Prostate problem made Depardieu pee on plane: friend (Reuters)

PARIS (Reuters) – French actor Gerard Depardieu was humiliated and apologized to fellow passengers when prostate problems forced him to urinate in front of them during takeoff on an Air France flight this week, a friend said.

Fellow actor Edouard Baer, who was traveling with the 62-year-old film star on the flight to Dublin to film the latest "Asterix and Obelix" movie, said Depardieu had tried to urinate in a water bottle when denied access to the toilet by a hostess.

"It's just that the bottle was too small. It's true that it overflowed," Baer told Europe 1 radio. "He was embarrassed. He wanted to clean it up...It was very humiliating and awkward for him. He obviously made a big scene (saying) 'I pissed on myself'."

The incident came to light on Wednesday when a passenger on the flight from Paris to Dublin told French radio that Depardieu, star of movies such as "Jean de Florette" and "Green Card," appeared to be drunk and had urinated in the aisle during takeoff, when passengers must remain seated.

The Tuesday evening flight AF5010 operated by CityJet, a subsidiary of Air France, was forced to return to the terminal where a team boarded the plane to clean the carpet. It finally took off with a delay of 1 hour and 15 minutes, an Air France spokesperson said.

"However outrageous my friend Gerard can be, no-one would be happy to have prostate problems and to be obliged to urinate," Baer said.

"Gerard wanted to explain to the people on the plane, then he was furious, which I can understand, but he did not lose his temper. It was the hostess who was being zealous, and there you go, he took the next airplane. There was no problem."

Depardieu is one of France's best known actors internationally with more than 100 films under his belt, including the "Asterix" series.

He was awarded a Cesar -- the French equivalent of an Oscar -- for best actor for his interpretation of the large-nosed romantic Cyrano de Bergerac in the 1990 movie of the same name.

Depardieu outrages passengers by urinating in plane (Reuters)

PARIS (Reuters) – French actor Gerard Depardieu outraged fellow passengers by urinating in the aisle of an Air France flight as it prepared to take off on Tuesday, forcing the plane to turn back to its parking spot.

A passenger on the flight said Depardieu, 62, the star of movies such as "Jean de Florette" and "Green Card," appeared to be drunk and insisted he be allowed to use the bathroom during takeoff, when passengers must remain seated.

When he was asked by a hostess to return to his seat, Depardieu urinated in the aisle, the passenger told French radio station Europe 1 on Wednesday.

"You could see that he had been drinking, but there were no comments. The hostess was shocked but there was no argument, nothing," said the passenger.

"I was outraged. When you are an actor, you are not like other people, you do not have to abide by the rules. He could have waited, all the same."

A spokesperson for national carrier Air France confirmed the passenger's version of events.

"I confirm the fact that he (Depardieu) did indeed urinate in the plane," the spokesperson said.

Depardieu's agents were on vacation and his PR office had no comment to make.

The evening flight AF5010 operated by CityJet, a subsidiary of Air France, was forced to return to the terminal where a team boarded the plane to clean the carpet.

A spokesperson for CityJet said a passenger was escorted from the plane and the flight resumed after a delay of an hour and 15 minutes. He declined to confirm the passenger's identity.

Paris Hilton loses cellphones on plane to Manila (AP)

MANILA, Philippines – Paris Hilton is suffering a new bout of cellphone drama. The heiress-turned-TV star reportedly lost two mobile devices on a flight to the Philippines for a visit to promote a hotel resort.

Television footage showed Hilton combing through a bag looking upset while she was surrounded by airline staff at the Manila airport late Sunday after arriving from Dubai.

Manila radio station DZBB reported that airport and airline authorities are investigating.

In 2005, hackers gained access to Hilton's Sidekick cellphone and famously splashed the private mobile numbers of her celebrity friends online.

The latest loss apparently didn't leave Hilton completely cut off — she greeted fans with a tweet "I love you" in the local Tagalog language.
