LOS ANGELES – Chynna Phillips forgot her routine on Monday's "Dancing With the Stars," and on Tuesday she was dismissed from the show.

"I'm disappointed," she said after learning she'd be leaving. "I'm sad, but I have to take responsibility. I messed up."

Phillips lost her place in the middle of her tango with professional partner Tony Dovolani and wasn't able to recover.

"I blanked," she said. "I knew that routine. I just blanked."

Judges gave the pair 21 points out of 30. Judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine which contestant is eliminated each week.

"I'm very grateful to have been on the show and had the opportunity," Phillips said Tuesday. "Thank you everyone who voted for me."

Her husband, Billy Baldwin, who has cheered her on from the ballroom each week, said that his wife "stumbled out of the gate (on Monday) and had her first bad week in four weeks."

Phillips was among Monday's lowest scorers. Carson Kressley, who was in last place with 20 points, and Chaz Bono, who tied with Phillips, were saved by viewer votes to dance another week.

Also returning next week to dance to 1980s hits will be Ricki Lake, J.R. Martinez, David Arquette, Nancy Grace, Rob Kardashian and Hope Solo.

Phillips is the fourth contestant eliminated so far on this season of the hit ABC show. Metta World Peace (formerly known as Ron Artest), Elisabetta Canalis and Kristin Cavallari were ousted on previous episodes.

Tuesday's results show also featured performances by Raphael Saadiq and Susan Boyle, and the return of two-time "Dancing" champ Julianne Hough. The professional dancer-turned-actress showed off some of the moves she'll be rocking when the remake of "Footloose" opens in theaters Friday. Hough and co-star Kenny Wormald danced to "I Need a Hero" before Blake Shelton offered his take on the movie's title song.

Chaz Bono says America "really needs" him on "Dancing" (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – The viewing public might be split on Chaz Bono's participation on the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars," but the way he sees it, his inclusion on the show is just what the doctor ordered for this country.

Reacting to the criticism he's faced sine the Season 13 cast was announced last week, Bono told ABC News, "It's made me realize I'm really glad I'm doing this, because America really needs to see this."

The 42-year-old only child of Cher and Sonny Bono added, "You know, it just kind of shows why for me it's important to be on the show, because so little still is known about what it means to be transgender. And there's so many just completely inaccurate stereotypes and thoughts that people have."

Bono, who was born Chastity Bono and underwent gender-reassignment surgery last year, ignited passions among "Dancing With the Stars" fans on Monday with the announcement that he'd be competing on the series. Many of the show's faithful expressed their displeasure over the choice on the series' message board.

"When I heard that Chaz Bono was going to be on, I was sick," went one typical anti-Bono tirade. "Not that I have anything personally again her/him, I just don't want that lifestyle choice continually flaunted in the media esp ABC."

One online group. OneMillionMoms.com, has even called for a boycott of the series, with its director Monica Cole, telling Inside Edition on Wednesday, "We will not be able to watch the show with Chaz on there. This is going to be very confusing for children, and should not be included in their cast."

In light of the backlash, Bono's mother, Cher, went on the counter-offensive via her Twitter account last week, blasting her son's critics as "bigots" and calling on her followers to come to his defense online.

"Can u guys check out sites & give him your support?" the "Believe singer wrote.

No matter how the audience reacts, Bono -- who's paired with pro dancer Lacey Schwimmer for the season -- has no intention of shrinking from the show, his advisor, Howard Bragman, asserts.

"No way he's going to back down," Bragman told Good Morning America. "This has really reinforced his decision to be on the show."

Nancy Grace, Chaz Bono among "Dancing" cast (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Legal commentator Nancy Grace, Cher's daughter Chaz Bono and basketball player Ron Artest are among the celebrities taking part in the new season of "Dancing with the Stars," the network behind the show said on Monday.

The show on ABC pairs celebrities with professional dancers and makes the couples compete for support from a panel of judges and viewers at home.

Grace is a tough talking legal commentator on the CNN cable spinoff HLN, who generated controversy this year for saying "the devil is dancing" after the acquittal of Casey Anthony in Florida on charges of murdering her 2 year-old daughter.

But Grace will be doing her own dance on the show, alongside a cast list that includes former talk show host Ricki Lake, Los Angeles Lakers player Ron Artest and Chaz Bono.

Chaz Bono is the only child of singers Cher and Sonny Bono who recently underwent a female-to-male sex change which was chronicled in the TV documentary "Finding Chaz".

Another child of celebrity participating this year is singer and actress Chynna Phillips, who is the daughter of the John and Michelle Phillips from 1960s group The Mamas and the Papas, ABC said.

The other celebrities putting on their dance shoes this season will include actor David Arquette, who is the former husband of Courteney Cox, and style expert Carson Kressley.

Rounding out the list is Iraq war veteran and actor J.R. Martinez; George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis; former "The Hills" cast member Kristin Cavallari; Rob Kardashian, 24, the brother of reality TV stars Kim, Kourtney and Khloe; and soccer player Hope Solo.

The "Dancing with the Stars" celebrity cast was officially announced on Monday evening during the ABC reality show "Bachelor Pad." The new season begins on September 19.

Football star Hines Ward is new `Dancing' champ (AP)

LOS ANGELES – Hines Ward added a disco-ball trophy to his Super Bowl shelf Tuesday night after he samba-ed his way to the "Dancing With the Stars" championship.

The Steelers wide receiver and former Super Bowl MVP won the title, besting actresses Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane to become the season 12 champ.

"You are the MVP of 'Dancing With the Stars' season 12," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said after Ward and professional partner Kym Johnson finished last dance. "You learned how to lead the dancing, not only in the dance, but you led your partner out of injury. You dance with heart and it shows."

Ward was chosen by viewer votes combined with judges' scores. All three couples emerged with perfect scores after dancing Tuesday night, which kept the competition tight. Ward came into the season finale tied for first place with Kane, who finished in last place when the votes were tallied. Alley finished second.

Alley was a fan favorite all season, whittling down her body as the daily dance exercise allowed her to shed 38 inches by Tuesday. She was also one of the most amusing contestants on the ballroom floor, losing her shoes during one performance and always getting through her challenges with a smile and a quip.

"I know I'm not alone when I say I love you for being you," Inaba said Tuesday after Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy finished performing. Alley wore the same dress she had worn on day one of the competition — nipped and tucked by 38 inches.

Kane, who waltzed to the theme from "Harry Potter" with professional partner Mark Ballas, was the first to be eliminated Tuesday.

Wendy Williams, Kendra Wilkinson, Sugar Ray Leonard and other celebrity contestants eliminated from the hit ABC show earlier in the season brought their sometimes stunning, sometimes wacky moves back to the ballroom for the season finale.

The show opened with an all-cast routine and the Black Eyed Peas singing their new single, "Don't Stop the Party," to an energized audience.

Besides the Peas, the Go-Go's played their classic "We Got the Beat" for a frenzied dance routine, and Josh Groban sang "You Raise Me Up" while Petra Nemcova danced. Sara Evans performed "A Little Bit Stronger" at the end of the show, before Ward was crowned champ.

Famed sports announcer Michael Buffer called Leonard and pro wrestler Chris Jericho to the dance floor for a tough-guy dance-off. Wilkinson reprised her sexy, booty-and-bosom-shaking cha-cha, then nearly fell off the judges' table when she finished. Radio personality Mike Catherwood, who was the first contestant dismissed this season, poked fun at his lack of dancing skills and stripped down to a leotard during his goofy routine.

Ralph Macchio, who dazzled judges when the show first started with his quick step, with partner Karina Smirnoff for a reprise.

Williams was the only contender who didn't take to the dance floor. She instead interviewed herself during a segment where she said Alley would "be a perfect drinking partner."

The 35-year-old Ward is the second professional football player to win the "Dancing" crown. Emmitt Smith won in 2006.

2 contestants tied in race for 'Dancing' crown (AP)

LOS ANGELES – With one dance remaining, two "Dancing With the Stars" finalists are tied for the judges' top spot.

Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward each scored 59 points out of 60 for their two dances on Monday's episode. Fellow finalist Kirstie Alley finished with 54 points.

Each will perform one final dance on Tuesday, when a new "Dancing" champ will be crowned.

"I may not have a Super Bowl ring or an Emmy, but I'm gunning for that mirrorball trophy," said Kane, a Disney Channel star. She's competing against Ward, who was named most valuable player at the Super Bowl in 2006, and Emmy-winning actress Alley for the show's coveted disco-ball prize.

Kane and Ward each earned a perfect score of 30 for their freestyle dances. Judge Bruno Tonioli said Kane's routine was "pushing the limit and advancing dance." He called Ward's halftime-themed dance "a crowd-pleasing event."

The two top competitors each collected 29 points for their judges' choice dances: Samba for her and quickstep for him. She was called an "ultra-sexy bombshell," and he was praised as an entertainer who connects with his audience.

Ward says he's already cleared a space on his shelf for the mirrorball trophy, "right by my Super Bowl trophy."

Alley earned 27 points for each of her routines: A samba and a freestyle that she performed in a black bodysuit that revealed her leaner figure.

"That dance embodies what I think you have become," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said, "which is the new poster child for life as it should be lived at 60 years old."

Alley said winning the show's big prize "would be like winning an Oscar, because it's something I haven't won before, it's something I've always really wanted, and I don't know, it's a different category."

Fans can vote for their favorites online until 11 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday.

The costume Alley wore for her "Dancing" debut had to be taken in 38 inches for her to wear it again Tuesday for the show's closing episode. Alley will reprise her opening-night dance, the cha-cha, in her original costume.

The 60-year-old actress has been noticeably shrinking week after week, but she was coy when asked after performing in a skin-tight bodysuit Monday how much weight she has lost during her two and a half months on the show.

"There will be some reveal of that at some point, but I really didn't care," she said. "As long as I kept changing and changing and changing, I really didn't care. It was like, keep whittling, whittling, whittling. And the other thing that's really more significant to me — I mean, I love the whittling, I like being skinny — I'm really strong and really agile and it gave me a new life."

Alley's costumes have gotten progressively smaller and skimpier as she has continued on the show.

"We are constantly taking in and altering Kirstie's costumes," said designer Randall Christensen. "Isn't she looking incredible?!"

The one-time "Fat Actress" wowed in a body-hugging catsuit during her freestyle dance Monday. After the performance, Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Alley that she has become "the new poster child for life as it should be lived at 60 years old."

No more barefoot dancing for tennis star Clijsters (AFP)

PARIS (AFP) – Kim Clijsters admitted on Friday that her days dancing barefoot are over after a freak injury almost ruled her out of the French Open.

Clijsters, returning to Roland Garros for the first time since 2006, is still wearing a heavy strapping on her right ankle which she injured at a cousin's wedding.

"I was dancing barefoot, not in high heels, and I landed on another girl's foot and twisted my ankle," said the 27-year-old, world number two.

"I limped off the floor and then someone else stood on my small toe. I was having a good time until then."

Despite the injury, the Belgian, who currently holds the US and Australian Open titles, insists that her fitness and movement should not be affected when the French Open starts on Sunday.

"I still have the heavy strapping on the ankle," she said. "I will keep it on until after Wimbledon and then see if I am able to play without it."

Clijsters has been a two-time runner-up at the French Open, in 2001 and 2003 losing to Jennifer Capriati and compatriot Justine Henin respectively.

Her last visit in 2006 ended in a semi-final loss to Henin while plans to play in 2010, after a brief spell of retirement where she married and started a family, were scuppered by a leg injury.

"I enjoy the challenge of clay," said Clijsters, who will start the event as one of the favourites.

"I never used to feel comfortable because of the movement aspect, but I have always enjoyed the challenge of trying to win every point and battling for every rally.

"I prefer the impact that the my strokes make on a hardcourt when eight times out of 10 you know that the ball isn't going to come back; on clay it will come back five times in every 10.

"You have to be more patient and accept that more balls will come back at you."

Fellow former world number one Maria Sharapova said she regards Clijsters as a potential champion.

"You can never count her out. It might take her a few matches to get into form. That's normal when you haven't played for a while," said the Russian, herself full of confidence after clinching the Rome International last week.

"She's a great champion, she's won the last couple of Grand Slams and is number two in the world, I believe. She's certainly the one to beat here."

Macchio: `Dancing' judges' comments were `rude' (AP)

LOS ANGELES – Ralph Macchio feels like the judges on "Dancing With the Stars" didn't give him a fair shake.

The "Karate Kid" star was kicked off the hit ABC show Tuesday, and after the credits rolled, he told reporters he "felt circled as the one couple that didn't get praise and built up like the others did."

The 49-year-old actor said that some of the comments made Monday by judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli were "rude and disrespectful." Tonioli was briefly bleeped while making his remarks, during which he also referred to Macchio's professional partner, Karina Smirnoff, as "a pussycat." Smirnoff was wearing a leopard-print cat suit for the performance.

The couple earned the lowest scores of the night.

Macchio said he "felt like the playing field wasn't level for some reason" and that he "had a feeling" he would be eliminated from the show the next day.

Football star Hines Ward and actresses Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane will compete for the mirrorball trophy next week.

Macchio said he has no idea who will be named the new "Dancing" champ.

"It's tough to predict because I would not have predicted the comments we got (Monday) night," he said.

'Idol' Castoff Pia Toscano to Sing on 'Dancing With the Stars' for Mark Ballas

After just a few weeks of dating, 'American Idol' castoff Pia Toscano and 'Dancing With the Stars' pro Mark Ballas will be taking their romance public--by appearing on 'Dancing With the Stars' together!

TMZ.com confirms that Toscano will be performing on the ABC hit show next week. And the best part? Her new boyfriend Ballas will be dancing to her song! The deal has been in the works for a while but the terms were finalized Tuesday, TMZ reports.

Toscano will also be appearing on Wednesday's live 'Idol' show for a special cast-off reunion.

It was fellow 'DWTS' contestant Chris Jericho who helped Toscano get a date with Ballas. The wrestler and 'Idol' castoff had mutual friends and it was through Jericho that she managed to exchange phone numbers with the dancing pro.

Is 'Idol' Castoff Pia Toscano Dating 'Dancing' Pro Mark Ballas?

It looks like romance is in the air between 'American Idol's' Pia Toscano and 'Dancing with the Stars' pro Mark Ballas.

TMZ is reporting that the Toscano and Ballas were seen on a dinner date at Gulfstream restaurant in Los Angeles on Friday, a day after the singer's surprise elimination from the competition.

PEOPLE is quoting a source who said that it was Toscano who "had a crush" on Ballas and she was positively "giddy" when she found out that 'Idol' and 'Dancing' were filming on adjacent soundstages at the CBS lot in Los Angeles.

It was fellow 'DWTS' contestant Chris Jericho who helped Toscano get a date with Ballas. The wrestler and 'Idol' castoff had mutual friends and it was through Jericho that she managed to exchange phone numbers with the dancing pro.

And there seems to be more good news for Toscano as she reportedly signed a record deal with Interscope Records who are keen to see the 'Idol' favorite "record an album ASAP."

Darren Aronofsky Comes to Natalie Portman's Defense in Dancing Debate

In a case of he said, she said, 'Black Swan' director Darren Aronofsky is setting the record straight when it comes to Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning performance.

After allegations from Portman's body-double that Portman was responsible for only 5 percent of the dancing in the film, Portman's fiance and the film's choreographer, Benjamin Millepied, was the first to say that the majority of the dance sequences were, in fact, Portman.

Now the film's director, Aronofsky, is rushing to his leading lady's defense in a statement he released to Fox Searchlight, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"Here is the reality," he said. "I had my editor count shots. There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that's 80% Natalie Portman ... Even so, if we were judging by time over 90% would be Natalie Portman."

There you have it. But forget her Oscar in question, the mother-to-be needs to rest easy in anticipation of her real golden trophy.

We had no doubt that Portman, who seems to be the ultimate go-getter perfectionist, put in the time to showcase her own dancing skills. Portman's future son sure has a mama to be proud of.

No one is dumb enough to believe Natalie did the dancing but more than that NO ONE REALLY CARES.

But Aronofsky didn't stop there. He went on to say, "And to be clear Natalie did dance on pointe in pointe shoes ... That is completely her without any digital magic. I am responding to this to put this to rest and to defend my actor. Natalie sweated long and hard to deliver a great physical and emotional performance."
