LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Oscar-nominated US actor Jake Gyllenhaal witnessed a gang fight in Los Angeles when he joined the city's police riding along with the cops as research for a new film, the LAPD said Thursday.
Gyllenhaal, star of "Brokeback Mountain" and "Prince of Persia," and actor Michael Pena are preparing for roles in the upcoming film "End of Watch," which deals with a friendship between two police officers.
They decided to get up close and personal with Los Angeles police by joining the department to watch cops at work. But on Wednesday, they got a taste of reality when they witnessed a real-life gang fight.
The two actors were on patrol with a police unit in South Los Angeles -- one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the sprawling metropolis -- when a man was shot at by rival gang members in a park.
The injured man, who had been hit in the arm and the face was hospitalized and his condition was said to be stable, an LAPD spokesman said.
