When Whitney Knew Her Sitcom Was Canceled

When Whitney Cummings knew her sitcom was canceled.

Whitney Cummings stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Wednesday night, and told Jay Leno she knew her self-titled sitcom was over long before NBC actually canceled it. And it had something to do with an obtrusive promo for "The Voice."

“I knew we were in trouble when I was watching the show ... And the three chairs from ‘The Voice’ come up [and] fill the whole screen and then they flip around and it’s Christina Aguilera, or Shakira. Same difference," Cummings remembered.

“And then I’m like, 'Oh! Look at ‘The Voice!' And then it just doesn’t go back down. And I was like, 'This can’t be good if they’re airing another show during my show.' But Christina Aguilera was great as the star of ‘Whitney,’ I thought.”

Whitney said she was “heartbroken” over the cancellation, but admitted she doesn’t really fit in on network TV. But she apparently doesn’t fit in on cable, either. E! cancelled her talk show, “Love You Mean It,” after just 12 weeks earlier this year.

But Whitney’s getting back to what she does best: raunchy stand-up. She’ll be performing all over the country this summer.

"The Tonight Show" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET.
