The Grammys Will Return On...

The 2014 Grammys will take place in January.

NEW YORK — If you're a fan of the Grammy Awards, you can mark your calendar for Jan. 26, 2014, and Feb. 8, 2015.

The Recording Academy and CBS announced the dates Monday. The 2014 event will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Both shows will air live on CBS.

This year's awards show was seen by 28.4 million people, the second-largest audience for the program since 1993, according to the Nielsen Co.

Last year, 39.9 million people tuned in to see how the industry would react to Whitney Houston's death just before the awards and celebrate the coronation of its hottest star, Adele, who won six Grammys.

This year's show featured the musical return of Justin Timberlake, collaborations honoring Bob Marley and Levon Helm, and performances by the majority of stars up for major awards.

The Grammy Awards are billed as "music's biggest night."

"I spend sleepless nights trying to figure it all out," she said. "I haven't been able to put all the pieces together, but I think there were some bigger things at play... I'm gonna talk about a lot of it later."

"On the show?" Billy asked.

"No, just in life," she continued, adding that her emotions surrounding the tragic situation can come up at any time. "Sometimes I'm just curling my hair and I start to ball. It just comes out of nowhere. I'm just keeping myself busy to avoid feeling a lot of it... Sometimes you just break down and cry."

Taylor, who told Billy and Kit that daughter Kennedy is her "focus" at the moment, said dating is not on her radar.

"I'm not ready, I just need to focus on me and Kennedy and my friends," she explained. "I'm just trying to get strong as a woman."

In addition to "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," which airs Monday's on Bravo at 9 PM, Taylor is hosting a Bravo/Ciroc Vodka-sponsored New Year's Eve event in Chicago. Hugh Jackman to return to Broadway with old songs (AP)

NEW YORK – The title says it all — "Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway."

The Tony Award-winner plans to bring his one-man show to the Broadhurst Theatre on 44th Street from Oct. 25 to Jan. 1.

Jackman will be accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra and will perform his favorite musical numbers. He's already fine-tuned the show in San Francisco and Toronto.

Jackman was in Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" at the National Theatre in London and made his Broadway debut portraying the 1970s singer-songwriter Peter Allen in "The Boy From Oz," for which he received the 2004 Tony.

The actor, who plays Wolverine in the "X-Men" movie franchise, was last on Broadway in 2009 with Daniel Craig in "A Steady Rain."

Jimmy Fallon to return to "SNL" as host (Reuters)

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon will return to "Saturday Night Live" to host the show December 17 with musical guest Michael Buble.

"I've never forgotten where I came from. That's why I'm so incredibly honored to be hosting the Saturday Night Times program December 17th on HGTV," joked the "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" talk show host.

Fallon, a six-year "SNL" veteran who began hosting "Late Night" in 2009, also hosted last year's 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Buble is returning to the SNL stage for his second appearance as musical guest. He appeared before with Jon Hamm, starring in an ad for "Hamm & Buble," a new restaurant offering pork and champagne.

Producer says Jennifer Lopez will return to 'Idol' (AP)

NEW YORK – An executive producer of the hit musical reality TV show "American Idol" says celebrity judge Jennifer Lopez will return for another season. Lopez hasn't said anything.

But executive producer Nigel Lythgoe (LITH'-goh) was on the "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest" program on Wednesday morning and made the announcement. He acknowledged it wasn't official. But he added he was "delighted to say that all three judges" and the show's "brilliant host" are back for the next season.

Seacrest is the show's host. Singer-actress Lopez debuted as a judge this past season. The other judges are Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler and record producer Randy Jackson.

"American Idol" is due to return to Fox television in January for its 11th season.

Joe Paterno released from hospital, planning return to work (Reuters)

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) – Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was released on Tuesday from a hospital where he was taken to be treated for injuries suffered in an on-field collision with a player over the weekend, the university said.

The 84-year-old Paterno's right arm and hip were injured when he was blindsided by a player during a practice on Sunday, Penn State said in a statement.

Paterno was able to walk away after the incident, but he was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for tests, the university said.

He was released from the hospital late on Tuesday morning, Penn State said.

It said no surgery had been needed but provided no further details on his condition.

"It's time for everyone to turn the attention to the team," Paterno said in the statement. "We have a lot of hard work ahead in order to be as good as we think we can be."

The university said Paterno had worked on Tuesday's practice plans and was planning to attend a practice on Wednesday.

With 401 victories, Paterno has won more games than any other coach in college football history. He is scheduled to begin his 46th season as coach of the Nittany Lions on September 3, when the team is slated to play Indiana State.

Charlie Sheen to return in new sitcom (AP)

NEW YORK – Former "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen is planning a return to series television in "Anger Management," a new sitcom based on the 2003 film of the same name.

No network is attached to the series, which will be produced by Lionsgate Television and distributed by a subsidiary, Debmar-Mercury, the company announced Monday.

No co-stars or production start date were disclosed.

Sheen will retain a "significant ownership stake" in the series, said Lionsgate.

In the film, which starred Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, a mild-mannered man is ordered to attend group anger-management sessions led by a therapist who needs therapy himself.

Rapper Ja Rule sentenced in tax return case (AP)

NEWARK, N.J. – Rapper and actor Ja Rule was sentenced Monday to more than two years in federal prison for failing to file income tax returns, and said a combination of youthful inexperience, bad advice and an inability to manage fame and fortune lead to his financial troubles.

"I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal," he said, minutes before being sentenced in a New Jersey federal court. "I was a young man who made a lot of money — I'm getting a little choked up — I didn't know how to deal with these finances, and I didn't have people to guide me, so I made mistakes."

The multiplatinum-selling artist, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, admitted in March that he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million that he earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in Saddle River.

Ja Rule was sentenced in New York City last month to up to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal weapon possession. The case stemmed from a gun found in his car in 2007.

U.S. Magistrate Patty Shwartz in Newark ruled that the majority of his 28-month federal sentence could be served at the same time as New York state prison sentence.

Depending on his release date for his New York sentence, he could serve from four to 12 months of the federal sentence. The federal time will be served at the Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate New York, where he is serving the state sentence.

He has also been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.

Wearing a bright yellow prison jumpsuit and handcuffed at the wrists, Ja Rule turned to look at his wife, who was seated in the courtroom, after the sentence was read. She declined to comment after the hearing, saying only that it was a stressful time.

Ja Rule's attorney, Stacy Richman, said he was saddened by the sentence, as he wanted to be reunited with his family and get back to work in order to be able to pay his taxes.

Schwarzenegger to return to acting in 'Last Stand' (AP)

LOS ANGELES – Arnold Schwarzenegger said he'd be back.

A spokesman for the former governor says Schwarzenegger will return to acting with a role in the Lionsgate film "Last Stand." The role represents Schwarzenegger's first major movie role since 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." He made a cameo appearance in last summer's "The Expendables."

Spokesman Daniel Ketchell confirmed Tuesday that Schwarzenegger will appear in the Western flick but did not elaborate. Lionsgate declined comment Tuesday.

Schwarzenegger said in May that he was putting his acting projects on hold after disclosing that he fathered a child with a family housekeeper and splitting with wife Maria Shriver.

William and Catherine return home after royal tour (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) – Prince William and his new wife Catherine arrived back in Britain on Monday after a 12-day north American tour during which they were greeted as rock stars, a palace spokeswoman said.

"They have landed in London, that was this morning," a spokeswoman for St James's Palace, the royal couple's official residence in London, told AFP.

William and Catherine were feted from Canada's far north to the Californian sun of the US west coast as they made their first official overseas trip since marrying in Westminster Abbey on April 29.

Charlie Sheen eyes TV return in "Anger Management" (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) – Charlie Sheen hopes to return to TV in a show based on the 2003 Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson comedy "Anger Management" in which he would play a variation of Nicholson's character, TheWrap has confirmed.

Joe Roth's Revolution Studios, which produced the film, is in negotiations with Lionsgate Television on the project, a person close to the talks told TheWrap. No talks are yet underway with prospective networks or producers.

Sheen would play a counselor who helps patients deal with anger management in potentially infuriating ways.

He told TMZ, which first reported details of the project, "I'm gonna be involved in every aspect of it." He also divulged Roth's involvement and that the show would be an adaptation of a Roth-produced film with the initials "A.M."

Lionsgate declined comment.

The show would be Sheen's first full-time TV project since his firing from "Two and a Half Men," the CBS hit that made him the highest-paid actor on television at about $1.8 million per episode. Sheen was fired in March after a barrage of media interviews in which he talked about past drug use and repeatedly insulted show runner Chuck Lorre.

A Comedy Central roast of Sheen will air on Monday, September 19, the same night "Two and a Half Men" will return to CBS with Sheen's replacement, Ashton Kutcher.

"Voice" coaches to return to welcome NBC TV hit (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Singers Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will return for a second season of "The Voice," which is ailing network NBC's most successful new show in years.

NBC said on Thursday that all four "coaches," who help the contestants hone their skills in the music talent contest, would take part in a second season, but the network did not say exactly when the new set of shows would begin.

Some industry watchers speculate that NBC may try to challenge Fox's juggernaut "American Idol" when it returns to airwaves in the winter of 2012.

"Our fantastic coaches were integral to the tremendous success of 'The Voice' this year and we are thrilled that they are all returning," said Paul Telegdy, head of alternative programing at NBC. "We look forward to building season two and making 'The Voice' an even greater experience for fans."

NBC's announcement came a day after 10.8 million Americans tuned in to see soulful singer Javier Colon win the contest, a $100,000 prize and a recording contract.

The contest brings a fresh twist to the plethora of TV talent searches by having the four celebrities mentor contestants, sing live with them, and occasionally perform together as a quartet. It has almost doubled viewership at NBC in its time period, compared to a year ago.

Wednesday's two-hour finale also gave NBC its highest non-sports rating among the 18-49 age group most coveted by advertisers since January 2008, the network said.

In addition, it has also boosted the commercial fortunes of singers Aguilera and Green, country star Shelton and Maroon 5 frontman Levine.

All four currently have tracks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts, while Colon and runner-up Dia Frampton were top of the iTunes singles charts on Thursday.

"The Voice" came too late to rescue NBC from bottom place among the leading four U.S. networks for the official 2010-11 TV season that ended in May.

But the network has high hopes for 2012. "The Voice" will get a major showcase in February immediately after the Super Bowl -- the biggest sports and TV event of the year.

NBC on Thursday declined to specify when "The Voice" will return, other than to say it will resume in "mid-season" which could mean roughly anytime in the first few months of 2012.

That leaves the door open for a slot any time between January and May, and a possible direct challenge to "American Idol" which drew more than 29 million viewers for its 2011 finale and remains the most popular show in the United States.

Sarah Ferguson films return from "emotional bankruptcy" (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A year after hitting rock bottom in a royal favors scandal, the disgraced former daughter-in-law of Britain's Queen Elizabeth says she is now debt-free and positive about the future.

But it was a grueling struggle back to emotional and financial health for Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, judging by a candid six-part documentary making its debut on U.S. television on Sunday.

"Finding Sarah", on Oprah Winfrey's cable channel OWN, follows the ex-wife of Prince Andrew in a search for her own self-esteem as she seeks to rebuild her life following repeated acts of what she calls "self-sabotage."

"Dear diary," Ferguson begins. "What have I done with my life? How did I get it so wrong?...After 25 years in public life, I have lost who I am and it torments me."

Ferguson, 51, embarked on the documentary after being caught in a British tabloid newspaper sting in May 2010 in which she offered to sell access to Prince Andrew for $40,000.

It was the ultimate fall from grace for the exuberant, flame-haired duchess. Hailed as a breath of fresh air when she married the Queen's second son in 1986, she was later dubbed the "Duchess of Pork" by British tabloids.

The answers to her latest quest come just as harshly in "Finding Sarah." American TV advice guru Dr. Phil McGraw tells a tearful Ferguson that she is "emotionally bankrupt," and diagnoses her as being addicted to the approval of others.

Financial self-help expert Suze Orman tells her she is "broken inside," and urges her to become financially independent from Prince Andrew. The couple divorced in 1996 but Andrew later provided Ferguson with a free home in England.

Ferguson also visits a horse whisperer, a shaman in the Arizona desert, U.S. life coach Martha Beck, and embarks on a

26-mile trek through Canada's Arctic region in a test of her physical and mental stamina.

"To have the ability to go and see Dr. Phil or Suze Orman or Martha Beck...was an extraordinary honor for me," Ferguson told Reuters in an interview this week.

"By filming it, I hope that people watching will maybe relate to the feelings that I have felt, and see how Dr. Phil and Suze Orman and others give you the tools to be able to change your life," she added.

Daughters Princess Beatrice, 22, and Eugenie, 21, also appear briefly in the series, saying they hope viewers will see Ferguson's qualities as a loving mother.

"They are old enough to make their own decisions," Ferguson said of the decision to include them.

But the person who helped her the most in the past year was talk show host Winfrey herself.

"She is definitely the most incredible, iconic, fabulous lady...She has really opened my eyes and embraced me, and it has been extraordinary the way she and the OWN network have supported me," Ferguson said.

Ferguson says in the documentary that she was in desperate financial straits even before the May 2010 newspaper sting. Afterward, she lost most of her celebrity endorsements and business deals.

But she told Reuters she has eight new children's books coming out in the next year and continues to work on her charities. She has also written a memoir, "Finding Sarah," to be published at the end of June.

"My financial situation is under control now, and is being handled well, and we are looking forward to a very good future. And I'm debt free," she said.

Ferguson seems to have accepted that she will likely remain outside the bosom of the royal family -- she was not invited to the April wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

And she is resigned to the possibility of more barbs from the British media, saying "They have written lots of things in 22 years, and they will continue to write whatever they wish."

But she does appear to have found some inner peace.

"I think I am a work in progress. I think I have learned some very good tools, and I am very excited and positive and I look forward to practicing what they have taught me.

"I will continue to write my children's books and do my charity work and be a first rate mother to my beautiful children, and a great best friend to my ex-husband," she said.

A Minute With: Kara DioGuardi about her return to TV (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) – As a former "American Idol" judge, singer, songwriter and producer, Kara DioGuardi, made her mark offering no-nonsense feedback to contestants hoping for stardom on the popular singing talent contest.

Now she returns as a judge on Bravo's new show "Platinum Hit", which debuts on May 30. The series offers a glimpse into the world of emerging singer-songwriters on their journey to become the next big hit maker and offers a $100,000 cash prize and a record publishing deal.

DioGuardi spoke to Reuters about the show, songwriting and a famous 2009 bikini stunt on national television.

Q: What can viewers expect when tuning into "Platinum Hit?"

A: "The show is completely different since it's not about performing. It's about the song. And it's about the people that write that song. This is a show about finding the next great songwriting talent and looking into the process of songwriting, which I think is going to be very interesting."

Q: When you were on 'American Idol' there was a lot of chatter about you. Were you surprised at the fan's reaction to you joining the show?

A: "Not really, because I think they didn't quite understand my role. Some thought I was there to take over Paula's role and they didn't understand that I was in the music business. When I first got the job, I said, 'Why do you need a fourth judge?' It was completely puzzling to me. I can only imagine what it was like for the American people."

Q: Do you prefer collaborating with other songwriters or writing solo?

A: "I really don't have a preference. I kind of love it all. I get something different from each session I walk into. Sometimes it's great to work with an artist that has a very specific vision. I really enjoyed working with Pink, when I co-wrote 'Sober.' She has a real idea about what she wants to say and how she wants to say it and I find that very refreshing."

Q: How do you strike the right balance of offering feedback to contestants without crushing their dreams?

A: "People have to get used the idea that there is a lot of rejection in the music business no matter how successful you are ... If that's what crushes your dream, then you should get out of the music business, because if you can't stand the rejection, this industry will crush you. What it's really about is how to take the feedback and learn from it and become better."

Q: How would you characterize yourself as a judge?

A: "I'm pretty tough on this show, but I'm always constructive. You may not see it always because it doesn't get into the edit. But if I am giving a critique to a contestant, I'm telling them how they can do it better, so they can learn from it."

Q: What advice do you have for those just starting out?

A: "It's a muscle, songwriting. You got to do it a lot. You have to constantly be working it out and always come from a place of truth."

Q: If you were not a singer/songwriter, what do you think you would be doing?

A: "I would be a lawyer, or run a Bed and Breakfast. I would like to be in Maine baking muffins."

Q: You stripped down to a bikini during the "American Idol" finale in 2009. What was that like?

A: "It was scary, but it showed that I kind of don't take myself so seriously. And I got to build a recording studio from it, because I was given money to use toward my charity. So I'm glad I did it."

U2 was also honored for their blockbuster "360" tour as the top touring act of 2010, while Diamond received Billboard' "Icon" award.

"I would have settled for a top 10 record," he quipped. "I don't know what it means exactly to be an icon. I've always wanted to be one and I guess now I am."

This year marks the Billboard Awards' rebirth. The Billboard Awards had been a staple since 1989, but gave out what appeared to be its last award in 2006. This year, the show was brought back.

It was held in Las Vegas, broadcast live on ABC and hosted by "The Hangover 2'" star Ken Jeong.

The Billboard Music Awards are given out to music's most popular artists. The finalists and winners are determined by their rank on the Billboard charts and their "social and streaming activity."

"This is a moment I have to soak in because it's gonna be — and it is — one of the best moments of my life," said Beyonce after getting the award from her mother, Tina Knowles. Beyonce also performed her new song, "Run the World (Girls)."

U2 was also honored for their blockbuster "360" tour as the top touring act of 2010, while Diamond received Billboard' "Icon" award.

"I would have settled for a top 10 record," he quipped. "I don't know what it means exactly to be an icon. I've always wanted to be one and I guess now I am."

This year marks the Billboard Awards' rebirth. The Billboard Awards had been a staple since 1989, but gave out what appeared to be its last award in 2006. This year, the show was brought back.

It was held in Las Vegas, broadcast live on ABC and hosted by "The Hangover 2'" star Ken Jeong.

The Billboard Music Awards are given out to music's most popular artists. The finalists and winners are determined by their rank on the Billboard charts and their "social and streaming activity."

Royal newlyweds return from Seychelles honeymoon (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) – Prince William and his new bride Catherine have returned to Britain from their private honeymoon, a spokesman said on Saturday, confirming that they had spent ten days in the Seychelles.

Reports said they had flown to the Seychelles to stay on a secluded island in the Indian Ocean archipelago but St James's Palace, which speaks for the couple, refused to confirm this until their return.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have returned to the UK from their honeymoon in the Seychelles," a spokesman for St James's Palace said in a statement.

"The couple thoroughly enjoyed their time together, and they are grateful to the Seychelles government for their assistance in making the honeymoon such a memorable and special ten days."

The honeymoon followed the couple's fairytale wedding on April 29 which was watched by an estimated one million people in the streets of London and two billion on television around the world.

William, who is second in line to the throne, took leave from his job as a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot on the island of Anglesey, northwest Wales, for his honeymoon.

Latin Grammys to return to Las Vegas for 2011 show (AP)

LAS VEGAS – The Latin Grammys are returning to Sin City.

The Latin Recording Academy announced Thursday that the awards show will once again be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the Las Vegas Strip. The 12th annual show is scheduled for Nov. 10.

Univision will continue to broadcast the show live.

Nominations will be announced Sept. 14 in Los Angeles.

The awards show has consecutively been held in Las Vegas since 2009.
