Letterman Gives New 'Daily Show' Host Some Great Tips

Next week, seven-year "Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver will take over for Jon Stewart as host of the show for three months. The only problem is, he has no idea how to interview actors.

"It's an American institution, and I just have to try not to destroy it," Oliver joked on Tuesday night's "Late Show" where he sat down with David Letterman to talk about his daunting new gig.

Luckily, Letterman had some solid advice to offer Oliver on how to talk to actors without making fun of them. Watch the video above to hear exactly what Oliver will be asking his guests when he has no idea what to ask.

Oliver takes over "The Daily Show" next Monday, June 10.

Lily and Sam, a builder, became engaged last Christmas, before marrying in June.

Nolte's love of acting gives heart to `Warrior' (AP)

By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer Sandy Cohen, Ap Entertainment Writer – Fri Sep 9, 12:46 pm ET

MALIBU, Calif. – In "Warrior," Nick Nolte plays a man looking for redemption. In real life, he's already found it.

The 70-year-old actor looks like a man at peace. He's invigorated by his girlfriend, Clytie Lane, their 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, and a passion for storytelling that hasn't waned over his 40-year career.

A little Hello Kitty suitcase and plush Smurf doll sit near the door of the home that anchors his sprawling Malibu compound, where he keeps a private water well and an acre-sized organic garden that sustains his family.

He happily picks a few onions and peppers for a visitor to take home — and a handful of raspberries and tomatoes that they eat together off the vine — as his golden retrievers Socrates and Ginger faithfully follow him across the gated property.

In "Warrior," in theaters Friday, Nolte plays Paddy Conlon, a recovering alcoholic seeking forgiveness from his two sons, whom he alienated with episodes of drunken violence. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton play the grown-up boys. They have grudges against their dad and each other, and each is training for the world's biggest mixed martial arts competition, where they become unlikely contestants for the title.

Nolte's character, who speaks volumes with his crinkled eyes, is the heart of the film.

"He's the heart and the problem!" laughs the actor, who sits on a sofa beside one of the living room's three fireplaces, occasionally puffing on a smokeless electronic cigarette. The room doubles as a drum-circle site. Half a dozen conga drums sit in the center, beside a grand piano, a stack of colorful pillows, a barrel of wooden rain sticks and a crow in a cage.

"Warrior" director Gavin O'Connor wrote the part with Nolte in mind. The two worked together for months on O'Connor's 2008 film "Pride and Glory," until Nolte pulled out three weeks before shooting began. He needed a knee replacement and couldn't continue.

"You would think a director then wouldn't want to have anything to do with you because you've walked (out) on his film, caused him a lot of agony," Nolte says. But they kept in touch — they're also neighbors in Malibu — and one day O'Connor called: "He said we're working on another piece and I'm writing you in it," Nolte says.

The writer-director called Nolte "a national treasure."

"I wanted to use him how he's best and hoped the role would remind everyone what he's capable of," O'Connor said.

And it's true — some audiences may need reminding; in recent years, Nolte has done only smaller parts and some voice work (including Bernie the gorilla in "Zookeeper").

Then there was his 2002 arrest on Pacific Coast Highway for driving under the influence of drugs. The booking photo from that arrest, showing an especially disheveled-looking Nolte, continues to circulate in cyberspace, but the actor himself has clearly moved on.

Now, he's generating early Oscar buzz as a central character in "Warrior" and has some solid projects in the pipeline, including Robert Redford's "The Company You Keep" and the Los Angeles crime story "The Gangster Squad." Plus he says he typically does one European film a year.

"For a while I was really hot with the French," he says.

After four decades on screen, half of it in independent films, Nolte says he hardly recognizes Hollywood today.

"There are so many outlets with television and cable, and in one sense that's very good, but in the other it's taken a lot away from movie houses, and they can only really afford the big films so they make the big cartoon film, which aren't unfun to make," he says, referencing some of the bigger-budget films he has coming up.

The independent film is endangered, he says. He anticipates that there will be fewer movie theaters in the future, and the only films shown will be mega-budget blockbusters — all in 3-D.

"I said to (Dreamworks Animation boss) Jeffrey (Katzenberg), `Do you have (3-D) without glasses?'" Nolte says. "And he said no. I said, `Well, I don't think it will work.' And he said, `Well, you haven't been in the game in years. It doesn't matter what you think."

But Nolte still has so much more to say, and the acting is getting easier.

"What happens is you get into this rarified area of 70 years old, your work kind of comes to you in a very unconscious way," he says. "You don't have to struggle at it as much as you did before. You don't have to really fight for it much. Your emotions are pretty prevalent to you."

Even though his calendar is full, he would love to tell Hindu stories and try to make the many Hindu characters personally familiar to him "into some form for the American public."

"It would be really fascinating," he says.

He's also mentoring future filmmakers through his production company, Kingsgate. Nolte has taught his proteges to prepare for their film careers by studying the great writers.

"A good education, you need that in this business," Nolte says. "You need literature. You need a literary background."

You also need love. Nolte's given the subject a lot of thought, and lately he's had a lot of love in his life.

He loves his work, he loves his life, and he deeply loves his family. Any free time he has he spends with his young daughter.

His eyes get all crinkly as he says, "I don't think I'd be around much longer if it wasn't (for her)."

Winehouse family gives interview to Anderson Cooper (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The family of Amy Winehouse will give their first major television interview since the British singer's death in June to American journalist Anderson Cooper for the September 12 launch of his new TV program.

Cooper, who launches his own syndicated daytime talk show next week, said in a Twitter message on Tuesday that he would be speaking with Winehouse's father Mitch, her mother, stepmother and boyfriend for the launch of "Anderson."

"I'm really looking forward to speaking with Amy Winehouse's family. They've been through so much, and her talent was so great," Cooper said on Twitter.

The singer of hits such as "Rehab" and "Back to Black" was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23 at the age of 27. Despite well-chronicled addictions to drug and alcohol, the cause of her death remains a mystery. An autopsy found no illegal substances in her body and although alcohol was present, it could not be determined if it played a role.

In the interview with Cooper, the singer's parents will discuss for the first time their daughter's long and public battle with substance abuse, the "Anderson" show said in a statement.

Mitch Winehouse said in July that Amy had beaten her drug dependency and had been happily looking forward to a future with her boyfriend, film director Reg Traviss.

Sales of Winehouse's records have soared in the weeks since her death, and she was remembered in a special segment at the MTV Video Music Awards last week.

Cooper's new talk show, to be broadcast before a live studio audience from New York, will cover pop culture, social issues and human interest stories. Cooper will also keep his job as host of nightly CNN news show "Anderson Cooper 360".

NBC's 'The Voice' gives voice to gay singers (AP)

NEW YORK – NBC's hit show "The Voice" is giving a voice to gay singers.

The singing competition wraps its first season this week with four contestants battling for the championship. Two of those finalists are gay.

Other TV talent shows such as "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent" have featured gay performers but not in an open way. For example, Adam Lambert, who won second place on "American Idol" in 2009, didn't address his sexuality until after the competition ended. He's had success as an openly gay performer, earning a Grammy nomination, a gold-selling CD and a pair of Top 40 hits.

But the presence of gay singers on "The Voice" is fresh for prime-time TV, and the singers are making a splash at a time when New York State has legalized gay marriage.

"It couldn't have come at a better time, could it?" said Beverly McClellan, a 41-year-old gravelly voiced singer from Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., whose partner has appeared backstage on the show with her.

McClellan is working with Christina Aguilera on "The Voice." Vicci Martinez, a 26-year-old energetic singer from Tacoma, Wash., is also gay and has Cee Lo Green as her mentor.

"Everybody is just evaluated based on their talent and their voice, and that has no boundaries and no boxes to put anybody in," said Audrey Morrissey, one of the show's executive producers.

Aguilera, Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine serve as coaches on the show. The four chose teams of eight after an audition process that allowed them only to hear the singer's voice but not to see them. Teams were whittled down to one contestant for each coach in the finals.

The winning singer gets a record contract with Universal Republic Records and a $100,000 prize.

McClellan and Martinez have battled multiple rounds to land in the Top 4. They both received top votes in their teams when each group was reduced from four to two contestants.

McClellan, who rocks a shaven head and multiple tattoos, won over Aguilera and Levine with her rendition of the soul song "Piece of My Heart" during the auditions round.

"I just think that it's amazing that America voted for me to stay, living as a 41-year-old lesbian with a unique look," she said. "America has come a long way."

Martinez agrees, saying that she feels like "there's a shift right now in the universe."

"People are waking up and people are being honest with themselves," she said.

Martinez, whose staggering covers of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and Florence + the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" helped make her one of the competition's front-runners, believes the show's success is shifting the state of the record business.

"The music industry is changing and 'The Voice' is going to be a big reason for that," she said.

Morrissey, whose producing credits include MTV's "Unplugged" and the Video Music Awards, doesn't think the singers' sexuality will hinder their singing careers.

"Clearly America loves them — they voted for them. I don't think they're going to have a problem at all," she said.

The other two finalists on "The Voice" are Dia Frampton, the bubbly and smooth singer working with Shelton, and Javier Colon, a powerful crooner with Levine of Maroon 5.

The winner will be crowned Wednesday (NBC, 8 p.m. EDT). The finalists will perform original tunes for the first time Tuesday night (9 p.m. EDT). The singers are getting a big boost thanks to the show's ratings — a 13.2 million viewership average, according to Nielsen Co.

Besides Martinez and McClellan, another gay singer on the show was Nakia, a bluesy performer who appeared at the auditions with his boyfriend. He was Green's second finalist, behind Martinez. And there was also Tyler Robinson, voted off early from Shelton's team.

The singers said they didn't think twice about hiding their sexualities when appearing on national television.

"I've been told from people that I should sometimes, just make people keep guessing," Martinez said. "I'm out here trying to speak truth and tell people to live their truth, and that's just ridiculous."

McClellan has released five albums independently. She got word about "The Voice" auditions from the studio where she records music. She said she had no interest in becoming a commercial singer because of industry stereotypes and standards.

"(I) never wanted (a recording contract) because I didn't want to be told what to do. But I figured at 41 I'm already set in my ways, I don't think anybody can really change me," she said.

She also said she and mentor Aguilera didn't talk about her sexuality.

"I've tried to stay out of that box 'cause I don't think my singing has anything to do with being gay," she said.

Green got backlash last week after tweeting a music critic who gave an underwhelming review of his live show. "People enjoyed last night! I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you?" he tweeted. Some people accused the singer of being homophobic, but Martinez said that's not the case.

"He apologized like so many times," she said. "He called me, texted me, tweeted me. Even a week later he's like, 'I really want you to know I'm so sorry. That was so stupid of me. It was taken totally out of context. You know that I love you.'

"I didn't take any offense to it," Martinez said.

Caramoor gives 'Pinafore' bel canto treatment (AP)

KATONAH, N.Y. – Mention "bel canto" opera and you might think of Bellini's "Norma" or Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor." But "HMS Pinafore"? Never!

What, never? Well ... hardly ever.

Because that's exactly how Will Crutchfield, director of opera at Caramoor, asked the audience to think about Gilbert and Sullivan's nautical romp as it opened the 2011 International Music Festival on Saturday night at this outdoor venue an hour north of New York City.

With Crutchfield conducting the Orchestra of St. Luke's and a cast of operatically trained voices, the evening indeed fit at least the literal translation of "bel canto," which is Italian for "beautiful singing."

It was a joy to hear this affectionate satire of the class system aboard a British war ship performed with such high musical values, from soloists to chorus to instrumentalists. And the simple but clever direction by Steven Tharp made the concert performance at the Venetian Theater more engaging than many a fully staged production.

Less persuasive, perhaps, is the case Crutchfield made for regarding "Pinafore" as a direct descendant of the "bel canto" style of Italian opera of the 18th and early 19th century, known for its emphasis on vocal technique, including trills, runs and other elaborate decorations.

True, as he points out in a program note, both collaborators were heavily influenced by these operas. Gilbert's first comic verse was a rewrite of an aria from one, and the young Sullivan transcribed piano-vocal arrangements of many of the operas for a music publisher.

Several numbers in "Pinafore," which premiered in 1878 and became the team's first smash hit, do hearken back to a bygone era. Among these are the two arias for Josephine, the captain's daughter who loves a common sailor but is wooed by the first lord of the admiralty.

Still, these efforts are not Sullivan's most inspired, sounding like slightly faded imitations. It's elsewhere in the score that his inimitable gift for melody comes most to the fore — in the captain's song ("I am the captain of the Pinafore ..."); the rollicking trio "Never mind the why or wherefore" or the intricate choral harmonizing of "A British tar."

In a uniformly strong cast, two singers stood out. Tenor Robert McPherson sang with unforced sweetness and impressive power as Ralph Rackstraw, the "common sailor" who turns out to have been nobly born. Vanessa Cariddi brought a burnished, imposing mezzo-soprano — and an alluring physical presence — to the role of Little Buttercup.

Soprano Georgia Jarman sailed through Josephine's difficult role, complete with interpolated decorations and high notes, though her diction wasn't always as crisp as that of her cast mates.

Scott Bearden used his ample baritone and good comic skills to make a memorable figure of Dick Deadeye, the eyepatch-wearing villain.

Baritone Jorell Williams was a smooth-voiced captain, and baritone Jason Plourde was a properly haughty first lord — though his youthful look made it difficult to see why Josephine would find him so repulsive.

After this delightful detour, Bel Canto at Caramoor gets back to its mainstream repertory in its second offering of the season, Rossini's "William Tell," to be performed July 9 and 15.

Hollywood's Natalie Portman gives birth to a boy (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Actress Natalie Portman, who in February won an Oscar for her lead performance in the ballet-themed thriller "Black Swan," has capped off her banner year with the birth of a son, US media reported Wednesday.

People magazine wrote that the boy was born to Portman and her fiance, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied, whom she met on the set of "Black Swan."

The baby is the first for the actress, who announced her pregnancy and her engagement back in December.

Portman, 30, who lives with Millepied in New York, is coming off a busy year in which she appeared in three films besides "Black Swan: the comedy adventure movie "Your Highness," the romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," and "Thor," a budget superhero flick.

Gaga gives heartfelt thanks at fashion award event (AP)

NEW YORK – It seems the fashion crowd, especially when fully decked out for Monday night's Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, can be pretty intimidating: CNN anchor Anderson Cooper said so, actress Naomi Watts said so, and even Lady Gaga said so.

On stage to accept her award as the year's top style icon, a soft-spoken, maybe even teary-eyed Gaga said she was nervous.

"All of you made me feel like a star before I was," she told the audience at Lincoln Center that boasted bold-faced names such as Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan and Michael Kors.

She talked about how important fashion was in her life as a pathway to self-discovery, artistry and confidence. As a teenager, she'd save her money to buy vintage Thierry Mugler from a neighborhood thrift shop, checking in with the salesman regularly to make sure her favorite pieces hadn't sold while she was raising the cash. She planned her outfits for Friday night parties as if she was going to the Oscars, she said.

"As much as this award means to me personally ... I just want you to know how much this means to young Americans," Gaga said.

But the music star and style risk-taker, wearing a corset get-up by Mugler, a label now helmed by her friend Nicola Formichetti, got her swagger back as she recalled getting the text message from Wintour that she had been picked for the prize.

She said she thought the message was from a friend named Anna and replied with a bleep-worthy response. The text back from the Vogue editor-in-chief said, "How lovely."

That led to laughter — and so did Cooper's montage of his early days as a preteen model.

Cooper, a longtime friend of CFDA president von Furstenberg, said he decided to show his photos to prove his fashion cred since he was acting as master of ceremonies. (He also is the son of late designer jeans magnate Gloria Vanderbilt and worked as a fit model for both Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, who made his tuxedo.)

"There was no way you'd be critical," he joked, "or that's what Diane said, anyway."

Watts, dressed in a metallic T-shirt-style gown by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, presented the top womenswear honor to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. But she seemed to find the awkward walk across a long stage intimidating in her high heels. "That was easy," she said as she reached the podium. "Fun doing it in a room full of supermodels."

Top models Doutzen Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio and Chanel Iman were indeed in the house, on the arms of their favorite designers. Karolina Kurkova, in a striking hooded jumpsuit made of green sequins, read the names of the winners in the Swarovski emerging-talent categories: Eddie Borgo for accessories, Robert Geller for menswear and Prabal Gurung for womenswear.

Kurkova took a moment to sing for Gaga — "I'm your biggest fan," she said — and then Gurung asked during his speech if he could pose with Gaga. "That will make me the coolest uncle," he boasted.

But it was the nod from his fellow designers as well as retailers, stylists and editors that the rest of his family would find impressive, Gurung said. "I'm just a guy from Nepal. I will call my mother and say, `It's OK. I turned out fine.'"

The two standing ovations of the night went to photographer Arthur Elgort and designer Marc Jacobs, who was there for his "half-lifetime achievement award," according to presenter Sofia Coppola.

"This achievement is born of love, passion, creativity ... and a hell of a lot of hard work," said Jacobs, who is 48.

He added, "I believe we all know and feel the greatest reward is the process itself."

Other highlights:

_Kanye West, saying he was a huge fan, handed the international design prize to Phoebe Philo of Celine. He said he's been known to go into a Celine store and try on the clothes — womenswear, no less — "knowing that would get me bashed by the hip-hop blogs."

_Michael Bastian was named best menswear designer, and Alexander Wang as accessories designer.

_Jessica Alba, showing off her baby bump in a coral-and-purple gown by von Furstenberg, gave the CFDA Founders Award to InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein.

_Kors said he always enjoys this event because he likes being surrounded with "people who have a passion for fashion."

"Tonight is about not only people who make the clothes, but also the photographers, writers and the people who wear the clothes."

Amazon's gamble gives Lady Gaga 1M in album sales (AP)

NEW YORK – Lady Gaga sold more than 1.1 million copies of her new album "Born This Way" and set a digital sales record last week — with an assist from Amazon.com.

Billboard announced Tuesday that "Born This Way" debuted at No. 1 on its Billboard 200 album chart, becoming just the 17th album to sell a million copies in its first week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991 and the top-selling digital debut.

The dance pop provocateur is just the fifth female with a an album that sold more than a million copies in the SoundScan era.

Lady Gaga's first No. 1 album sold the most copies of any debut since March 2005 when 50 Cent's "The Massacre" sold 1.14 million. The last million-selling album was Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" in November.

Amazon's attention-grabbing download price of 99 cents last Tuesday and Thursday helped drive "Born This Way" to an unprecedented 662,000 in digital sales, pushing the album to nearly three times initial estimates by Universal Music Group. Amazon sold more than 440,000 of those copies alone, but with mixed results.

The online retailer did grab the spotlight it had hoped in its battle for a larger piece of the online market, which is dominated by Apple's iTunes. But it came with an image hit when customers overwhelmed Amazon's system.

Amazon's move has been deemed controversial by some observers who say the steep loss of several dollars an album was not worth the investment. Physical outlets also were upset at the advantage given to an online retailer.

Dramatic price cuts are nothing new for Amazon, which regularly trims new and popular album prices to as low as $2.99 through its daily deal program.

Shakira gives Venezuela's Chavez signed, red guitar (Reuters)

CARACAS (Reuters) – Colombian pop star Shakira has given Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez an autographed electric guitar that is painted red, the color of the leader's socialist political movement.

The Grammy award winner and songwriter sent him the instrument after visiting the South American country in March, Chavez said on Sunday and thanked her for the gift.

"I was practicing last night, looking for the plugs. It's electric, a very modern guitar and I'm not used to it," Chavez said during a phone call to a state TV station. "I was singing some songs, old ones, a Mexican one."

Known for his informal style, Chavez often belts out Latin American folk songs during political rallies and speeches.

"How am I going to practice 'Waka-Waka' with this swollen foot?" Chavez asked when an official suggested he sing Shakira's hit song for last year's World Cup. He ended the call singing a bolero, a slow Latin American song.

Chavez is currently recovering from a knee injury and canceled visits to several countries this week. He said the injury was improving.

Hayden Panettiere gives us a Scream

She first caught our eye as the cute Cheerleader in Heroes who had to save the world, but Hayden Panettiere's latest project is set to send shivers down our spines as she is in the next installment of the Scream franchise.

According to the actress the filmmakers have had to really shake things up this time round as audiences aren’t as easily scared as they used to be.

the problem with mariah's photo is that she looks mildly retarded...that, and her husband is groping her, not protecting her...but what can you expect from these clowns?

So what's the purpose of the pictures in the first place. Shock value and tittillation for Mariah to get off on.

Wednesday 13 AprilBy Dana C.Highest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

It's not a question of beauty. She is a beautiful woman but these pictures are tacky as Hell! These are the kind of pictures you take in your bedroom just between the two of you. You know those famous mobile phone shots in your bathroom. Lol

Wednesday 13 AprilBy joanHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Do not agree with you Maile. Mariah Carey and her husband as well are both publicity seeking hounds and will stop at nothing to be in the news. Seeing her naked with that huge stomach is not the least bit appealing and why Popeater continues to push the picture is beyond me, and I do not care if it were a person that is white, black or yellow it is not necessary to flaunt it.

Wednesday 13 AprilBy willHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Shes a pig and her husband looks like he just got out of jail and moved to the ghetto.

Reply

Wednesday 13 AprilBy J Vote downVote upReport this

Agreed!!! The reason it looks so disgusting is becuase she was the size of an elephant BEFORE she got pregnant... she looks NOTHING like she did when at the hieght of her popularity - but she still thinks she's hot because nobody will tell her otherwise... LISTEN UP MS NASTY, PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON, NOBODY WANTS TO LOOK AT A NAKED ELEPHANT 20 years PAST HER PRIME...

Wednesday 13 AprilBy GiovannaHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Gross and perverted...no beauty in it.

Reply

Wednesday 13 AprilBy esp322Highest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

this is so tacky. She has a ridiculously gaseous look on her face as he is trying way too hard to capture the 'beauty' of what is supposed to be a serious sort of picture. All the print on top of it makes it look like cheap porn. While I am a fan of Mariah's talent and I think Nick has talent as well, this is the stuff people make fun of for years. They dont need the money that bad, do they?

...Demi Moore and even Janet Jackson held similar poses YEARS AGO and they were tastefully done. This is plain wrong (and ugly!)

Wednesday 13 AprilBy KS. Vote downVote upReport this

YES

Wednesday 13 AprilBy DebbieHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Big difference between Demi Moore's photo (which I really didn't care for either) and Mariah Carey's -- Demi Moore's photo didn't include a leering Bruce Willis grabbing her boobs in an explicitly sexually way above her extremely pregnant belly. That's the difference. Nothing else, so please don't suggest otherwise...

Natalie Portman Gives Up Vegan Diet

SnapPolls Comments (36)Add a comment

Monday 11 AprilBy blochucklesHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Hey I'm all for eating healthy but a vegan diet is crazy, people are omnivors. Vegan is too restricted. When your pregnant you need to eat right if you want a healthy baby!!!!

Reply

Monday 11 AprilBy PemaHigh Rank Vote downVote upReport this

vegan is the best diet if you are pregnant. even milk and eggs are pumped with hormones and antibiotics. thats not healthy for a baby.

Monday 11 AprilBy Chrissy Vote downVote upReport this

Actually, I just read a news story last week about a baby who died and it was being blamed on the mother's vegan diet. It said that the baby did not get the nutrients that it needed from it's mothers breast milk and eventually got sick and died.

Monday 11 AprilBy RMIHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

My ex was a big supporter of that lifestyle. Like it or not we are omnivores and that is science not belief. Who am I to try and change biology.

Reply

Monday 11 AprilBy commbotHigh Rank Vote downVote upReport this

You change your biology all the time. And thank goodness - Ever had to have surgery? Taken an aspirin?

Monday 11 AprilBy mary Vote downVote upReport this

we are not omnivores and no, it is not science. educate yourself!!

Monday 11 AprilBy blochuckles Vote downVote upReport this

Hey Mary! YOU need to educate YOURSELF!! Human beings are omnivores - eaters of both animals and vegetation! Look it up!

I've never met a healthy vegan, they always look like death.

Reply

Monday 11 AprilBy Mary Vote downVote upReport this

I know someone on that diet and she looks tired and washed out. Eat everything in moderation is just fine with me.

Monday 11 AprilBy lesleeHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Zooey and Emily Deschanel are both vegans. They look perfectly healthy to me as did Ms. Portman. I know lots of people who eat a regular diet and look like death.

Monday 11 AprilBy PemaHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

please no fibs. portman was vegan. she got thru black swan as a vegan...pamela anderson is vegan...she doesnt look like death warmed over. i frankly dont think youve met vegans.

Monday 11 AprilBy EricHigh Rank Vote downVote upReport this

That's a ridiculous statement. The overweight population of the United States doesn't only LOOK like death, it IS death. It's shocking how many trolls there are on the internet.

Monday 11 AprilBy OscarLowest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

Good start giving up the vegan diet, now how about giving up the Academy Award to one of the deserving actress's or better yet the real star, the dancer!

Reply

Monday 11 AprilBy SallyHighest Rank Vote downVote upReport this

If the oscar should go to the woman that did the dancing then it went to the right woman - Natalie. She trained for a year to be able to dance in the movie. If you listened to the director out of the 110 shots of dancing in the movie, her stand in only did 10. Remarkable. Natalie deserved the oscar.

Monday 11 AprilBy Chrissy Vote downVote upReport this

The award for best actress is meant for the actress in the movie. Regardless of whether she did her own dancing or not, any body double or dancer who had no speaking parts in the film does not deserve the award just because they dance. Natalie was the person acting in the film with all of the speaking parts for that character. She obviously would be the one deserving the award.

Monday 11 AprilBy lita Vote downVote upReport this

When did they start giving out Oscars for Dancing. You do understand that she got the Oscar for her acting not her dancing. Right?

Monday 11 AprilBy Sue Vote downVote upReport this

I suppose all actors and actresses should have given their Oscars to their body doubles, such as Rachel Weisz? Most actors use body doubles in one form or the other.

Where's the beef? After the nice weather we had this weekend, grilling steak and burgers, the beefs in my tummy. Yummy

"They do not merit the same value of being as us. They are not us."

But a cow isn't me. So it seems like a good argument.
