S.Africa cricket captain Smith 'weds Irish singer' (AFP)

JOHANNESBURG (AFP) – South African skipper Graeme Smith married Irish singer and model Morgan Deane at a private ceremony in Cape Town, media reported on Sunday.

The Sunday Times weekly newspaper said the couple exchanged vows at an intimate ceremony at St Bernard Catholic Church in Claremont on Saturday and afterwards joined family and friends at a reception overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Both Smith, 30 and Deane, 26, took to Twitter just before the ceremony.

Deane twitted:"Today I'm getting married to the man of my dreams," while Smith tweeted: "Thanks for all your positive vibes!! Most exciting day of my life."

The couple got engaged in April when Smith flew to Ireland to pop the question after the Proteas' shock 49-run defeat to New Zealand sent them crashing out of the Cricket World Cup in March.

His move angered South African fans who accused him of dodging the fallout of the Proteas' exit when he did not return home with the team after their quarter-finals loss.

However he apologised to the fans for not returning from India with the team after the World Cup exit, saying he should have explained his reasons earlier.

The Sunday Times said Deane arrived at the church, which was decorated with arum lilies, in a black Bentley sporting a white ribbon.

She emerged wearing a white silk dress and towering white peep-toe pumps holding a bouquet of white roses.

Smith wore a navy suit and tie with a white shirt.

Friends and family of the bride flew in from Ireland for the wedding.

Chris Evans brings `Captain America' to Comic-Con (AP)

SAN DIEGO – Amid throngs of fans, uniformed soldiers and dancing girls, "Captain America" star Chris Evans introduced the latest Marvel film to a Comic-Con crowd Thursday, a day ahead of its nationwide opening.

"I love this movie. I really think we've got something special here," Evans said to the packed theater audience, many wearing Captain America T-shirts (and some in the full costume, with shield). "It's everything a superhero movie should be.

"I can't always be this enthusiastic, because I don't always like my movies."

With that, fans donned their special Captain America 3-D glasses and settled in for the two-hour ride. The pre-show excitement was so great that people clapped for the Paramount logo and cheered when the Marvel imprint came on screen.

Fans gathered before dawn for a chance to see the first public showing of the anticipated Marvel movie. They were rewarded for their devotion with free posters, buttons and T-shirts that read "First to see the first Avenger."

"This is what San Diego Comic-Con is all about," said Mark Walters of Dallas, who toted a poster and a T-shirt as he attended his 17th consecutive Comic-Con. "I've been waiting for this movie my whole life. I'm a huge Captain America fan."

Fans' enthusiasm remained constant throughout the action romp, where Evans plays Steve Rogers, a good-hearted but small-statured guy who enlists in the Army and submits himself for an experimental treatment to become a super soldier. Spontaneous applause erupted when Evans first came on screen, when Stan Lee made his requisite cameo and when Samuel L. Jackson appeared as the eye-patch-wearing Nick Fury.

When the credits rolled, nobody moved. This is Comic-Con, and the fans here know that Marvel movies often end with "Easter eggs" that hint at future films.

This one was a doozy: A teaser trailer for next summer's superhero-packed "The Avengers" showed at the end of "Captain America," providing fans with a first look at the film and all its superstar superheroes in one dazzling, blink-and-you'll-miss-something preview.

"I can't wait for next year!" an elated Robert Garcia said as he left the theater. He had waited since 5 a.m. to attend the "Captain America" screening. "It was worth it just for the trailer."

Depp ready to keep sailing as 'Pirates' Captain Jack (AFP)

CANNES, France (AFP) – Johnny Depp said Saturday there was still plenty of life in Captain Jack Sparrow and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise for future sequels after its fourth instalment premiered at Cannes.

Depp said as long as the screenplays keep coming and his kids keep laughing at his rock-and-roll swashbuckler, he has no plans to lay down his sword.

"With Captain Jack I feel like there's much more to be had, much more fun to be had," the 47-year-old US actor said.

"As long as the stories, the scripts are great and you have directors like Rob Marshall we'll be in good shape," referring to the man at the helm of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides".

"If you're surrounded by such a creative force, I think the possibilities are endless," he said. "As long as the people want to see it, I'm there."

Depp said Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who has a cameo role as Sparrow's father in the film, and the amorous French skunk of Loony Tunes cartoons Pepe Le Pew continued to provide the inspiration for Jack.

"I started out secretly testing characters on (my kids) to see how their reactions would be," he said.

"With my daughter we'd be playing Barbies and I'd try out these voices on her and she just say 'stop'," he joked. "They came to see the movie and I can tell by their reaction if I did alright. I haven't been fired by my kids."

He said that although the four "Pirates" movies had been a global box office juggernaut with $2.6 billion (1.8 billion euros) in ticket sales, studio executives had found Depp's jaunty take on the part strange at the start.

"In terms of what I was bringing to the table character-wise, let's say there wasn't a group of Disney upper echelon people who had any enthusiasm for it -- they almost subtitled me," he said.

Asked whether he was nervous about critical reaction, Depp gave a rakish smile.

"I've always feared the critics," he deadpanned. "They really scare me."

He said the cast, which includes for the first time Spanish Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, had worked hard not to lose the spark of the early films.

"We went out of our way to deliver something fresh. We sculpted it for the people with them in mind," he said. "So if they don't like it its their own fault," he joked.

Depp also revealed that he shared a trailer with rocker Richards during filming, an experience he described as "amazing".

"I may write a book about that myself one day," he said.

Prince Harry Promoted, Now Captain in Brit Army

This weekend, Prince William's best man is the one being toasted.

St. James Palace has announced that Prince Harry, after five years of service in the British army, has been promoted to the rank of captain.

The prince, 26, is in training to be an Apache helicopter pilot, according to BBC News. He began his army stint in 2005, and served in Afghanistan in 2007-'08. His deployment was halted after 10 weeks, due to fears that news leaks could threaten the safety of Harry and fellow soldiers. Prince Charles made a private visit to his son while Harry was on duty in Afghanistan.

William and Harry, then 15 and 12, lost their mother, Diana, when she was killed in a Paris car crash in 1997.

The tour of duty in Afghanistan made Harry the first member of the British royal family in 25 years to serve in a war zone, the BBC reports. And he's expressed a desire to return to the front lines, pointing out that the army's investment in him shouldn't become a frivolous waste.

"You become a very expensive asset...The training's very expensive, and they wouldn't have me doing what I'm doing," he said. "I'd just be taking up a spare place for somebody else, if they didn't have me going out on the job."

Great picture of Harry but I don't see his dad in the picture. His dad is that Irish horse trainer.

I did not serve in Helmend Province when Harry was there (I was in Kandahar). But a Friend of mine did (LTC Bill Connor). He had personal contact with Harry and found him to be engaging, professional and an officer who did his duty well. He served the mission, his soldiers and country well! Congrats Harry well deserved! One soldier to another you have my respect.

I have great respect for William and Harry. They like many have gone through a lot of public scrutiny that many haven't the slightest idea about, then losing a real humanitarian in their Mother, and they both came out very grounded and they served their Country by actually putting their lives' on the line, unlike these politicians in the U.S. who make themselves and their offspring look like a bunch of special, deserving, cowards. Hats off from one Veteran to 2 more great Soldiers!

He served in Afghanistan and I know from mutual friends (as stated above) he did so with honor and never used his status as an excuse. He did what every other young officer did without regard for his safety. For those of us who did serve he is a brother. If he were a dud in Helmend Province that word would have spread also.

Yeah we all know Prince Charles isn't Harry's real dad. The Royals are keeping it secret or in denial.

who is "we all"? Prince Harry looks exactly like Diana's side of the family. You know nothing! Such a general statement about something you do not know. Next, you'll be asking for his birth certificate to prove it, right?

Wonder if Harry got his DNA to be tested to find out who is his father because Harry don't look like Prince Charles at all.

Gee, I wonder if he had any pull. Probably has the best helicopter pilot in the RAF next to him, with his hands on the controls at all times.

Everyone knows Prince Charles is really Alfred E. Newman.
