LOS ANGELES – For Dot-Marie Jones, the Creative Arts Emmy nomination for her portrayal of coach Shannon Beiste on Fox's "Glee" just might have been sent from heaven.

"This is my 20th year in acting and it's finally that golden nugget that you dream about — that you never know if you'll find," Jones said, tearing up. The Emmy nominations were announced on her late father's birthday while she was on a flight to Australia, and she said she remembers thinking: "Dad: Come on, let this be a lucky day, you know?"

Co-star Max Adler broke the news to Jones by congratulating her with a message on Twitter.

"I couldn't even talk," Jones recalled. "I just looked at it. ... I couldn't even say anything."

This sort of open emotion may not be what one expects from the 47-year-old Jones, who was an athlete in school and competed in the 1988 Olympic games, finishing sixth in the shot put competition. Jones credits friend Shirley Eson of "American Gladiators" for getting her into acting, which led to roles in a number of productions for "Glee" producer Ryan Murphy, whose team created the part of Beiste for Jones.

At first glance, the role seemed to be a subtle spin on nasty cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, played by Emmy nominee and host Jane Lynch. But by the sixth episode of season two, it was revealed that one reason for Beiste's bitterness was that she'd never been kissed, a situation resolved at episode's end by Glee-club coach Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison).

Jones was not above kissing and telling.

"(Morrison) was just so like gentle and it was just for me and he is everybody's heartthrob, to fall into that — and just so gentle and sweet and soft and supple," she said. "And it was just like this `Mmmmm!' a kiss, but yet it was so. ... What made it so big is how underplayed it was. Dude, does that make sense? And it was like it was just this sweet, sweet moment that was so huge. It was this little moment that was giant."

Speaking of, the 6-foot-3-inch, 260-pound Jones said it was challenging to find attire for Saturday's Creative Arts Emmys red carpet. The awards will be presented at the Nokia Theatre.

One designer sent an email asking if Jones would like to come into the showroom, but then discovered her size. "Next email, `Oh, god, we're really. ... Oh, well, our showroom only has size zero to six.' I'm like, `Are you kidding me?'"

Friend Lynch came to the rescue, referring Jones to her personal designer.

Now with a Emmy nomination and recognizable worldwide thanks to "Glee," Jones said her professional goals haven't changed. "I just want to work and keep working and doing what I love, because I know in my heart of hearts that I am supposed to be doing this."

Judge tells Lohan: No more parties at house (AP)

LOS ANGELES – The house party is over for Lindsay Lohan, at least while she's on house arrest.

Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner chided Lohan on Thursday for having rooftop parties at her home while serving house arrest on a probation violation but said the actress hadn't violated any other rules.

"If you are guilty of some violation of your probation, I don't see it," Sautner said. "What you are guilty of is extremely poor judgment."

Lohan tearfully hugged her attorney, Shawn Holley, after the hearing.

Earlier, the actress told Sautner she wanted to put her court troubles behind her.

"Do you want to get on with your life, tell me," Sautner asked.

"Yes, I do," Lohan replied. It was the only time she spoke during the hearing.

The judge said Lohan didn't violate her probation by testing positive for alcohol during a recent test. The testing requirement, imposed by another judge, ended in February.

Holley said after the hearing that Lohan, 24, had undergone more scrutiny than any other defendant and has been abiding by the terms of her sentence.

"She has done nothing wrong," Holley said, noting that alcohol is not illegal.

Some of the parties at Lohan's home in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles were photographed by paparazzi.

"Don't give people a reason to hate you," Sautner told her. "Don't do stupid things that fly in the face of the court's order."

Sautner said Lohan can only have one friend over at her house at a time but can host family and business associates.

Sautner ordered Lohan to appear in court on July 21, but said she wouldn't incur any additional penalties if she abided by the terms of her probation.

Sautner is the fifth judge to handle Lohan's case since she was arrested twice in 2007. In April, Lohan was found in violation of her probation for taking a necklace without permission.

Lohan is nearing the end of what is expected to be a 35-day term on house arrest on a four-month jail sentence. Sautner made clear she didn't approve of the house arrest or Lohan's early release, but noted it was out of her control.

All of Lohan's jail stints have been shortened due to jail overcrowding.

Her house arrest has been far from uneventful — authorities went to the actress' home four days after she began her sentence on May 26 because her ankle monitor reported being out of range.

The battery in Lohan's ankle monitor was going bad, authorities determined, but also noted in a probation report that she had hosted friends the night before and one of them had spilled a drink on some of the equipment.

Lohan tells magazine house arrest lets her reflect (AP)

NEW YORK – Being under house arrest seems to have an upside for Lindsay Lohan.

The 24-year-old actress says that since being confined to her 3,000-square-foot home in Venice Beach, Calif., she's caught up on movies and TV shows, stayed out of the public eye and, most important, had time to finish decorating her house and patio.

"I probably wouldn't have done it had I not been home," Lohan says in an interview in Life & Style magazine, on newsstands Friday.

Lohan is serving house arrest on a 120-day jail sentence for violating her probation in a 2007 drunken driving case by taking a necklace without permission from a jewelry store in January. She began serving her sentence last month, and is expected to serve about 35 days.

Lohan says that while not ideal, she treasures these moments alone in her home.

"There are so many things you can do," she says. "It's a nice way to just be reading scripts and focusing on what I'm going to do next."

But Lohan says she cannot wait to resume doing things that she had taken for granted, like walking in the neighborhood, going shopping or dining out. Her recent request to leave her home to attend her brother's 16th birthday party was denied, she says, which "bummed her out."

In the interview, Lohan also addresses criticism that she got off easy with house arrest by saying it's a common punishment. She says it's a better alternative to a 12-by-8-foot jail cell at the Lynwood facility.

"It's a scary place and a place that I don't wish on anyone," she says.

Lohan says she's anxious to get started on the community service portion of her sentence.

"I want to finish that so I can work in August and September," she says.

Lohan claims that she no longer drinks, but falls short of saying she'll stay out of nightclubs.

"I don't think you should ever say never," she says.

Justin Bieber tells Japanese kids: things will get better (Reuters)

TOKYO (Reuters Life!) – Canadian pop star Justin Bieber met with Japanese children whose lives have been devastated by an earthquake, tsunami and an ongoing nuclear crisis that has forced thousands of families from their homes.

In Japan for several concerts, the 17-year-old singer spoke briefly with nearly a dozen kids, including some from Otsuchi, a northeastern town massively damaged by the March 11 tsunami.

One boy from Otsuchi read a card from the children to Bieber, thanking him for meeting with them.

"We have friends who lost their family and their homes, some have left our school. The town is covered with wreckage and it will take a long time to get back to normal," he said.

"But we will work hard for this. Please give us courage through your music."

Bieber, who had earlier told the children that they "were an inspiration," said in return that life would improve.

"Things can get better and things will get better. There are only good times to come," he said.

Bieber has already contributed to a charity album "Songs For Japan" with artists such as Lady Gaga and Bob Dylan, which has raised over $5 million for the victims of the disasters that have left nearly 25,000 people dead or missing.

Bieber performed in the western city of Osaka to a sold-out venue and next appears at Tokyo's fabled Budokan for another sold-out performance.

Sarah Ferguson on 'Oprah' Tells All on Royal Wedding Snub (ContributorNetwork)

The last Royal couple to marry in Westminster Abbey was Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew in 1986. It was a bittersweet moment for the duchess to watch the recent wedding elsewhere, instead of at the Abbey with her own two daughters. Ferguson appeared on "Oprah" Wednesday, May 11. She talked about her being snubbed from the recent Royal Wedding that took place on April 29. We hear her briefly talk about her daughter's unusual hat she wore at the wedding that looked like deer antlers. Sarah was the only guest during the hour show. Oprah Winfrey mostly talked about Sarah's new show on the OWN network.

It opened with seeing clips from Ferguson's appearance on Oprah in May 2010. This was after the undercover sting scandal where she promised a journalist $724,000 by offering access to Prince Andrew. Before the interview began Sarah wanted to clarify her daughter Beatrice was going to sell her world famous antler hat on eBay where the proceeds would go to UNICEF and other charities. In her own words Ferguson stated she was not invited to the wedding.

She went to a remote area in Thailand where there was no television or radio for her to listen to the wedding. Instead, she called someone in London who put the phone up to the TV to hear what was going on. She mainly did this to learn what her daughters and Prince Andrew were doing. One thing Sarah made clear was that she ostracized herself from the Royal Wedding. The responsibility was hers alone. It made her feel a little bit better that Diana, Prince William's mother, was not there either. They had been close friends since age 14.

Most of the interview was in promoting the six episode series of the documentary "Finding Sarah" that will premiere on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). There were a number of clips where she has therapy sessions with Dr. Phil that is quite profound. Sarah meets up with financial wizard Suze Orman dealing with her never-ending financial bankruptcy issues. Several clips show her in tears when the British press attacked her on weight gain during her marriage. There's an ironic moment she is riding in a car then tells the driver that's where I use to live, meaning Buckingham Palace.

Cosby tells Alabama grads to help tornado victims (AP)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Comedian Bill Cosby encouraged graduates of Birmingham's Miles College to help rebuild the tornado-ravaged communities in Alabama.

Cosby told the graduates Saturday to look for ways to help the survivors of the April 27 storms that killed more than 200 people across the state. He said the graduates need to "work it, rebuild it."

He told the 207-member graduating class: "This is Alabama. This is you."

Cosby spent Friday touring the damage with college president George French and other officials. He also received an honorary doctorate from the historically black college.

Tina Fey Tells GLAAD: I'd Come Out at the Super Bowl

Tina Fey knows how to get a crowd's attention, from her impersonation of Sarah Palin on 'SNL' to her role as romantically challenged Liz Lemon on '30 Rock,' and her speech at Saturday's GLAAD Media Awards was no exception.

The funny lady was honored by GLAAD for her work on the NBC hit, and despite being married to '30 Rock' producer/composer Jeff Richmond, Fey announced to the audience that she had already planned how she would come out if she ever took a liking to ladies.

Fey also told the audience how '30 Rock' was working toward creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness on network TV.
