Former 1930s Child Star Dies At Age 91

Former child star Deanna Durbin has died at the age of 91, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Durbin's son, Peter H. David, was quoted in the "Deanna Durbin Society" newsletter saying his mother had passed away several days ago, but he did not provide any other details about her death.

Durbin gained popularity during the Depression and was known for her "sweet soprano voice" that charmed American audiences, according to the New York Times.

The actress was born Edna Mae Durbin; her British parents moved from Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Los Angeles when she was 2 years old, and she was discovered while still in junior high school. She made her film debut in the 1936 MGM short “Every Sunday,” with Judy Garland. Soon after, she signed a contract with Universal, changed her name to Deanna, and was cast in a series of musical comedies, reports Variety.

The Canadian-born actress was reportedly the second-highest paid actress in America in 1946, bringing in just $5,000 less than Bette Davis, with a salary of $323,477 from Universal, according to the Times. Despite her obvious popularity, Durbin would go on to retire just two years later at the age of 29, making "For The Love Of Mary" her final film. The actress had remained out of the public eye ever since.

The former child star, married Charles David, who directed her in the 1945 film "Lady on a Train," in 1951 and together they had one son, Peter. Durbin had previously been married to assistant director Vaughn Paul from 1941 to 1943, and writer-actor Felix Jackson, with whom she had a daughter, Jessica, from 1945 to 1949.

Mel Gibson, Oksana Grigorieva settle child custody (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend on Friday settled a deeply bitter custody dispute over their young daughter which led to the Oscar winner's plea of no contest to domestic violence earlier this year.

Los Angeles Superior Court said in a statement an agreement was complete and terms will be heard on August 31. A spokesman for the "Braveheart" film director confirmed the parties had settled.

"We appreciate all the judge's help," the spokesman said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear whether the custody deal between Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva over their daughter Lucia settled all of the legal problems between the two. Gibson's spokesman declined further comment.

Gibson and Grigorieva had a long-running relationship that involved the breakup of his marriage and the birth of their daughter but it began to unravel in early 2010. Grigorieva claimed Gibson punched her and broke her tooth during a heated argument in January that year.

In March, the "Passion of the Christ" director admitted in front of a judge that he slapped Grigorieva with an open hand during an argument in which he was concerned for the safety of Lucia. He pleaded no contest -- the equivalent of guilty -- and was sentenced to three years probation.

Gibson has alleged Grigorieva tried to extort money from him beyond a reported $20 million settlement that resulted from their breakup by using a series of audiotapes of insults and a racial slurs hurled at her over the telephone. Prosecutors declined to charge her in the matter.

The tapes, posted last year on celebrity website Radaronline.com, damaged Gibson's career. His manager left, a movie's release was delayed and others refused to work with him.

Roughly one month later, Gibson said in a television interview he regarded the leak of the phone calls to the media as a "personal betrayal."

Lauryn Hill: Rohan Marley not father of 6th child (AP)

NEW YORK – After the birth of her sixth child, Lauryn Hill wants to clear up two things: Rohan (RO'-han) Marley didn't abandon her while she was pregnant, and he's not the baby's father.

The blogosphere has been abuzz after word came last week that the reclusive Grammy winner had a baby boy. Marley, the father of her five other children, sent a message on Twitter "forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son." That tweet, along with pictures showing him in an embrace with another woman, created speculation.

Hill has rarely discussed their yearslong relationship. She posted a message on Twitter and her website Tuesday defending Marley. She says they've had a "long and complex history" but love their five children together.

Edith Fellows, child actress of 1930s, dies at 88 (AP)

LOS ANGELES – Edith Fellows, a child actress who was the subject of a famous 1936 custody case, has died. She was 88.

Her daughter, Kathy Fields Lander, tells the Los Angeles Times that Fellows died of natural causes Sunday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Los Angeles.

Fellows' mother abandoned her as an infant, and she was raised by her grandmother, who brought her to Hollywood. She made about 50 movies in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, including the 1936 film "Pennies from Heaven." She later turned to the stage and TV.

Fellows was 13 when her mother sued for custody. Fellows testified that she wasn't "used to loving strangers" and remained with her grandmother.

Her childhood earnings were placed in trust, but most later mysteriously vanished.

"Sperminator" Schwarzenegger scorned over love child (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – To fans, he was movie star tough guy the Terminator. Then he turned to politics and was affectionately dubbed the Governator. But after acknowledging that he fathered a child out of wedlock, Arnold Schwarzenegger was swiftly given a new name -- the Sperminator.

Schwarzenegger's admission on Tuesday that he impregnated a member of his household staff 10 years ago, while married to Maria Shriver and before running for California governor, triggered scorn, shock and ridicule in the U.S. media.

The couple's announcement last week that they were splitting after 25 years of marriage and four children followed allegations in 2003 that the bodybuilder turned action hero had made unwanted sexual advances on women in the past.

Shriver at the time defended her husband and helped save his gubernatorial campaign, fueling the outrage on Tuesday over Schwarzenegger's secret offspring.

Veteran Hollywood publicist Michael Levine called it "the most outrageous Hollywood scandal" since director Woody Allen's affair with Soon-Yi Previn, the adopted daughter of his longtime companion, actress Mia Farrow, in 1992.

"I don't think I am shockable any more ... but this one is breathtaking in its outrageous, egregious, irresponsible arrogance," Levine said.

The all-female hosts of television chat show "The View" feasted on Schwarzenegger's disclosure. "Who knew that the Sperminator was doing more than pumping iron?" quipped co-host Joy Behar.

Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez, whose newspaper was the first to break the story, scathingly termed Schwarzenegger "the biggest phony."

"I would have thought it would be hard for Mr. Universe to top his 2003 confession that he was a serial groper.

"Now I'm wondering if there's anything else we should know. Any more love children out there? Has anybody checked with maids and nannies in the (Los Angeles) neighborhood where Schwarzenegger lives?" Lopez wrote on Tuesday.

Shriver on Tuesday asked for compassion, privacy and respect at what she called this "painful and heartbreaking time."

Two of her four children with Schwarzenegger took to Twitter, both stating their love for their family.

"Some days you feel like shit, some days you want to quit and just be normal for a bit, yet i love my family till death do us apart," wrote Patrick Schwarzenegger, 17, who signed himself "Shriver."

Katherine Schwarzenegger, 21, said in a tweet of her own, "This is definitely not easy but I appreciate your love and support as i begin to heal and move forward in life. I will always love my family!"

The scandal broke four months after Schwarzenegger left office as California governor and prepares to return to his iconic role as a killing-machine cyborg from the future in a proposed new "Terminator" movie.

It was too early on Tuesday to assess the damage to his Hollywood plans. But Bonnie Fuller, editor in chief of celebrity website HollywoodLife.com, also derided Schwarzenegger as "Arnold the Sperminator" and said it was "way too late to ask for the forgiveness of the public."

"You never would have been elected if Maria hadn't had your back. And certainly you never would have been elected if the voters knew about the affair that produced this child," Fuller wrote.

Schwarzenegger child report spurs media frenzy (AP)

By GOSIA WOZNIACKA and JOHN ROGERS, Associated Press Gosia Wozniacka And John Rogers, Associated Press – Wed May 18, 10:57 pm ET

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The revelation that Arnold Schwarzenegger has an out-of-wedlock child with a former employee turned into a tabloid frenzy Wednesday as scores of reporters and photographers swarmed a quiet suburban cul-de-sac in the middle of California farm country amid unconfirmed reports it was the home of the child's mother.

The owner of the house, identified in property records as Mildred Patricia Baena, was not at the Bakersfield home when the flash mob arrived, its satellite TV trucks filling her quiet street and spilling onto another one. The media descended after the woman's name was first reported by Radar Online and subsequently by other news outlets including The New York Times, which cited two unnamed friends of the family.

Schwarzenegger's office declined to discuss whether Baena is the mother of the former governor's child.

Baena's adult daughter, Jacqueline Rozo, told The Associated Press her mother had worked for Schwarzenegger until recently, but declined to discuss her further. The AP has not independently confirmed that Baena is the mother of Schwarzenegger's child.

The scandal exploded into public view after Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver announced last week that they were splitting up after 25 years of marriage. Then came an admission by the former two-term governor that he fathered a child with a member of the household staff.

A photo of the boy posted on Baena's MySpace page shows a fairly strong resemblance to Schwarzenegger, particularly when the actor-bodybuilder-politician was younger.

"If I saw him or his picture, I would see the resemblance," next-door neighbor Marilyn Steelman said, adding that she never thought of any connection or resemblance between the boy and former governor after seeing him in the neighborhood.

Steelman told The Associated Press that after moving into the neighborhood about a year ago, the family told her the woman worked for Schwarzenegger and was planning to retire soon.

Until about 2 1/2 months ago, Steelman said, the woman was rarely home except on weekends, and said she lived during the week in an apartment in the Los Angeles area, 100 miles to the south.

Charlene Powers, a real estate agent who represented the seller of the home, said she was told it was being purchased for an employee of Schwarzenegger, and that he was helping her with the down payment. Records show the family took a loan of $219,224 to purchase the home for $268,000.

Real estate records at the county assessor's office make no mention of Schwarzenegger's name.

Another real estate agent, Alex Guerrero, who represented Baena, declined to discuss her.

Steelman said Baena, her husband and 13-year-old son have been fine neighbors.

She said the boy often walks his dog, a white poodle named Sugar, in the neighborhood of fashionable, relatively new homes sporting red-tile roofs and two- and three-car garages. He also plays basketball or swims in his family's backyard pool.

"He's a wonderful kid. Such a nice young man. He's respectful of people and property, very courteous. He's very intelligent. He's just a kid you want to be around," she said.

The Los Angeles Times, which first reported Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with a longtime family employee, has not named the woman but has said she retired in January after working for the former governor and his family for 20 years.

He and his aides have declined to release her name or any details beyond a statement in which he apologized to his wife and four children with her and asked for privacy for his family.

Schwarzenegger has said Shriver didn't learn the child was his until he told her after leaving the governor's office in January.

The birth certificate for the Bakersfield woman's son shows he was born the same week as Schwarzenegger and Shriver's youngest son.

Shriver, who has not discussed the matter since issuing a brief statement Monday, made a quick walk-on appearance that same day at a taping of one of Oprah Winfrey's final shows, telling the talk show host she has "given me love, support, wisdom and most of all the truth." The show is expected to air Tuesday.

One person familiar with the situation said the former governor has been humbled and embarrassed by the ordeal.

"It's been very, very hard for him," said the individual, who requested anonymity out of respect for the family's privacy. "He's embarrassed. He's not focused on what steps he needs to take for himself, but the steps he needs to take for his family."

The incident returned to the public's attention numerous allegations made over the years that Schwarzenegger was a notorious womanizer.

It also threatened to bring forth more women with allegations against Schwarzenegger. On Wednesday, Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred confirmed she is representing Gigi Goyette, a former child actress who has said she had annual trysts with Schwarzenegger at a bodybuilding competition he sponsored in Ohio.

"I can confirm that I do represent Gigi Goyette," Allred said in an email. "We have no comment at this time and we will also have no comment tomorrow."

Shortly before Schwarzenegger was elected governor in 2003, the Los Angeles Times reported allegations from more than a dozen women who said he had groped them or made unwanted advances. He apologized at the time for having behaved badly in his younger years, and went on to win election.

Schwarzenegger biographer Joe Mathews said the public shouldn't have been all that surprised by this week's revelations. Mathews quoted the former governor's own words, "where there's smoke there's fire" while acknowledging the groping allegations in 2003.

There had also been rumors on the political circuit for years of a Schwarzenegger out-of-wedlock child, Mathews said, although the accounts could not be verified until now. The author of the 2006 book, "The People's Machine: Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Rise of Blockbuster Democracy," noted that both Schwarzenegger and Shriver were careful to parse their words when they addressed the womanizing allegations in 2003, never issuing an outright denial.

"She didn't come out and defend him and say he's a faithful, great husband," he said of Shriver's defense of her husband. "She said he's a person who is really smart and really wants to do this job and has a lot to offer California."

Perhaps more telling, as early as 1999, Mathews said, Schwarzenegger, who was then considering a run for governor, called aides together in Los Angeles and, rather that discuss possible political positions, railed against the impeachment of President Bill Clinton for his sexual liaison with Monica Lewinsky. If that was the way politicians' personal lives were exposed, Schwarzenegger told them, he might not seek office, Mathews said.

Since leaving the governor's office earlier this year, Schwarzenegger has indicated some interest in continuing in politics, perhaps becoming a spokesman for environmental causes, including green energy development, one of the issues he worked hardest for as governor. Mathews noted that Schwarzenegger hasn't flatly ruled out a run for U.S. Senate either, although he speculated it would be hard for him to get elected now.

The former star has also made it clear he wants to return to Hollywood. He recently announced plans to play himself in an animated TV show called "The Governator" and is scheduled to begin filming this summer on "Cry Macho," a film drama in which he would play a horse trainer. The former world bodybuilding champion is also in negotiations to reprise what is arguably his most popular role, as the relentless killer cyborg in the "Terminator" films.

Media hunts mother of Arnie's love child (AFP)

BAKERSFIELD, California (AFP) – The media spotlight turned on the mystery woman with whom Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a love child, kept secret by the movie star turned politician for over a decade.

Reports identified her as Mildred Patricia Baena, who was a housekeeper for Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver for two decades before retiring in recent months.

The former California governor admitted Tuesday to fathering a child with a staff member over a decade ago, but only told Shriver after he left office in January, triggering their separation announced last week.

Media including the TMZ celebrity news website identified her as Baena, publishing multiple photographs and triggering a journalistic manhunt to find the woman herself.

She was tracked down to her home in Bakersfield, a city 100 miles north of Los Angeles, but there was no sign of life in her single-story house where a media camp quickly developed.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver announced their separation last week, four months after the former "Terminator" star left political office.

They gave no reason for the split at the time, but on Tuesday Arnie revealed he had told his wife about the child he had fathered with another woman, a long-term member of the couple's household staff.

The former bodybuilder's estranged wife Shriver, a daughter of the Kennedy political dynasty, issued a statement Tuesday asking for privacy during a "painful and heartbreaking time."

It is not the first time the marriage has been strained by Schwarzenegger's relations with other women: it came under the spotlight notably during the 2003 election which he won, amid reports of his history of groping women.

The couple, who met in 1977 and married in 1986, have four children, aged between 14 and 21.

Since January Schwarzenegger has started to return to show business, unveiling plans for a "Governator" comic book and animated TV show, and reportedly signing for a new film in the "Terminator" series.

Schwarzenegger fathered child outside marriage (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has acknowledged that he fathered a child more than 10 years ago with a member of his household staff.

The revelation came a week after Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-born former bodybuilder turned Hollywood actor, and his wife, Maria Shriver, a veteran broadcast journalist and daughter of the Kennedy political dynasty, jointly announced their split after 25 years of marriage and four children.

"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger said in replying to the Times. A Schwarzenegger spokesman later gave a copy of the statement to Reuters.

"I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses, and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry," Schwarzenegger, 63, said in the statement.

Shriver, 55, in a statement to People magazine released on Tuesday, asked for compassion and privacy.

"This is a painful and heartbreaking time," she said. "As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment."

As one of the most high-profile but improbable couples in American public life -- a powerful Republican politician and a stalwart Democrat -- the pair endured years of persistent allegations about Schwarzenegger's extramarital dalliances and sexual misconduct.

SHRIVER HELPED GUBERNATORIAL CAREER

Shriver was widely credited with saving Schwarzenegger's successful 2003 gubernatorial campaign by steadfastly standing by her husband amid a swirl of media accounts at the time reporting on his history of groping other women.

In announcing their marital separation last Monday, Schwarzenegger and Shriver said they "came to this decision together" but gave no reason for the split.

Schwarzenegger, limited by state law to two terms as governor, declared his intention to return to show business a month after leaving office.

But Shriver, forced to give up her NBC News career while acting as California's first lady, recently posted a video message to supporters on YouTube lamenting that she found it "stressful to not know what you're doing next." Her parents both died during the past two years.

Her mother, Eunice Kennedy, was the sister of assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and her father, Sargent Shriver, was the first director of the Peace Corps and the 1972 Democratic nominee for vice president.

Neither the woman involved with Schwarzenegger nor her child was identified by the Times. However, when contacted by the newspaper on Monday before the ex-governor issued his statement, she said she had retired in January after 20 years of working with the family. She told the newspaper her then-husband was the child's father.

Later Monday, the woman had no comment when the newspaper informed her of Schwarzenegger's statement.

Although a staunch Democrat, Shriver campaigned actively for her Republican husband when he sought to recall and replace then-Governor Gray Davis, a Democrat, in 2003, and again when Schwarzenegger won reelection in 2006. Many analysts credited her with rescuing his early political career.

A key turning point in the 2003 campaign came when she appeared with him in October of that year at a hastily called news conference to deflect allegations from numerous women published that day in the Los Angeles Times claiming he had sexually harassed them.

Schwarzenegger acknowledged then that he had "misbehaved" and apologized "to the people I've offended," adding, "what was once considered playful behavior on a movie set is now considered something else."

All that would have occurred roughly two years after Schwarzenegger already had fathered a child out of wedlock, according to his own decade-plus timeline.

He and Shriver last week said they would continue to parent their four children together and were living separately while they worked on their relationship.

Jermaine Dupri sued over child support payments (AP)

By JONATHAN LANDRUM Jr., Associated Press Jonathan Landrum Jr., Associated Press – Mon May 9, 8:02 pm ET

ATLANTA – An Atlanta-area woman is suing music producer Jermaine Dupri over missed child support payments after a judge recently ordered him to pay her.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Margaret Dorsey told the Grammy-winning producer in March to pay $2,500 a month and an additional $7,500 to Sarai Jones, based on the results of a paternity test.

Jones' attorney, Randy Kessler, said Jones hopes that she and Dupri "can work together to co-parent their beautiful baby girl," who is 7 months old.

Dupri's lawyer, James Kane, declined to comment.

The lawsuit was filed at a time when Dupri is facing financial troubles. His mansion was up for foreclosure and set to be auctioned last week, but the sale was canceled at the last minute.

WSB-TV obtained records from the Georgia Department of Revenue, saying that Dupri owes the state more than $493,000 in back taxes for 2007.

Based off his 2006 income, Forbes.com said Dupri was one of hip-hop's top earners, taking home $12 million.

Dupri has produced hits for artists including Usher and Mariah Carey, and had a seven-year relationship with R&B singer Janet Jackson that ended a couple years ago. He lives in the Atlanta area.

Jackie Cooper, former child star, dies at 88 (AP)

LOS ANGELES – With his boyish looks and his thick head of blond hair, Jackie Cooper seemed to be eternally young. He was "Skippy," taking the popular comic strip character to the big screen in a turn that would garner a best actor Oscar nod at age 9.

Cooper remained the youngest player to be nominated for that category, an accolade that he likely didn't care much about at the time: The handsome kid with the winning smile fell asleep during the ceremony in the lap of another nominee, Marie Dressler.

It was that honesty that kept Cooper grounded about life in the spotlight and the realities of being a working actor, whether he was starring in films or TV shows, or behind the scenes as a director or studio honcho.

"He was a fascinating guy who really did everything, from all different aspects of the business," said his son, Russell Cooper. "You can't really say that about many people."

Jackie Cooper, 88, died Tuesday at a nursing facility in Santa Monica, Calif., said his other son, John.

Cooper reigned with Shirley Temple as one of the most popular child stars of the 1930s. Starting in comedy shorts, he rose to top ranks with "Skippy," a sentimental adaptation of a popular comic strip. He followed with such hits as "The Champ," "The Bowery," "Treasure Island" and "O'Shaughnessy's Boy," all co-starring Wallace Beery.

With his career fading after World War II, Cooper left Hollywood for the New York theater. He returned to Hollywood and starred in two successful situation comedies, "The People's Choice" (1955-58) and "Hennessey" (1959-62). He appeared as a Navy doctor in "Hennessey," which he also produced and directed.

"I think it's tough to direct and star in a feature," he commented in a 1971 interview. "Either the direction or the performance will suffer. But an actor can direct himself in television. I found it essential to relieve the crushing boredom of starring in a series."

He directed more than 250 half-hour and hour-long series episodes, 16 two-hour movies and numerous pilots and commercials. At one point, he vowed he would never act again. But he returned for an occasional role, most notably as gruff Daily Planet editor Perry White in Christopher Reeves' four "Superman" movies.

"He managed to change with the business," said his son John. "Early in his life, he experienced the kind of success that many people do not have, if they have that kind of success at all, until much later."

Jackie had a memorable bit in the 1929 musical "Sunny Side Up" and appeared in eight of the popular "Our Gang" comedies, including "Pups Is Pups" and "Teacher's Pet." Those credits led to a test that won him the title role of "Skippy."

The director of the 1931 film was his uncle, Norman Taurog. A crucial scene called for Jackie to cry. The tears wouldn't come, and Taurog became angry. He called the boy's beloved dog a nuisance and said he would send it to the pound. Jackie threw a tantrum, infuriating the director.

"If you don't do what I say, I'll have the policeman shoot the dog," Taurog threatened, pointing to the armed security guard.

The tears flowed, and the scene was filmed, and Taurog went on to win the Oscar for best director. Fifty years later, Cooper titled his autobiography, "Please Don't Shoot My Dog."

He was born John Cooper Jr. on Sept. 15, 1922, in Los Angeles. His Jewish father, who ran a music store, had married an Italian musician, Mabel Leonard, but deserted her when their son was 2. Destitute, his mother found work at Fox studio as a secretary. Through her brother-in-law, Taurog, she was able to arrange extra work in movies for young Jackie.

MGM signed Cooper to a contract after "Skippy," and he attended the studio school with Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland and Freddie Bartholomew. Cooper proved an ideal combination with Beery, the rough, tough character whose heart is melted by the winsome kid.

Unlike some child actors, Cooper was able to sustain his stardom through adolescence. Among Cooper's other 1930s films: "Sooky" (a sequel to "Skippy"), "Broadway to Hollywood," "Lone Cowboy," "Dinky," "The Devil Is a Sissy" (with Rooney and Bartholomew), "Peck's Bad Boy," "White Banners," "Gangster's Boy," "That Certain Age" (opposite Deanna Durbin), "What a Life" (as Henry Aldrich), "Seventeen" and "The Return of Frank James."

After four years in the Navy, he returned to find his career had slumped.

"I managed to find work, but it was in low-budget pictures," he recalled in 1971. "I couldn't see myself continuing like that.

"About that time, I had become acquainted with some New York actors, like Keenan Wynn and John Garfield. Garfield kept telling me to 'get back to New York where you can learn your craft.'"

Cooper followed the advice and appeared as Ensign Pulver in Broadway and road companies of "Mister Roberts." He starred in two hit comedies: "Remains to Be Seen" and "King of Hearts."

During the early 1950s, the television industry was exploding in New York, and he acted in many live dramas. It led to his return to Hollywood and success with "The People's Choice" and "Hennessey."

Tiring of the weekly series grind, Cooper in 1964 accepted a five-year contract as production head of Screen Gems, the TV arm of Columbia Pictures.

"Like so many of those jobs, the honeymoon was over after the first two years," he remarked. "Then you find yourself spending all your time trying to sell your bosses on what you want to do. My last selling job was 'The Flying Nun.' They kept telling me that people wouldn't watch a show about Catholics." He persisted, and the series starring Sally Field became a hit.

After almost 50 years in the business, Cooper thought of retiring in the early 1970s. Then producer Mike Frankovich offered him a role in "The Love Machine," and a film to direct, "Stand Up and Be Counted." He continued with occasional acting roles and a heavy schedule of directing for television.

Cooper married three times: to June Horne (with whom he had a son, John) and Hildy Parks, then to Barbara Kraus (with whom he had a son, Russell, and two daughters, Julie and Christina).

"There's not a child actor in the lot," he once remarked happily.

Cooper is survived by his two sons.
