Singer Facundo Cabral's body returned to Argentina (AP)

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – The body of singer Facundo Cabral was brought home from Guatemala Tuesday on a Mexican Air Force jet, a fitting touch since Cabral spent much of his vagabond life in Mexico, which provided him with a refuge during the Argentine dictatorship.

His widow, Silvia Pousa, and nephew joined foreign minister Hector Timerman and a small group of Guatemalan and Mexican diplomats on the tarmac in Buenos Aires to receive his remains. One official brought from the plane a guitar and a small bag. Cabral had said that was all he needed for his nearly constant singing tours.

His coffin was to be displayed for the public in the Ateneo, the same Buenos Aires theater where he last performed in his native Argentina. Timerman said he would be cremated Wednesday at La Chacarita, a cemetery where Carlos Gardel and many other historic Argentine figures are buried.

Cabral was shot to death Saturday in an attack Timerman said was apparently directed by organized crime figures at Cabral's Nicaraguan concert promoter, Henry Farinas. He was wounded and remains in serious condition, unable to testify yet about what happened, according to Guatemalan authorities.

Prosecutor Mynor Melgar said police are investigating Farinas, but that he had no criminal record, and the motive remains unclear. Farinas owns a chain of strip clubs called "Elite," with branches in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Mexico's Zetas and Sinaloa drug cartels also have a presence in Guatemala and may be competing for territory.

Cabral, 74, rose to fame in the early 1970s, one of a generation of singers who mixed political protest with literary lyrics and created deep bonds with an audience struggling through an era of revolution and repression across Latin America.

Rival fan throws punch at Messi in Argentina (AFP)

BUENOS AIRES (AFP) – A rival fan has thrown a punch at Lionel Messi as the Barcelona star was signing autographs and meeting with fans in his home town in Argentina, according to witnesses.

The star forward played down the incident, which took place in the town of Rosario some 300 kilometers (180 miles) north of Buenos Aires, telling local media he didn't feel a thing and only found out about the punch later.

Witnesses said the assailant was among a group of young people who had gathered to get autographs and that he pulled a hood over his head and ran away after the attack.

Local residents said he was likely a fan of local club Rosario Central, the arch rivals of Newell's Old Boys, a team Messi, 23, once played for.

Fresh from guiding Barcelona to Champions League glory, Messi -- widely regarded as the best player in the world -- now has his sights firmly set on winning the July 1-24 Copa America with Argentina in his home country.

He was instrumental in Barca's 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League final this year, scoring the second goal as the Catalan giants dominated the English champions at Wembley Stadium.

He will be looking to turn around Argentina's terrible run in the Copa America, a tournament they have not won since 1993 in Ecuador.

Argentina seems to like Katie Price (shall we let them keep her?)

Katie Price kicked off her trip to Argentina today, and it seems the people of Buenos Aires are pretty keen on the glamour model, showering her car in rose petals, which is rather different to the treatment she gets off the paps back home in Blighty (you just need to watch Katie on Sky Living tonight at 9pm to see what we mean!). However, after careful investigation it turns out the petal shower was actually for boyfriend Leandro Penna, proving finally that he just might be a proper celeb in Argentina after all!

For the rest of the day, the couple were spotted parading around, doing a bit of shopping and continuing to act out how
