There's a version of "Bridesmaids" that could have featured Matt Damon.
That's the word from director Paul Feig, who spoke at the National Association of Broadcasters trade show in Las Vegas this week about the blockbuster 2011 comedy.
“There was a sequence that Kristen [Wiig] and Annie [Mumolo] had written, which was funny, but it [involved] trying on the dresses, and then Kristen's character had this fantasy about what would she would do in this dress," Feig said (via Variety). "It was really funny, but it was crazy: It was about running through the woods and suddenly Matt Damon shows up."
Feig ultimately decided that the scene was too bizarre for the film, so he and producer Judd Apatow discussed a solution: giving the lead characters a case of food poisoning that results in explosive diarrhea.
"I was a proponent that we needed to tear down the house –- that people want to laugh big," Apatow said about the scene in a 2011 New York Times interview. "I like the sequence because it’s really about the shame that you took everybody to a terrible restaurant because you’re poor, and that’s why I think it works. But it is the biggest laugh I’ve ever seen in a movie, and people are so happy to be able to experience that."
