L.A. gallery showcases photos of rocker Nikki Sixx (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – In March of 2009, when the Annenberg Space for Photography opened in Century City in Los Angeles, the most remarked-upon guest at the gala was David LaChapelle's date, Courtney Love.

I thought of Love during an unveiling of images late last week at the Annenberg -- all taken over the last two decades by Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx -- when he put up a photo of a homeless woman holding a sign reading, "I'm Not A Bad Girl, I Just Made Bad Decisions."

Anyone wondering about the wisdom of the Annenberg's decision to feature the art of Sixx was happily surprised. Not only was his camera work fascinating and its variety a bit dazzling, but the rocker's world view as he answered questions from moderator Kristine McKenna and the audience was quite compelling.

Sixx, 51, said he'd been fascinated by the medium since the late '80s, but his interest didn't truly flower until around the time he got sober in 2001, after a long series of addictions, including a near-death by overdose, chronicled in his book "The Heroin Diaries."

"I'm very passionate about what I wrap my hands around," Sixx said. "The recovery wants me to engage; the addiction made me disengage."

What recovery gives one, he added, is that "it allows your heart to soften."

He noted that the subjects of his images range all over because "my life isn't consistent. My life is chaotic. Rock 'n' roll is chaos."

Sixx -- who also has a new book and album out, both titled "This Is Gonna Hurt" -- alluded not just to his sobriety but to his struggle to show his individuality growing up, starting with a rough upbringing that included a "sorta" homeless delinquent stage.

"I was a gnarly little kid, a fighter," he told the crowd. "I try to hold on to that edge.

"If you're Bill Gates," he added, individuality "is okay -- in the beginning he was (called) a whack job."

His pictures, many of them in brooding black-and-white -- like a delicate study of a wet street in Prague at 3 a.m. -- were often grabbed on the run as he toured. He's asked for a portrait of many a prostitute in the world's capitals, but a certain gentleness emerges in the shots of the homeless -- or even of a shy hotel maid who said she was too ugly to photograph.

"I said, 'I'm gonna take a picture and show you you're beautiful.'"

The resulting image did just that.

"I'm an emotional terrortist," Sixx said. "If I see you have pain, I'm gonna pull it out of you."

Sixx's appearance was part of the Annenberg's "Iris Nights" lecture series and is linked to the gallery's "Beauty Culture" exhibit, which runs through November 27.

Autopsy inconclusive for rocker Jani Lane (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – An official cause of death has yet to be determined for former Warrant frontman Jani Lane, with the initial autopsy providing inconclusive results Friday.

The excitable pop metal artist was found dead in a hotel room at a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, Calif., on Thursday night. He was 47.

Toxicology tests are under way, with results expected in the next two months.

Lane, whose last residence was in Redondo Beach, Calif., had struggled with addiction for years. According to TMZ, vodka and prescription pills were found at the death scene, but Vicky Oswald-Ley, Lane's sister, placed the blame for his death squarely on alcohol in a Friday interview with Radaronline: "Alcoholism is not something he chose. It's something he fought every day and it just won," she said.

"There were no drugs, that was one thing he could not tolerate, he couldn't stand them. He did not do drugs. We don't have the autopsy report back yet, but he was a heavy drinker and I can only guess that alcoholism has a lot to do with it."

Lane was arrested in 2009 for driving under the influence. In 2010, he was arrested on the same charge and spent 120 days in jail.

The rocker left Warrant numerous times, first in 1993 and then more permanently in 2004. He reunited with his old bandmates one final time, in 2008.

Lane, whose real name was John Kennedy Oswald, appeared on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club 2" in 2005.

Japanese rocker dies in Saipan (AP)

SAIPAN, Northern Marianas – Japanese rock musician Taiji Sawada, who faced charges of interfering with a flight crew, has died after being hospitalized in Saipan, authorities said. He was 45.

U.S. Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco said in a court filing requesting the dismissal of federal charges that Sawada died Sunday.

Police Commissioner Ramon Mafnas said Sawada was taken to Commonwealth Health Center's intensive care unit Thursday night but he decline to provide other details, according to a report by the Saipan Tribune.

There was no immediate word from authorities on the U.S. commonwealth on the cause of death.

Earlier Thursday, Sawada appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands on the flight interference charge.

FBI agent Mary Goff said Sawada was arrested July 11 after he became unruly with the flight crew and had to be physically restrained during a flight from Tokyo to Saipan.

Sawada played the bass in the popular heavy metal band X and had recently formed his own band.

Hudson's rep said Sunday that Hudson and fiance Matt Bellamy, singer with the British band Muse, are new parents.

Publicist Brad Cafarelli tells The Associated Press in an email that "Matthew and Kate welcomed a healthy baby boy" Saturday in Los Angeles.

The birth gives a brother to Hudson's other son, 7-year-old Ryder, whose father is Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson. And it means Hudson's mother Goldie Hawn is a grandmother again.

Hudson and Robinson divorced in 2007. She and Bellamy got engaged in April.

Rocker accused of pharmacy robbery before show (AP)

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The bass player for a rock band has been arrested and charged with robbing a Massachusetts pharmacy of prescription painkillers just hours before a show.

Attleboro police say Michael Todd, bassist for Coheed and Cambria, entered the Walgreen's pharmacy after 1 p.m. on Sunday and showed the pharmacist a note on his phone saying he had a bomb.

Police say the 30-year-old Todd, of Anaheim, Calif., then made off with six bottles of Oxycontin and fled in a cab headed to the Comcast Center in Mansfield, where his band was to open for Soundgarden that night. He was arrested at the concert hall before the show, and the band played without him.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court.

The band's website says the tour will continue.

Kate Moss marries rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) – British supermodel Kate Moss married her rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince on Friday in a small English country church, accompanied by 15 bridesmaids.

Moss, 37, and Hince, 42, a guitar player with The Kills, posed for photos outside the church in the village of Southrop in southern England, after the ceremony.

It was the first marriage for the British model, who met Hince in 2007.

Moss wore a sleeveless, full-length, white wedding dress designed by her close friend John Galliano and covered in rhinestones, according to Womens Wear Daily.

Her eight year-old daughter Lila was among the 15 bridesmaids, who were all dressed in ivory, British media reports said.

The couple are expected to throw a three-day reception and party at the model's home nearby, according to media reports.

Moss began her professional career as an ultra-slim 16 year-old and quickly became one of the best known and top-earning models in the world.

Kate Moss weds rocker in English countryside (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) – Supermodel Kate Moss married rocker Jamie Hince in a celebrity-packed ceremony on Friday, in a quiet English village with an army of photographers kept far away.

For one of the world's most-photographed women, the 37-year-old was remarkably camera-shy as she married The Kills guitarist Hince in the Cotswolds, a picturesque chain of rolling hills in southwest England.

The wedding took over the village of Southrop, with roads closed and a large police presence.

Moss wore a sleeveless ivory dress, a long veil and a floral headband, while Hince wore a grey suit.

Moss was nearly upstaged by fellow south London supermodel Naomi Campbell, who arrived just after the bride and had to rush to overtake her, according to a local resident.

The newlyweds were cheered on by locals as they left the church for pictures outside. Mario Testino, who took the engagement shots for Prince William and Catherine, was in charge of the photography.

With the Rolling Stones blaring from the sound system, the couple were driven away in a Rolls-Royce to her nearby home, where a marquee has been set up.

Guests included actors Jude Law and Sadie Frost, designer Stella McCartney, Topshop chain store boss Philip Green and Mick Jones from punk band The Clash.

Rocker Jack White and wife throw a divorce party (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – For rocker Jack White and his model wife Karen Elson, parting is such a sweet party!

The couple said they plan a celebration on Friday night in Nashville, Tennessee, in honor of their pending divorce, which they also announced on Friday.

An invitation posted online said the get-together will mark White and Elson's "6th anniversary and their upcoming divorce with a positive swing bang hum dinger."

"The party will include dancing, photos, memories and drinks with alcohol in them. This is only for close personal friends and family so please no plus ones or dead beats," the invitation said.

White and Elson, who were married in June 2005, have two children together, Scarlett and Henry Lee.

"We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow," the couple said in a statement.

They did not say whey they were splitting up.

A photo accompanying the invitation shows White in a Western-style hat and a jacket with skeletal images of bones on it, and Elson hugging him from behind.

White, who is known for singing in a plaintive voice that straddles the line between punk rock and the blues, first gained fame with drummer Meg White in Grammy-Awards winning rock duo The White Stripes.

The White Stripes broke up earlier this year, but Jack White continues to play in the band The Raconteurs.

The British-born Elson is a model-turned singer who last year released her debut album "The Ghost Who Walks."

Country rocker Carll takes message to Bonnaroo (AP)

MANCHESTER, Tenn. – Growing up a tiny blue dot in the very red political environment of suburban Houston taught Hayes Carll an important lesson: Keep politics to yourself.

"I remember when they took the class poll in fourth grade, `Are you voting for Reagan or Mondale?' I was the only kid in the school who voted for Mondale," Carll said. "So because of that you kinda build up this me-against-them attitude. So whatever beliefs I had picked up from my parents or on my own I guarded pretty viciously."

After years of writing "degenerate love songs" and others about beer, Carll is stepping out into political discourse on his latest album, "KMAG YOYO." It's a significant step in the career of one of country music's most talented songwriters. But it's one he takes in his own special way, as he'll show during two sets at Bonnaroo on Thursday and Friday.

Things aren't so much blowing in the wind in these new songs as they are hanging out and acting ambiguous. New single "Another Like You," a saucy duet with Cary Ann Hearst that features a new video with the ultimate political odd couple, James Carville and Mary Matalin, is a gloriously off-kilter call-and-response drunken love song that perfectly encapsulates fractured times.

The album's title song is a scorching psychedelic rocker with a theme of how soldiers pay the ultimate price in war — something everyone can agree on. Carll sees little black and white in the world and his songs note tough times are hard on everyone, not just those who belong to the other party.

"So I think conservatives, country guys in some way feel like I'm one of their own," Hayes said. "I wear boots and have an accent and am from Texas and all that. And lefties and liberals maybe feel the same because I'm a long-haired, ex-dope smoker who plays guitar and travels around for a living."

Getting both sides of the debate eventually began to have its effect. Over time he began to see value in the feelings and beliefs of everyone. Initially resistant to the tea party, for instance, he grew to appreciate some of the maverick movement's concepts.

"I'm not out trying to convert people one at a time," Carll said. "I'm a songwriter just trying to get a sense of the pulse of the country, and it just came. I don't know if it's because I'm older or because I pay more taxes now or because I have a son or that it was just hearing the story every night for so long that it found its way into my music more."

Carll's good friend Rhett Miller of The Old 97's thinks "KMAG YOYO" marks a songwriter at the height of his powers and is an impressive document not for what it says, but what it says about Carll.

Long considered one of Americana-leaning country's rising stars — he joked after winning breakthrough artist of the year at the Americana Music Awards last year that it came five years after he was first nominated in the category — he's taken several steps forward and suffered career-threatening setbacks since the release of his breakthrough album, 2008's "Trouble in Mind."

His work — and maybe a little bit of his shabby-chic cool — was tapped for Garrett Hedlund's country outsider character in the Gwyneth Paltrow film "Country Strong." And he won the 2008 Americana song of the year for subversively funny "She Left Me For Jesus," helping build anticipation for his next album.

Shortly after the release of "Trouble in Mind," a strep infection, combined with poor health and overwork, left him with a damaged voice that's yet to fully return.

"It was a pretty big issue where fans were not only starting to notice but were taking me to task for it," Carll said. "It was frustrating because when my career was doing its best, my talent was at an all-time low."

Miller watched Carll battle first to regain a semblance of his former sound, then work to reinvent his voice in a way that could keep him on stage.

"He'd dip down for notes, he'd climb for notes," Miller said. "You could hear him working so hard as it was recovering. It's just crazy, man, and it sounds great. I really feel something very honest and blue collar and real about the way he approaches music and I admire that a lot. So many people act like music is just magic and we're sort of a lightning rod and God shoots songs down through us or something. But it's not. It's a job."

Gregg Allman is latest rocker to announce memoir (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Gregg Allman, frontman for the legendary Allman Brothers Band, has signed with William Morrow to bring his untitled memoir to print in spring 2012.

Rock memoirs have been a hot category for publishers the last several years. The announcement comes two days after The Who guitarist Pete Townshend signed with HarperCollins (which also owns William Morrow) and on the heels of bestsellers by Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar and Keith Richards.

Allman's book was on the shortlist of great unwritten rock memoirs. William Morrow describes the project as an "unflinching" look at his life. In a statement announcing the deal, Allman said, "When I got out of high school, I thought, I'll take a year or two off and play the clubs, get this out of my system and then go to med school. More than 40 years later, I figure it's finally time to write about this crazy journey that's taken me around the world and back."

Allman founded the Allman Brothers Band in 1969 with his brother Duane, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johanson. The band's first three albums -- "The Allman Brothers Band," "Idlewild South" and "At Fillmore East" -- were huge hits that made southern rock a national sensation.

Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Ga., in October 1971. The band continued on, releasing "Eat a Peach" in 1972. But in November 1972, Berry Oakley died in a motorcycle crash not far from the site of Duane's death. The band broke up in 1976, and though it re-formed several times in the ensuing decades, nothing else matched the magic of those first few years.

Gregg Allman had a successful solo career, but his personal life dominated the headlines. He battled drug addiction and was arrested several times for it. His 1975 marriage to Cher turned him into a tabloid sensation (satirized in Doonesbury). They had one son together, Elijah Blue Allman (Allman has four other children). Allman grew sick of living in Los Angeles and tired of the way Cher courted media attention, so they split up in 1979.

Allman continued to tour both as a solo act and with versions of the Allman Brothers Band in the '80s and '90s. His biggest solo hit was 1987's "I'm No Angel," which sold more than 500,000 copies. In 2007, he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and in 2010 had a successful liver transplant.

William Morrow senior vp and director of creative development Lisa Sharkey, who acquired the book, said: "If ever there was a musician with a devoted fan base and an incredible life story to tell, Gregg Allman is the one. This memoir truly has it all."

No charges for rocker Doherty over party death (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters Life!) – British musician Pete Doherty, best known as a member of Babyshambles and The Libertines, will not face charges over the death of an actor at a party in 2006, prosecutors said Thursday.

Mark Blanco, 30, died after plunging from a balcony at a flat in Whitechapel in east London.

After examining the case in detail, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said there was insufficient evidence to charge any individual with either murder or manslaughter.

Blanco was involved in a confrontation with Doherty, his minder Johnny Jeannevol and a friend Paul Roundhill at the party shortly before his death, investigations have shown.

All three have denied any wrongdoing and an inquest and police reports have failed to establish the circumstances which led to the death.

Jeremy Hopkins, head of the CPS London Complex Casework Unit, said none of the evidence available was capable of establishing that Blanco was thrown or pushed from the balcony or that any other individual was present when he fell.

"If any further evidence does come to light, we will, of course, review our decision in accordance with our normal practices," he added in a statement.

Blanco's family has been waging a long campaign for an inquiry and has already vowed to issue private proceedings against Doherty.

British rocker Doherty faces possible prison in Germany (AFP)

BERLIN (AFP) – British rock star Pete Doherty faces a jail sentence in Germany if he fails to pay a 30,000 euro (42,400 dollar) fine for wrecking a car in 2009, a German newspaper said Friday.

A Berlin prosecutor has written to the rock star's London address giving him two weeks to pay, or face a 30-day prison term, the Berliner Zeitung reported.

It was not immediately possible to reach the prosecutor's office for confirmation.

According to the newspaper, an international arrest warrant could be issued if Doherty, 32, fails to pay the fine or turn up to serve the jail sentence.

Doherty, the Babyshambles frontman and former lover of supermodel Kate Moss, has repeatedly been in trouble with police over alleged crimes involving drugs or violence.

Rocker Bryan Adams is father of baby daughter (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Rocker Bryan Adams has become a father for the first time at the age of 51, People magazine reported on Thursday.

The "Summer of '69" musician's personal assistant gave birth to a daughter, Mirabella Bunny, on April 22, People said on its Web site. Adams' spokeswoman did not respond to messages seeking confirmation.

The mother, Alicia Grimaldi, is a long-time employee who helps run Adams' charitable efforts. She and the baby were both "well and happy," Adams was quoted as saying in the report.

Adams maintains strict secrecy about his private life, and the nature of his personal relationship with Grimaldi has not been disclosed.

Britain's Sunday Telegraph, which broke the news of his pending fatherhood in March, quoted an unidentified source at the time as saying that many of Adams' friends did not know he was in a relationship.

Grimaldi, a Briton, helped set up the Bryan Adams Foundation in 2004, three years after graduating from Cambridge University, according to Adams' Web site.

Adams, famed for such rock songs as "Summer of '69," "Cuts Like a Knife," and "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)," will launch a European tour next month.

It looks like Keira Knightley has finally moved on after splitting up with ex Rupert Friend in January.

The Mirror is reporting that the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actress has been quietly dating James Righton, co-vocalist and keyboard player of the band The Klaxons.

Knightley, 26, was introduced to Righton, 27, by mutual friend Alexa Chung four weeks ago.

A friend of Knightley is quoted saying, "She's extremely happy right now and really enjoying spending time with James. He's a real rocker and a lovely guy with it and she likes that whole scene -- lately she's become far more rock and roll and has been hanging out with a really trendy crowd."
