presiding over "The Celebrity Apprentice" just six days after declaring he wouldn't run for the White House in 2012. For several weeks, Trump had floated the idea of a Republican presidential candidacy during a publicity-commanding blast that seemed conveniently to coincide with the current season of his TV show.

He'll be back for another round of "Celebrity Apprentice" next season, he told the world last Monday during an NBC gathering for advertisers.

Lady Gaga ousts Oprah on Forbes celebrity power list (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Flamboyant pop singer Lady Gaga ousted U.S. media mogul Oprah Winfrey to top this year's Forbes celebrity power list released on Wednesday.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, moved up four positions from last year to claim the top spot in Forbes' annual "The Celebrity 100" 2011 list that measures power by entertainment-related earnings, media visibility and social media popularity.

Forbes rated the American singer-songwriter No. 1, estimating her earnings in the past 12 months as $90 million, but also noting her 32 million Facebook fans and 10 million Twitter followers.

"Lady Gaga beat Oprah this year because of her social media power. She can use Twitter and Facebook to work the "little monsters" into a frenzy that leads to record sales and media attention. She's the best example of how celebrities will need to manage their careers in the coming years," Forbes editor Dorothy Pomerantz said.

Winfrey, who next week ends "The Oprah Winfrey Show" syndicated TV chat show after 25 years, dropped one place from last year to No. 2 earning an estimated $290 million.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, 17, was the youngest to make the list and debuted at No. 3, earning $53 million from concerts and sales from his concert movie and documentary "Never Say Never."

Coming in at No. 4 was U2, earning $195 million and Elton John, who earned $100 million.

Forbes said its earnings figures consist of pretax income between May 1, 2010, and May 1, 2011

Rounding out the top ten for 2011 was golfer Tiger Woods, earning $75 million, country singer Taylor Swift, rock band Bon Jovi, British music producer and "The X Factor" judge Simon Cowell and U.S. basketball player LeBron James.

Other big newcomers include singer Katy Perry at No 12, British director and producer Christopher Nolan at No. 47, actress Natalie Portman at No. 75.

Former "Real Housewives of New York" star Bethenny Frankel, who used her latest TV show, "Bethenny Ever After" to promote her Skinnygirl brand of drinks she sold for $100 million, landed at No. 42.

The biggest gainer from last year's list was Leonardo DiCaprio, moving up 56 spots to a ranking of 71.

Dropping out of this year's list that includes film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors and musicians, was Britney Spears, who didn't tour in 2010, as well as "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe.

The collective total earnings of the top 100 dropped this year from last year, from a collective $4.7 billion to $4.5 billion.

Donald Trump, who this week dropped out of a U.S. 2012 Republican presidential bid, benefited from the increased media attention by breaking into the top 20 at No. 17, according to Forbes.
