Letterman Gives New 'Daily Show' Host Some Great Tips

Next week, seven-year "Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver will take over for Jon Stewart as host of the show for three months. The only problem is, he has no idea how to interview actors.

"It's an American institution, and I just have to try not to destroy it," Oliver joked on Tuesday night's "Late Show" where he sat down with David Letterman to talk about his daunting new gig.

Luckily, Letterman had some solid advice to offer Oliver on how to talk to actors without making fun of them. Watch the video above to hear exactly what Oliver will be asking his guests when he has no idea what to ask.

Oliver takes over "The Daily Show" next Monday, June 10.

Anne Hathaway Gets Romantic at the "One Day" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

New York – Movie star, Oscar host and fashionista Anne Hathaway didn't disappoint her New York fans on Monday, Aug. 8, as she hit the red carpet for the premiere celebration of her new romance film "One Day." Decked out in an Alexander McQueen cocktail dress with a glittery golden bodice, the actress brought the glamour she's become known for, especially since that famous Oscar night last year when she changed outfits eight times in the course of the show.

So she was positively demure at the "One Day" premiere held at the Lincoln Center Loews Theaters, for she only changed her clothes once. The gorgeous brunette strolled the red carpet at the theater with co-stars Jim Sturgess and Patricia Clarkson as they promoted the Lone Scherfig-directed drama; afterwards, as the cast and executives from Focus Features reassembled for a post-party, Hathaway chose a floaty, bubble-skirted cream number.

The romance follows a couple from their first intimate encounter on their college graduation day through the ensuing years, with the audience only seeing the pair on that same day of the year. It's something of a rocky ride for the characters, but that's not what Hathaway has been experiencing in her own romantic life. Escorted to the premiere by Adam Shulman, her boyfriend of three years, Hathaway glowed with contentment, reflecting comments she made back in November 2010 while chatting with reporters about her last romantic flick, "Love and Other Drugs."

"I think that love is everything. I think that most people want love. I think the journey is sometimes really rocky to find it and it's an exploration and an adventure always and that's one of the most wonderful parts of being alive and one of the worst parts of being alive when it doesn't go well," she said. " It's an incredibly intoxicating feeling, that initial rush and then as you spend more time in it and it deepens it becomes something else entirely. It becomes all the epic things that the world is made up of, or at least that's been my experience."

There was plenty of love in the air at the "One Day" premiere, as Kevin Jonas snuggled with his wife of two years, Danielle Deleasa. Others on hand to check out the new film were actress Michael Michele, Imogen Potts and Beth Ostrosky, model Coco Rocha, and fashion designer Rachel Roy.

Bittersweet Goodbyes at the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

New York – It was their final red-carpet walk as their alter egos Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, and the young actors who have played those roles in the eight "Harry Potter" films were feeling nostalgic as they posed for photos together one last time. It all took place as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" premiered at Avery Fisher Hall in New York on Monday, July 11, and Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint couldn't help but get emotional.

"It's been a very weird time, really, of accepting the end. We finished filming a year ago and I now I have this quite empty feeling," Grint confessed at a press conference earlier. "It's taken me quite a while to accept that it is over."

Watson agreed with her co-star that getting through the final film and finishing up the last marketing push for the series was a bittersweet experience.

"It's so funny, in a way this one was incredibly challenging for me," she said, reflecting on the final movie adapted from the J. K. Rowling novels. "It really pushed me as an actress, but at the same time I was able to use a lot of my own genuine emotion that I felt about loss and all of it coming to an end. I was able to bring how I was feeling to the role."

Also on hand to celebrate the final chapter were many of the trio's co-stars, including Alan Rickman, Tom Felton and Matthew Lewis, as well as director David Yates, producer David Heyman and plenty of famous fans of the magical series.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick added to the general mayhem as masses of Pottermaniacs crowded behind barricades, trying to get a glimpse of their favorite stars. Just-married America Ferrera brought her new spouse, Ryan Piers Williams, into the mayhem.

Seth Green, Sarah Hyland, Ariana Grande, Clare Grant, Joey Fatone, Whoopi Goldberg, Mark Sanchez, Michael Chiklis and Marcia Gay Harden rounded out the well-known faces at the final premiere screening. And while a bit of sadness tinged the celebration, fans of the "Harry Potter" series can take heart, for at the London premiere held on July 7, Rowling told fans that Harry may just come back again someday in a new series of novels.

"It is my baby and if I want to bring it out to play again, I will," she said.

Jennifer Aniston Keeps It Simple at the "Horrible Bosses" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

Los Angeles – Summer is in full swing in Hollywood, which made it simple for Jennifer Aniston to get dressed for the premiere of her raunchy new comedy "Horrible Bosses." The actress slipped into a glittery little black minidress and a pair of strappy black sandals, and she was good to go on Thursday, June 30, off to Grauman's Chinese Theatre along with her new boyfriend, actor Justin Theroux.

But Theroux avoided the red carpet frenzy and slipped in a side door, as Aniston joined "Horrible Bosses" director Seth Gordon and her gang of co-stars on the extra-long walk into the theater. There are so many popular actors in "Horrible Bosses" who came out for the party, including Jamie Foxx, Jason Bateman, Julie Bowen, Jason Sudeikis, Isaiah Mustafa, Lindsay Sloane, Ioan Gruffudd and Charlie Day, that it took longer than usual for the photos and interviews to finish up.

Aniston, who plays a foul-mouthed, sexually inappropriate dentist, and a very bad boss in the film, loved getting the chance to change things up, starting with her look and finishing with a very bad attitude.

"I knew I wanted her to look different. I wanted her to have dark hair," Aniston told reporters at an earlier press conference. But that idea didn't go over very well with the executives at New Line Cinema, who wanted her to keep that signature hair of hers, despite the fact that she plays a despicable person, a character that is nothing like the Aniston audiences usually see on screen.

"We had this wonderful period of time that we called 'Hairgate,' because the studio was refusing, they did not want me to wear the dark wig, like, 'Nobody will know who you are!' I'm like, 'What do you mean? They'll know who I am because of my name in the credits, I hope.' I said, 'There's just no way I can be saying these words and playing this woman and not look somewhat different.'" Obviously, Aniston's star power won out, and she's a dark brunette in the movie.

Other comedy fans on hand for the premiere were Aniston's best girlfriend Chelsea Handler, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jenna Elfman and Alyssa Milano.

Katie Holmes Braves the "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" Premiere Solo (Fashion Wire Daily)

Los Angeles – Katie Holmes flew solo to the premiere of her upcoming horror flick "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" on Sunday, June 26, but she had a surrogate daughter to giggle with on the red carpet. It was the closing night of the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival, held downtown at the Regal Cinemas L. A. Live outpost, but Holmes' husband Tom Cruise was far away, in Miami shooting the new musical "Rock of Ages," so wasn't along for the gala. Holmes left Suri, their five-year-old fashionista at home, but her on-screen daughter, 11-year-old Bailee Madison, excitedly joined her for the festivities.

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is a remake of the 1973 television movie of the same name, that starred Kim Darby and Jim Hutton, in which a wife is terrorized by mysterious creatures living in her house. As screenwriter Guillermo del Toro, who is best known for his beautiful, scary Oscar-winning film "Pan's Labyrinth," and first-time director Troy Nixey have re-imagined it, this time out it is the child of the house who is visited by those creepy critters.

Del Toro and Nixey, along with producer Mark Johnson, LAFF director Rebecca Yeldham, actors Meaghan Martin, soap-star heartthrob Jordi Vilasuso and del Toro's favorite, star Ron Perlman from the "Hellboy" films that del Toro created, all took the party later into the night once the scary thriller had unspooled. The Closing Night Gala party rocked Club Nokia as the annual film festival celebrated ten successful days of movie madness and the movies that took home the organization's top prizes. Those included "Familiar Ground" as Best Narrative Feature and "Attack the Block," which took home the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature.

And while no festival best-of awards went to Katie Holmes or "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," that didn't stop her from drawing a big crowd of fans outside the premiere. She even stopped to sign a few autographs before slipping away, presumably headed home to tuck her little girl into bed.

Selena Gomez Does Double Duty at the "Monte Carlo" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

New York – Teen television star Selena Gomez looked all grown up on Thursday, June 23, as she walked the red carpet in New York to celebrate "Monte Carlo," her new feature-film comedy. Wearing a form-fitting, cleavage-revealing gown, the actress, who turns 19 in July, has obviously shed her childish ways.

She had to grow up a bit as she made the film, which centers around a case of mistaken identity. Gomez plays two parts: Grace, an American traveling in Europe with two girlfriends, and Cordelia, a rich British heiress. When Grace is mistaken for the heiress, the adventures that take them on a whirlwind trip from Paris to Monte Carlo begin.

But despite her long career as the star of the Disney television hit show "The Wizards of Waverly Place," playing two parts in a big studio movie was a bit of a scary challenge for the then 17-year-old girl.

"I was nervous as all get out," Gomez admitted to reporters at a press conference earlier in the week in New York. "I was really nervous because Cordelia is a totally different character from me. She was completely evil and had an accent. So, I was a little nervous, but I had a great time."

Gomez gushed over the couture clothes she wears in the film, but revealed that they, too, were just a bit intimidating.

"Grace's wardrobe was very Texan and very simple, but very pretty. Cordelia's was very intense. I mean, she wore really amazing dresses and jackets and glasses and purses and earrings. It was really fun to create that whole vibe," she recalled. "She was very high fashion. My personal clothes are just kind of simple. I like classic things."

She likes her current boyfriend, too, pop sensation Justin Bieber, and like any good companion, he joined her for her big night at the premiere, along with her "Monte Carlo" co-stars Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell. MacDowell made it a family affair, bringing her daughters Rainey and Sarah Margaret Qualley to the party.

New York – Known as the 'Oscars of the fragrance industry,' nominees and stars gathered on Wednesday, May 25, in New York at the FiFi Awards hosted by The Fragrance Foundation to honor those that have contributed to creativity in the scent-producing industry. Halle Berry was awarded Fragrance Celebrity of the Year for "Reveal" and Fergie received the award for New Fragrance Celebrity of the Year for "Outspoken."

Comparing food to fragrance on the red carpet, Iron Chef Cat Cora said, "It's all about enticing the senses. It's got to be a fine balance between something that's got a nice fragrance and goes with my lifestyle." Cora, who later presented the Fragrance of the Year award to Berry, acknowledged the talented nominees in her category, especially the women. "I'm doing a category that's got Halle Berry, Shakira, Eva Longoria and for men's Antonio Banderas," said Cora. "I think the three women all have something really sexy to offer and that's why they're nominated against each other."

Berry is no stranger to this sensuous industry with currently three signature scents under her belt. She acknowledges the power of perfume in program notes saying, "I truly believe that fragrance makes women feel beautiful and confident." The Academy Award winning actress wore a black one-shoulder Halston dress with half cut-out midriff.

The night was full of many beautiful and confident women and all had different tips and hints on how to best enjoy the luxuries of fragrance. Kelli Bensimon, who presented last night, recommended spraying the mane. "I always spray my hair because we all have different DNA so the same scent will smell different on each person." Tiffani Thiessen, who admitted Giorgio Armani's Sensi used to be her pre-baby go-to scent, said that when spraying keep in mind that "the back of your neck is great and the middle of your back, but those are for the special people."

Fergie, who was surprised by husband Josh Duhamel before receiving her award, wore a custom made yellow BCBG gown. The singer, who said it took two years to complete the Eau de Parfum, is credited with creating Avon's most successful fragrance and graciously accepted her award saying, "it feels unbelievable for me to have the biggest launch in Avon's history. It feels amazing to be honored by the industry."

Bear Hugs and Big Smiles at the "Kung Fu Panda 2" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

Los Angeles – A beaming Angelina Jolie held hands with Brad Pitt and led the celebrity charge down the long red carpet on Hollywood Boulevard early on May 22. It was a bit overcast in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, but that didn't stop Jolie and Pitt from delighting in the spectacle of the "Kung Fu Panda 2" premiere, appropriately held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The sequel to the 2008 animated hit that is set in ancient China brings back much of the star-studded vocal cast from the first film, from Jack Black to Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, Dustin Hoffman and James Hong, and they all joined their leading lady for the celebration. Asian acrobats wowed the huge crowd of fans massed behind barricades, a huge paper dragon danced the length of the carpet and massive brightly colored Chinese lanterns lined the walkway while two giant Po pandas handed out big bear hugs.

Other famous fans of the lazy panda turned kung fu expert that came out for the premiere festivities included Camryn Manheim and her kids, Marcia Gay Harden with her family, Danny McBride, Nancy O'Dell and Cedric the Entertainer.

But it was Jolie, Pitt, Black and Hoffman who jumped right into the adoring crowd, signing autographs and posing for photos, then greeted the new vocal talent to "Kung Fu Panda 2," including Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Haysbert. It's a routine the leading actors have been repeating a lot lately, as Jolie, Black, and Hoffman also premiered the new comedy last week in France at the Cannes Film Festival.

It was there that Jolie explained the simple reason she's been ready and willing to lend her voice to the character of Tigress in the films.

"At the end of the day, we're all just big kids and we love to do these movies, it's a great deal of fun," she said. Plus, having six children "from ages two to ten" didn't hurt, either. "In so many ways, I did it for them."

Los Angeles – Disneyland is the home of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" adventure ride, so it makes perfect sense that the stars of the movies created from that ride met there to celebrate the fourth installment in the series. Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and newcomers Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane joined forces to walk the black carpet there, at the premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" on Saturday afternoon, May 7.

Hordes of fans turned out for the chance to see Depp, who is arguably the most popular man on the planet at the moment. It's a situation that makes the handsome 47-year-old actor chuckle.

"It's interesting to experience this kind of ride, after essentially 20 years of enjoying a career based on failures," he told reporters during an earlier press conference for the new film. "Suddenly, something clicks. The weird thing is that I never changed a thing. The process is still the process, as it ever was. The fact that people decided to go and see a movie that I was in was probably the most shocking thing that I've ever been through!"

It was no shock that the "Pirates 4" premiere pass was the hottest ticket in town, as Hollywood's biggest stars headed south to Anaheim to be the first to see the summer blockbuster. Look one way, there was Javier Bardem, Cruz's proud husband, along with "Desperate Housewives" Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher, rock legend Keith Richards and "Dancing with the Stars" duo Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Look another, and spot Jodie Foster, Andy Garcia, Vanessa Hudgens, and Martin Short. One more turn and see Jennifer Grey, Eliza Dushku with Rick Fox as her escort, Adrian Pasdar, Emma Roberts, Ashley Tisdale and Cheryl Burke. There was even Kevin Sorbo dressed up as a pirate, complete with headscarf; he laughed with Steven Tyler and the film's director, Rob Marshall, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Bruckheimer, who has made millions from the first three movies already, was probably happy to hear Depp tell reporters at the press conference that he's ready to play Captain Jack Sparrow for many years to come.

"Interestingly enough, for me, a character like Captain Jack, you feel like you could just continue. The possibilities are endless and limitless. There is always a possibility of madness and absurdity that could commence, so you feel that, with this character, you're never really done," he said. "They'll wheel me in. My dreads will get tangled in the wheels of my chair!"

Kate Hudson Glows at the "Something Borrowed" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

Los Angeles – It was hard to miss Kate Hudson as she slowly walked the blue carpet laid out in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Tuesday, May 3. Not only because she's the leading lady of "Something Borrowed," the romantic comedy that was celebrating its premiere there, but also because Hudson lit up the place with a pretty yellow Valentino gown that accentuated her very obvious baby bump and rosy-cheeked pregnancy glow.

Hudson, who is eight months along with her second child, showed off a huge diamond engagement ring, too, along with the guy who gave it to her, Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy. At an earlier press day for the film, the Oscar-nominated actress mused on what having another child would do to her career choices.

"I think now what's happening to me is that I'm shifting," Hudson, who also has a seven-year-old son from her first marriage, explained. "There are always different times and shifts in your life, especially when you have kids. Now I'm going to have two kids. Meaning that making 'Something Borrowed' was probably the last time that I would be able to do something on a whim, to just pack up and go away. The kids are the priority."

Those issues of family versus career aren't as pressing for Hudson's still-single co-star Ginnifer Goodwin, who joined the actress and their male counterparts, Colin Egglesfield, John Krasinski and Steve Howey, to celebrate their new flick. Based on the novel of the same name, it's all about a love triangle, as two female best friends fall for the same guy.

Perhaps that's a tale that's been told a bit too often, but that didn't seem to bother the other familiar female faces that flocked to the screening and after party, including the film's producer Hilary Swank, along with singer Natasha Bedingfield, and actresses Sarah Shahi, Kristin Cavallari, Katerina Graham, Marisa Coughlan, Kate Flannery, Samantha Harris and Ashley Williams. Seems taking a look at "Something Borrowed" is a definite girls' night out.
