Chris Brown Finds A New Way To Diss Rihanna

Chris Brown reportedly cut his duet with Rihanna.

Chris Brown's recent breakup with on-again off-again girlfriend Rihanna is affecting more than just his personal life.

The 24-year-old musician was set to feature Rihanna on his next album, "X." Since the split, however, Brown has reportedly decided against including the duet with Rih.

"Just saw the working tracklist for 'X' yesterday -- Rihanna is not on there," an unnamed source told Hollywood Life. "Record execs wanted that song on there, but Chris said he would rather not and wouldn’t allow the record to be released unless they took it off."

After working with Rihanna for a track called "Nobodies Business" off of the Barbadian beauty's 2012 album "Unapologetic," Brown had been hyping fans for another duet.

"So we did 'Nobody's Business' for her album, and then I wrote a song, it's called 'Put It Up.' It's more of an R&B record," Brown told MTV in April. "I wanted to do an R&B record with Rihanna because I didn't want it to be the same four-on-the-floor, pop. At the end of the day, that's what they expect from us, so I wanted to do more of a record that nobody really heard her sing on as far as that genre."

Brown's sixth studio album, "X," will hit stores on July 16.

Look at him now: Chris Brown winning as rapper

NEW YORK (AP) — Chris Brown is known pop singer, a slick bedroom crooner and at other times, a Euro-flavored dance singer. But it's his rapping that has taken his career to new heights.

With his hit single "Look at Me Now," Brown has dominated more than just the R&B territory: The boastful track, which co-stars Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, was Billboard's No. 1 rap song of 2011 and it's nominated for best rap song and best rap performance at Sunday's Grammy Awards, where Brown's competition includes Jay-Z, Kanye West, Dr. Dre and Eminem.

The song is just another example of Brown's rapping prowess. At last year's BET Hip-Hop Awards, Brown went toe-to-toe with other hip-hop acts during one segment, and was so strong he left 50 Cent wowed.

"Chris particularly was impressive," said 50 Cent. "He rapped better than the rappers. I'm going to give it up. I'm watching the show (like), 'How did they let that happen?'"

50 Cent is not the only member of the hip-hop community impressed by Brown: "(Chris) did a mixtape that really blew my mind and I didn't know that was him rhyming," said Questlove of The Roots.

But Brown isn't the only singer who has ventured out to rhyming: Usher rapped on his 1998 hit "My Way" and Trey Songz has released rap mixtapes. Others who have spit a few bars in song include Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Monica, Erykah Badu, R. Kelly, Janelle Monae, Jill Scott, Tyrese, Chrisette Michele and Miguel.

English-based R&B singer Marsha Ambrosius said her first-ever single featured her rapping under the name Ms. Parker, and Brandy — as her alter-ego Bran' Nu — rapped on two songs from Timbaland's "Shock Value II" album, and even had plans to release a rap album before she scrapped the project.

Mary J. Blige also has a rap alter-ego: Brook Lynn. Brook Lynn first appeared on Blige's 2005 album "The Breakthrough." Blige says she's not sure other singers will find success as rappers, though.

"I don't know if it will translate to what a real hip-hop artist would do like 50 (Cent) or Jay-Z or Common or Kanye," Blige said.

But rappers have had luck with singing over the years, from Nelly to Ja Rule. West used the Auto-Tune on most of his "808s & Heartbreak" album, to mixed critical and commercial success. And Nicki Minaj's latest hit — the David Guetta song "Turn Me On" — features the animated rapper belting semi-high notes.

There are also acts like Lauryn Hill, Drake and Missy Elliott — arguably the most respected singer-rappers in the game — who are often praised for blending the two.

"I think you have to come out as a hybrid," said rapper J. Cole, who sings his own hook on the song "Work Out."

"(With) Drake, some people look at him as a rapper who sings, some people look at him as a singer who raps, but he came out that way so nobody's really right or wrong, and he can win forever in either world," Cole continued.

Brown's "Look at Me Now" spent eight and 10 weeks at the top spot on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap songs charts, respectively. Mark Pitts, the president of urban music at RCA Music Group who signed Brown to Sony at age 16, said he initially didn't want to see the singer rapping.

"It took me a minute to really appreciate ('Look at Me Now'). I didn't want to like it because I didn't want him rapping," Pitts said.

Rapping is a departure for 22-year-old Brown, who debuted on the scene in 2005 as an R&B-pop heartthrob. Pitts said that past Brown songs where a rapper is featured most likely had a rap verse from Brown first, but they were never used. Pitts, who has overseen the careers of the Notorious B.I.G., Diddy and Usher, says he once thought singers and rappers should stay in their own lanes.

But Brown helped change his perception.

"It's a different age now," Pitts said. "I'm not surprised by anything from (Chris) anymore. He's not in one category. It works for him, and not everybody can do that."

Brown's CD where "Look at Me Now" appears — "F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies)" — is nominated for best R&B album at the Grammys; his upcoming fifth disc, "Fortune," will most likely feature rapping, Pitts said. Brown has received respect from the rap community, and often appears on hip-hop tracks. But not all singers are poised to have a similar triumph.

"It's definitely difficult for an R&B singer to be accepted as a hip-hop rapper, but I know it's possible," Common said. "If you do it well, it will be accepted."

50 Cent agrees, adding that musicians are often typecast.

"In music there becomes a cut-out of what they'll accept from you and what they won't," he said. "We can take a hit Drake song and I'll deliver it and people will be like, 'Man, get this (expletive) out of here.' They'll be like, 'We want the old 50 (Cent).'"

But Pitts says he's encouraging his newer singing acts to rap.

"It doesn't really bother me (any) more. It used to bother me. But why fight it? If it sounds good, it sounds good," he said. "As long as you're not trying to be someone else, I'm cool with it."

Judge wants more info on Chris Brown neighbor spat (AP)

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer – Thu Aug 25, 7:03 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – A judge wants to know whether Chris Brown is being a good neighbor.

Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg ordered prosecutors Thursday to get more details about neighborhood complaints about the R&B singer before his next Oct. 12 court hearing. Brown is on probation for a 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna.

The judge said she had received several calls from Brown's neighbors, but said she had not spoken directly to the people. She did not seem overly concerned about the complaints, but wanted more information about them and where Brown would complete his community service.

The singer had served 581 hours of community service in Virginia as of January, but needs to complete six months' worth of community labor to complete the terms of his probation. He recently moved to West Hollywood, Calif., and his attorney Mark Geragos said Brown may ask to complete his service in California.

Geragos downplayed the neighbor dispute, saying Brown was not at fault for some of the complaints. Geragos said West Hollywood city officials have dismissed more than $15,000 in parking citations Brown racked up for parking in a handicapped space at his condominium complex because those were the spaces assigned to him.

Brown has received mostly glowing probation reports since he was sentenced for the Rihanna attack two years ago. A probation report filed Thursday noted that media reports have focused on outbursts by Brown, but states that none of the conduct has been reported to probation officials.

A source told The Associated Press in March that Brown destroyed a dressing room and broke a window with a chair after an appearance on "Good Morning America," in which co-host Robin Roberts asked the singer about the attack on Rihanna. He was never charged, and the probation report did not specifically cite the incident.

Jay-Z, Tom Hanks, Chris Rock party for Obama's 50th (Reuters)

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – When you are the leader of the free world, you can invite whomever you want to an event and they will show up.

When that event is your 50th birthday, well, that makes you even more popular.

So who did President Barack Obama invite to his 50th birthday bash? Politico provides the answer.

There were, of course, the political types like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Chair of the Federal Communications Commission Julius Genachowski and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

But then there were the celebs -- a mixture of musicians, comedians, athletes and actors.

Jay-Z came, as did Chris Rock, Tom Hanks, Charles Barkley and basketball player Grant Hill.

And what party would be complete without live music?

R&B songstress Ledisi performed in the East Room -- as did legendary pianist Herbie Hancock -- while Stevie Wonder sang a melody .

That leaves just one question -- why didn't Jay-Z and Kanye West, a native of Obama's own Chicago, perform something from their new album?

Adele, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne to perform at VMAs (AP)

NEW YORK – Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are returning to the MTV Video Music Awards stage, while Adele will make her first appearance.

The trio are the first performers announced for the Aug. 28 ceremony in Los Angeles, at the Nokia Theatre. The announcement was made Thursday.

Brown's star, once tarnished because of his attack on Rihanna, is shining bright this year, and MTV has taken note.

"He is having a moment with multiple hits this year, and he always delivers on the VMA stage," said Amy Doyle, executive vice president of music and talent at MTV, on Wednesday.

She called his 2007 performance at the VMAs one of the most memorable: "He will give an energetic, bombastic, jaw-dropping performance."

Adele, who is nominated for seven VMAs, is also scheduled to perform. Only Katy Perry has more VMA nods with nine; Adele is tied with Kanye West with her seven.

Doyle predicted Adele would "bring chills down everybody's spine, if not bring them to tears, too."

Adele has the year's best-selling album with "21," but Doyle notes that her live act hasn't been seen much: Adele was forced to reschedule some concerts earlier this year because of a throat problem.

Lil Wayne's appearance will come a day before the scheduled release of his much-anticipated new album, "Tha Carter IV." Like Brown, he has also performed before on the VMAs.

"Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honor because everyone doesn't get that opportunity," he said in statement. "Looking forward to performing on the show, and having `Tha Carter IV' drop the same week!"

Doyle said this year's show has a dynamic set that will "allow for a lot of bells and whistles," and promises that each performance will be unique. So far, no host has been announced for the typically irreverent show.

Doyle said a tribute to Amy Winehouse, who died Saturday, is a possibility.

"We don't know yet, but certainly she is top of mind, in our thoughts and in our hearts," she said.

Chris Evans brings `Captain America' to Comic-Con (AP)

SAN DIEGO – Amid throngs of fans, uniformed soldiers and dancing girls, "Captain America" star Chris Evans introduced the latest Marvel film to a Comic-Con crowd Thursday, a day ahead of its nationwide opening.

"I love this movie. I really think we've got something special here," Evans said to the packed theater audience, many wearing Captain America T-shirts (and some in the full costume, with shield). "It's everything a superhero movie should be.

"I can't always be this enthusiastic, because I don't always like my movies."

With that, fans donned their special Captain America 3-D glasses and settled in for the two-hour ride. The pre-show excitement was so great that people clapped for the Paramount logo and cheered when the Marvel imprint came on screen.

Fans gathered before dawn for a chance to see the first public showing of the anticipated Marvel movie. They were rewarded for their devotion with free posters, buttons and T-shirts that read "First to see the first Avenger."

"This is what San Diego Comic-Con is all about," said Mark Walters of Dallas, who toted a poster and a T-shirt as he attended his 17th consecutive Comic-Con. "I've been waiting for this movie my whole life. I'm a huge Captain America fan."

Fans' enthusiasm remained constant throughout the action romp, where Evans plays Steve Rogers, a good-hearted but small-statured guy who enlists in the Army and submits himself for an experimental treatment to become a super soldier. Spontaneous applause erupted when Evans first came on screen, when Stan Lee made his requisite cameo and when Samuel L. Jackson appeared as the eye-patch-wearing Nick Fury.

When the credits rolled, nobody moved. This is Comic-Con, and the fans here know that Marvel movies often end with "Easter eggs" that hint at future films.

This one was a doozy: A teaser trailer for next summer's superhero-packed "The Avengers" showed at the end of "Captain America," providing fans with a first look at the film and all its superstar superheroes in one dazzling, blink-and-you'll-miss-something preview.

"I can't wait for next year!" an elated Robert Garcia said as he left the theater. He had waited since 5 a.m. to attend the "Captain America" screening. "It was worth it just for the trailer."

Chris Brown to star in romantic comedy (AP)

NEW YORK – It would have seemed improbable two years ago, but Chris Brown is coming to a theater near you in a romantic comedy.

The singer and actor will star alongside Steve Harvey, Gabrielle Union, Oscar-nominee Taraji P. Henson and Michael Ealy in "Think Like A Man," an adaptation of Harvey's best-selling book advice book for women, "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man."

Details on the casting were confirmed Thursday by a representative for Screen Gems, which is producing the movie.

Brown's involvement in the movie is another sign of his remarkable comeback since his 2009 attack on girlfriend Rihanna, for which he pleaded guilty to assault. His album "F.A.M.E" has gone gold, and last week a record crowd of 18,000 fans showed up to see him perform on the "Today" show.

Brown has acted in other movies, including "Takers" and "Stomp the Yard."

Filming has begun in Los Angeles, and the movie is due out April 6

Chris Young hits big stage at CMA Music Fest (AP)

By CHRIS TALBOTT, AP Entertainment Writer Chris Talbott, Ap Entertainment Writer – Wed Jun 8, 10:01 am ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chris Young's been waiting 15 years for his shot at the big stage during the CMA Music Festival.

He first came to the festival as a skinny young kid after winning a pair of tickets in a singing contest. He got his career kick-started in the exhibition hall where he sold independent albums as a teenager, and he's spent the last four years performing in sight of LP Field on a smaller stage.

So when Robert Deaton, executive producer of the CMA Fest television special, told Young he'd made the cut this year, it was one of the more emotional moments of the 25-year-old singer's rising career.

"I honestly thought he was going to cry at first," Young's mother, Becky Harris, said. "He was so excited. His face got red and he said, `I'm going to finally get to play LP Field. This is the coolest thing ever.'"

Young earned his spot Saturday night through hard work and perseverance. With a deep baritone, a traditionalist's taste in material and boyish good looks, he's been steadily rising through the ranks. He's had three consecutive No. 1 singles. A fourth, "Tomorrow" from his upcoming album "Neon," out July 12, has reached the top 10 with the help of a steamy video. And he'll be the middle act on Jason Aldean's wildly popular tour later this summer.

All of that is great. But right now Young is focused on CMA Fest, which runs Thursday through Sunday in downtown Nashville.

"That's been a big deal and the fact that it's happening on the 40th birthday of CMA Music Fest makes it even more special," Young said. "This is probably the 15th year I've been at it, whether it's as a fan (or an artist). I've been going there for a long time. It's a really big deal for me."

The festival draws 50,000 to 60,000 fans each night to LP Field, the home of the Tennessee Titans. Country's biggest stars play there and the concerts are filmed for an ABC special that airs later in the summer. Before all the glitz and multimillion-dollar glamor, the festival was known as Fan Fair and the big concerts were held at the much more intimate fairgrounds grandstand.

That's where Young, then 9 or 10, first fell in love with the festival and got his first look at the mysterious world behind the songs that spilled out of his radio.

Country music stars tend to be open to the average fan and the festival has always been one of the places where artists of all levels of popularity are most accessible.

Young Chris' head was on a swivel as he waited in line for autographs from stars like Vince Gill, who he idolized, haunted the freebie tables with his sister, Dot, looking for buried treasure like a CD single of John Anderson's "Seminole Wind," and soaked up the performances of just about everyone.

"You'd get a bag of free stuff, just random stuff," Young said. "Fans, signed photos, CDs from people we'd never heard of before. We would always come back to the house with a bag of stuff, dump it and go get another bag of stuff."

Around the age of 12 or 13 Young joined a friend's band on stage at a bar-restaurant in his hometown of Murfreesboro, about 25 miles south of Nashville. He sang two songs in his professional debut.

"They gave me a free coke, something like that," Young said. "I thought that was it. It built from there. Once I started playing guitar and writing songs, it was everything I could do."

When he next returned to the festival it was with an eye toward figuring out how he could attend as a featured artist rather than a guest.

He enlisted Harris, who so believed in her son's dream that she began to take music business courses at Middle Tennessee State and eventually started a new career as a business manager. By 17 he had recorded his first independent album and wanted to join the stars in the festival's exhibition hall, hawking CDs and T-shirts.

They paid $125 for a booth and Young sold $250 in records.

"It was like, `This is awesome! I want to do this every year!'" Harris said of Young's reaction. And they did: "The next year we built light boxes and put these pictures in them and everybody started coming up and standing in line because they thought he really was somebody. The booth looked fabulous."

Each year they returned to build, stock and staff the booth with Young working right alongside his family (this is the first year he's too busy to help out). A second independent record came when he was 19. He quit college shortly after he started and took a job as a singer in a bar band in Texas and eventually caught an important break. A fan suggested he try out for a new show called "Nashville Star." He auditioned for it and eventually won the reality contest show in 2006.

That got him his deal with RCA and he's tirelessly built an audience since, releasing two albums and touring relentlessly.

Looking at photos of his teen years spent in that booth, signing autographs, taking pictures with fans, Young said he's finally reached the goal that kid in the ill-advised shirt was so starry-eyed about.

"I'm not sure the kid in that picture had any idea what he was doing when you look back," he said. "But that's six years of experience. He wanted it really bad, and I still want it really bad every day I wake up."

No, Cathy, he doesn't. You wish, but he doesn't. I've seen him with her and he is all eyes for her. He doesn't hate her dinner parties, he is very, very shy. Many artists are. The writer is reading too much into his being cranky. Do you know where he flew in from? What his day was like? They are going to last as long as they choose. He's not looking elsewhere. They're good.

...maybe this guy is more down-to-earth than I would have thought...maybe not into hobnobbing w/the celeb elite...perhaps he just wanted to don his jeans and t-shirt and drink a few beers in front of the tv...

However it would have been nicer of him to be supportive of his wife's projects. There were times I didn't want to go to yet another "rubber chicken dinner" and talk to people I couldn't have cared less about. I went to support my husband and he's done the same for me.It's the same reason parents go to those awful grade school plays their kids are in.The plays may be a mess but you do it to support your kids. It sounds like Mr. Important Rockstar has a lot to learn about being a husband.

I agree, he should have gone down to the pub, while this pompous crowd ate canapes and cooed over her book, he is a regular dude not a toff.(Brit slang) These US chicks thinks its cool to marry Brits but their Hollywood ego's do not get pampered like they do here.

oh please most of the people Gwyneth hangs with aren't luminaries of the film industry by a long shot though she does know some from people her mom has worked with. Joanne Woodward for example Gwyneth has known for 22 years and infact Gwyn shares a birthday with Joanne's midle daughter Melissa. Chris was just being condoscending in this interview thats all.

He wears all the self righteous stripes on his arm so that he can act like he's so much more in tune with the world's problems than anyone else, but he hates the attention of a celebrity dinner party. Poor baby.

I can't blame Chris. Gwyneth can be a load. She strives just a wee bit too hard.
Rule of thumb: We can't stop her. We can only hope to contain her.

Chris martin is a talentless cry baby punk anyway, coldplay sucks..they are a sorry copy of a real band "U2". Gwyneth is really cool, always liked her. thought she could've done better anyway! Continued success to you Gwyneth with or without that nothing of a husband, hopefully soon without...

My understanding is that Chris is a vegetarian why would he want to eat duck ragout? Cry me a river. Who is the bigger baby? The rock star who hates media/or the snobby rich girl who seems to always get her way. A
