Paris Hilton's ex takes DUI plea deal in Vegas (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Paris Hilton's ex-boyfriend was fined $585 and ordered Wednesday to stay out of trouble as he settled drug charges stemming from a Las Vegas Strip traffic stop with the celebrity socialite last year.

Cy Waits, 35, was sentenced after pleading no contest to misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs. Felony and misdemeanor drug charges were dropped.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Bill Kephart ordered Waits to attend DUI and "victim impact" classes, gave him a 30-day suspended jail sentence, and warned him not to make the same mistake twice.

"If you are arrested for another DUI during the pendency of this case, I don't care if it's alcohol or drugs, you will do six months in the Clark County jail," the judge said. He set a Nov. 23 date to review Waits' case.

Waits emerged from the courtroom with his lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, and said he was glad to have the case behind him.

The former Las Vegas nightclub manager declined to talk about his relationship with Hilton, calling it a "chapter in my life that's closed."

Waits was arrested Aug. 27, 2010, after a Las Vegas police officer reported a "vapor trail" of marijuana smoke wafting from a black Cadillac Escalade with Waits at the wheel.

Hilton, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested after police said a small bag containing 0.8 gram of cocaine fell from her Chanel purse as she reached for a tube of lip balm.

The 30-year-old celebrity heiress pleaded guilty last September to misdemeanor cocaine possession and obstruction charges. She is serving a year of probation, with a Las Vegas judge set to review her case Sept. 20.

Paris Hilton ex-beau seeks plea in Vegas drug case (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Paris Hilton's ex-boyfriend has a court date Wednesday to take a plea deal to settle criminal drug charges stemming from a Las Vegas Strip traffic stop with the celebrity socialite last year.

Cy Waits, 35, a former Las Vegas nightclub manager, didn't appear in court Monday while his lawyer, Richard Schonfeld told Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Bill Kephart that an agreement had been reached in the case.

Schonfeld didn't provide details. He said outside court he couldn't disclose terms ahead of time. Prosecutor L.J. O'Neale wasn't immediately available for comment.

Waits could face up to four years in state prison if convicted of a felony charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance, and less than a year in the Clark County jail in Las Vegas on misdemeanor marijuana possession and driving under the influence charges.

Waits was arrested Aug. 27, 2010, after a police officer reported seeing and smelling a "vapor trail" of marijuana smoke wafting from a black Cadillac Escalade with Waits at the wheel.

Vince Neil trial delayed on Vegas battery charge (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Motley Crue singer Vince Neil is getting an emergency postponement in his Las Vegas trial on misdemeanor charges stemming from a confrontation with an ex-girlfriend at a casino comedy club.

A Las Vegas judge granted the request Monday during a brief hearing. The trial was rescheduled for Nov. 7.

A lawyer for the 50-year-old rocker did not explain why he was requesting the continuance. Neil did not appear in court for the hearing.

Neil has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct charges.

He's accused of poking the chest of Las Vegas entertainment reporter Alicia Jacobs in a casino comedy club March 24, and cursing and pointing at Jacobs and two friends sitting with her.

Longoria's Vegas nightclub closes amid money woes (AP)

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas nightclub owned by "Desperate Housewives" co-star Eva Longoria is temporary closing its doors amid financial troubles.

Longoria's Beso club within the CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip closed Monday to save money.

Beso LLC bankruptcy attorney Lenard Schwartzer said Wednesday that the restaurant attached to the club will remain open because it is profitable.

He says the nightclub could eventually be renovated and reopened.

Beso LLC filed in January for bankruptcy to remain operating while reorganizing nearly $5.7 million in debt. The federal Chapter 11 filing claimed the nightspot was losing more than $76,000 per month.

Longoria owns nearly one-third of the business but is also listed as an unsecured creditor.

Singer Jenni Rivera honored with Las Vegas star (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Singer Jenni Rivera and former major league pitcher Esteban Loaiza are each getting a place on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars.

The Mexican power couple was honored at the Eastside Cannery casino in Las Vegas Friday night in a ceremony punctuated by mariachi music and glowing speeches given by friends and family. Rivera is giving a concert at the casino Saturday night to mark her 42nd birthday.

Rivera tearfully thanked her fans as she surveyed the granite stars recognizing her and her husband.

"You make me," she said.

The 200-pound granite stars were scheduled to be installed Saturday on the Las Vegas Strip outside the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino alongside stars dedicated to Dean Martin, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

The singer of hits "Contraband" and "Guilty or Innocent" hopes to win her first Grammy soon.

"One day I'll get it," she said of the celebrated music award.

Mexican boxer Fernando Vargas said Rivera deserved the recognition.

"I know the Mexican people love her a lot, as they should," he said.

Rivera was born in Long Beach, Calif., to Mexican parents. Loaiza was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and during his long career played for a variety of teams including the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The couple wed last year.

Rivera said she and Loaiza were both fans of the other before they met at one of her concerts.

"Well, he pitched and I caught it," she said with a laugh.

Las Vegas Walk of Stars spokesman Pablo Castro Zavala said Rivera's fans demanded the couple be recognized. Of the 54 stars handed out since the organization was founded more than six years ago, nearly half have gone to Latin American celebrities.

"She's got thousands of fans in Las Vegas," said Zavala.

Rivera and Loaiza are the second couple to be recognized by the Las Vegas Strip attraction. Cuban music icons Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan were given a shared star last year.

Rivera, who was encouraged to pursue a singing career by her father, recalled her early days as a performer, when she was paid $100 to do five shows. She said she became famous to show her children that persistence was the best way to respond to critics.

"If it wasn't for my children, I wouldn't have this drive to succeed," she said.

Fire sale at Vegas' once-iconic Sahara draws crowd (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Hundreds of visitors lined up outside the once-iconic Sahara hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday as it reopened for a liquidation sale to get rid of everything inside.

From $10 waste baskets, $3 decks of playing cards and $150 camel lamps, bargain-hunters searched every nook for tagged trinkets and furnishings that let them take home a piece of the iconic joint.

"We don't go to the openings — we go to the closings," said 52-year-old Marc Simon of Las Vegas, who shopped with his wife to furnish a bedroom in his house.

"Each one of my rooms in my house is a suite of a different hotel," Simon said. "Every time one of these goes down, we add on to the house."

He had spent about $400 by midday on two camel lamps, a slot machine chair and smaller items including bar mats and shot glasses.

The Sahara closed last month after 59 years, as owner SBE Entertainment decided it couldn't keep the casino open given the tourism economy in Las Vegas.

Items for sale ranged from $25 toilets to large prints of famous faces in the House of Lords restaurant, including photos of the Beatles, the Rat Pack, and a $550 print of actors Cary Grant and Ray Bolger. Booth and table sets from the restaurant cost $1,225.

The casino's poker room sign sold for $175, while a timeline look at the Sahara's history was tagged for sale at $450.

The historic resort, which opened in 1952, is remembered for attracting big celebrities to its lounges in its heyday. Don Rickles and Louis Prima were regulars, while Sonny and Cher and Judy Garland also took the stage in the casino's showroom.

In recent years, the Sahara became known for cheap blackjack and a NASCAR-themed area that included a cafe and small roller coaster.

SBE hasn't specified future plans for the property, but shoppers on Thursday worried this might be the last they would see of the Sahara and its history.

"I hate to see this go," said 59-year-old Daniel Kohls of Las Vegas. "If they're getting rid of all this, I fear that they're going to level this place."

Kohls, in line to buy three camel lamps, said he planned to spend more time walking the casino floor to pick things to buy.

"I was thinking about the chandeliers, too, but I don't know if they'll fit in my house," he said.

The sale is scheduled to continue until nothing remains, with liquidation firm National Content Liquidators charging $10 a head for entrance during the sale's first four days.

"When we're done, everything will be gone," said Don Hayes, the firm's president.

The property on the north end of the Strip is in the same neighborhood as older casinos like Circus Circus and the Riviera, as well as high-profile multibillion-dollar projects that have been stalled indefinitely, including the Fontainebleau and Echelon.

Steve Stevens, 90, who was shopping with friend Cathy Wyand to help furnish her new farmhouse in Castle Rock, Wash., said it seemed clear in recent years that the Sahara would eventually close.

"Everything changes in this town — fast," he said.

Lynyrd Skynyrd-themed eatery to open in Las Vegas (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – In the never-ending search for licensing opportunities to exploit, iconic southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd will serve as the theme of a new restaurant set to open this fall at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

A full menu for Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer has yet to revealed, but count on a generous helping of daily requests for "Freebird."

The eatery's philosophy, according to a statement, "will quite simply be to rock the house. As guests walk in they will immediately be transported to a setting reminiscent of Hell House, the ram-shackled structure in the backwoods of Jacksonville (Fla.) where the Skynyrd sound originated."

Says Craig Gilbert, one of two partners in Vegas-based Drive This! Entertainment, which came up with the concept: "Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will embrace the band's unique spirit and the lifestyle it so proudly defined."

Shania Twain to begin new Vegas show in 2012 (AP)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Shania Twain is headed to Las Vegas.

The country superstar announced a headlining residency on Wednesday. It will be at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting Dec. 1, 2012. Her new show is called "Shania: Still The One" and will feature all of her biggest hits, including "You're Still The One" and "Forever And For Always".

Twain had been out of the spotlight since the mid-2000s. Since that time she has gone through a number of personal struggles including the break-up of her marriage, losing her voice and a fear of returning to the stage. She has documented her comeback throughout her OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network show "Why Not? With Shania Twain?"

Twain is the best-selling female country artist of all time. She has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.

In 2001, Stewart was the first artist to receive the Chopard Diamond Award from the World Music Awards for sales exceeding 100 million records.

On August 24, the London-born singer/songwriter will embark on a new endeavor -- Las Vegas showman -- as he begins a two-year, 52-show residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Subtitled "The Hits," Stewart's show will focus on "the songs that made me famous," he said, adding that the rest of the show will be surprises. A 13-piece band will provide plenty of opportunities to explore his standards collections, the 40th anniversaries of two of his landmark albums, "Every Picture Tells a Story" and "Never a Dull Moment," and material that'll be part of the blues-oriented album he's working on with guitarist Jeff Beck.

Billboard: Elton John and Celine Dion designed shows that would only play in Las Vegas. What will you have that's Vegas-only?

Stewart: Nothing. It's a rock'n'roll show. There won't be any magicians or midgets, just a good rock show.

Billboard: When you performed "I Ain't Superstitious" with Jeff Beck at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles in 2009the first time the two of you were onstage together in more than 30 yearsit seemed like there was plenty of mileage left in your partnership.

Stewart: I think Jeff and I created, though we weren't aware of it at the time, a certain amount of magic in the late 1960s. We weren't always the best of friendswe weren't enemiesbut there's a tremendous amount of respect I have for him. And when you age, no matter what differences you may have had, you become mates again.

Billboard: How far along are you on the blues album you're recording together?

Stewart: It won't be strictly a blues album. It'll be 70% blues: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf tracks, a Jimmy Reed track. But we've updated them quite considerably to make them brand-new. We redid Muddy's "Tiger in Your Tank" -- he's turning in his grave. I think they all will: Little Walter, Jimmy Reed. We've thrown them on their heads, these songs. Jeff and I will have a summit meeting to decide where we're going to go. There's no rush for this album.

Billboard: Sam Cooke's songs -- "Twisting the Night Away," "Having a Party," "Bring It On Home to Me" -- always seem to make it into your sets. What does he mean to you?

Stewart: He was my first hero. When I first heard Cooke, I was working as a gravedigger or silkscreen printer making wallpaper while listening to a small transistor radio. Cooke's voice came out of it and I've been hooked ever since. When I sing a Sam Cooke song, I'm so conscious of trying to sing like him. He's the greatest. No Sam, no Rod. I believe that.

Billboard: Is there any chance of that rumored Faces reunion with Ron Wood?

Stewart: The trouble with Ronnie, we get together and we mess about, but the thing is, he is still committed to the Stones. Talking for myself and the rest of the band, we need a commitment, not just, "Well, I've got next month off." It doesn't work like that. It's not very professional. If he can give us the time, then I'll commit to that as well. Until he's finished with the Stones, whenever that will be, I can't commit to it. I'd love to. I really would love to.

Latin Grammys to return to Las Vegas for 2011 show (AP)

LAS VEGAS – The Latin Grammys are returning to Sin City.

The Latin Recording Academy announced Thursday that the awards show will once again be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the Las Vegas Strip. The 12th annual show is scheduled for Nov. 10.

Univision will continue to broadcast the show live.

Nominations will be announced Sept. 14 in Los Angeles.

The awards show has consecutively been held in Las Vegas since 2009.

Rod Stewart embarks on two-year Las Vegas residency (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – British rocker Rod Stewart has signed a two year Las Vegas residency deal which will see him return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning August 24, promoters said on Tuesday.

Tickets for the first 18 concerts, titled "Rod Stewart: The Hits," go on sale on May 15.

Promoters AEG Live said the concert will be designed to give audiences an intimate feel with no fan more than 120 feet from the stage.

Stewart will perform rock and R&B favorites including "Maggie May," "You Wear it Well," "Hot Legs," "You're in My Heart" and "Some Guys Have All the Luck."

Stewart, 66, whose eighth child was born in February, recently wrapped "The Heart & Soul Tour" with Stevie Nicks. In 2010, he embarked on a European summer tour which continued with eight concerts at the 4,300-seat Colosseum last November.

Marie Osmond remarries 1st husband in Vegas (AP)

LAS VEGAS – Marie Osmond has remarried her first husband in a private ceremony at a Mormon temple in Las Vegas.

Osmond said in a statement that the 51-year-old singer and 54-year-old Stephen Craig, a former professional basketball player wed on Wednesday. She says the day is special because it marks the birthdays of both her late mother and her late son Michael Bryan.

Osmond says it was important for both relatives to be with her and her husband on their special day.

Bryan committed suicide last year.

Osmond wore the same Ret Turner wedding dress that she wore during her first ceremony with Craig.

The couple first married in 1982 but divorced three years later. They also have a 28-year-old son, Stephen.

Britney offered 100m for Vegas gig?

That’s right, there are talks of Brit doing a set of shows in Vegas after a source told The Mirror that bosses were impressed with her Palms Casino Resort performance and want to get her on board.

Her long awaited comeback has had Britney Spears fans all a flutter and there are talks that she’s been offered a $100 million contract to perform!

It should be a happier return to Vegas than that Ross and Rachel stint she pulled back in 2004.

She’d be following in the famous footsteps of fellow Vegas performers Elton John and Cher, so she’s got a lot to live up to!
