Johnny Depp, Disney developing two films (Reuters)

By Joshua L. Weinstein Joshua L. Weinstein – Tue Jul 12, 2:40 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) – Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil and Walt Disney Studios are developing two projects -- an adaptation of "The Night Stalker" and a Paul Revere story, TheWrap has confirmed.

It's early in the process, but Disney is hoping that Depp will star in both, and he and Christi Dembrowski will produce.

"The Night Stalker" is based on the 1972 ABC-TV movie that turned into the series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." It was about a newspaper reporter in Chicago who investigated mysterious deaths, often finding a supernatural connection.

The Revere movie is based on the colonial figure and his famous midnight ride -- recently brought to light again after former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin misstated the basics of the Revere story.

Lee and Janet Batchler ("Batman Forever") will write that movie. No writer has been attached to "Night Stalker."

Depp and Disney are a profitable team. Their most recent collaboration, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has grossed more than $1 billion, as did their 2010 "Alice in Wonderland."

Depp is also starring in Disney's 2012 "The Lone Ranger" and is near a deal for a fifth "Pirates" film.

Kara DioGuardi developing new docu-series for Bravo (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Former "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi has teamed up with Bravo to develop a new docu-series.

The "KARA" project takes a glimpse inside the music business through the perspective of songwriter-producer DioGuardi, who also serves as head judge on the cable network's upcoming music competition series "Platinum Hit," making its debut May 30.

"'KARA' is the perfect addition to our latest development slate," said Eli Lehrer, vice president of development for Bravo, in a statement. "People have one perception of DioGuardi, but this series will peek behind the curtain and reveal much more interesting and multi-faceted aspects of this incredibly successful, talented artist and business woman."

Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, of the Chaz Bono documentary "Becoming Chaz," along with Tom Campbell serve as executive producers, as do DioGuardi and Stephen Finfer.

Robert De Niro developing Bernie Madoff film for HBO (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Robert De Niro may be stepping into the stinky shoes worn by Bernie Madoff.

U.S. cable network HBO has picked up the rights to "The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust" Diane Henrique's non-fiction book which hit shelves last month about the financial wunderkind who bilked millions from unsuspecting investors.

De Niro and his Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal will produce what is expected to be a starring vehicle for De Niro.

HBO has been in a ripped-from-the-headlines mood of late. Its movie on the 2008 financial crisis, "Too Big To Fail," airs this month, and it is shooting "Game Change," a film about the 2008 presidential election (starring Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin), from the team behind its Emmy-winning "Recount."
