LONDON (AFP) – The son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour was jailed for 16 months on Friday for an alcohol and drugs-fuelled attack on Prince Charles' convoy during a student protest in London last year.

Charlie Gilmour, 21, had pleaded guilty to violent disorder in May but was granted bail until Friday's hearing at Kingston Crown Court in southwest London in order to complete his exams at Cambridge University.

The former model was found to have hurled a bin at Charles' car and was also accused of smashing a window at a high street store, and was photographed hanging from the Cenotaph war memorial in London during the riot on December 9.

Judge Nicholas Price, passing sentence, said: "It would, in my view, be wrong for me to ignore who the occupants of the three cars were and that's undoubtedly an aggravating feature."

"You should have known better than to behave in such a criminal and reprehensible way," he said.

The judge said Gilmour would spend half the sentence in jail.

David Gilmour adopted Charlie Gilmour when he married his mother Polly Samson. The couple watched from the public gallery as he was sentenced.

Gilmour claimed he had not known what the Cenotaph was.

"For a young man of your intelligence and education and background to profess to not know what the Cenotaph represents defies belief," he said.

Cambridge University would not confirm whether Gilmour would be allowed to resume his studies after he had served his sentence.

"The college notes the gravity of the offence and is firmly opposed to public disorder," said a spokesman for Girton College, where Gilmour studies. "Due legal process has been observed and Mr Gilmour has been tried and sentenced accordingly."

The court heard Gilmour had turned to drink and drugs after being rejected by his biological father, the writer Heathcote Williams, and had taken LSD and valium in the hours leading up to the violence.

Gilmour's barrister, David Spens, said the events of December 9 were a "slap in the face" for Gilmour, which prompted him to stop taking drugs the following day.

The protests last December involved thousands of students demonstrating against the British government's plans to raise university tuition fees to ?9,000 (10,045 euros, $14,825) per year.

Accused Paris Hilton stalker jailed (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – A 36-year-old man previously accused of stalking heiress Paris Hilton was charged and jailed Tuesday for violating a judge's stayaway order, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office said.

James Brian Rainford was arrested Monday for trespassing near Hilton's Malibu home, and was subsequently jailed in breach of the order from last January that prohibited him from coming within less than 200 yards (183 meters) of Hilton. His bail was set at $20,000.

"My stalker needs to leave me alone," Hilton said on her Twitter account Tuesday.

Paparazzi photographers outside Hilton's home had called police after they recognized Rainford, who was arrested last October for harassing the heiress.

In April, Rainford also attacked Hilton's then-boyfriend Cy Waits, for which he was sentenced to 227 days in jail. He was released early, as is customary for minor offenses in California.

Rapper Tone Loc jailed in domestic violence case (AP)

BURBANK, Calif. – The rapper Tone Loc has been arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence in Southern California.

Burbank police Sgt. Tracy Sanchez says 45-year-old Anthony Smith was arrested Saturday. That's Tone Loc's real name.

Sanchez could not confirm that the man arrested is Tone Loc, but Smith's birthdate and description in Los Angeles County jail records match those of the rapper. Sanchez also could not provide any details about the alleged victim or the circumstances.

Smith was being held in a Burbank jail on $50,000 bail.

A message left for Smith's agent Sunday was not immediately returned, and police could not say if he had hired an attorney.

Tone Loc is best known for the 1989 hip-hop hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina."

Doherty jailed for 6 months for cocaine possession (AP)

LONDON – Musician Pete Doherty has been jailed for 6 months after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine.

The troubled British rocker was sentenced by an east London court.

He had been arrested by police investigating the death of heiress Robin Whitehead, who died from a suspected drug overdose last year.

The Babyshambles frontman — who has a history of drug use — had been due to perform a concert in Scotland Friday evening.

Singer Pete Doherty jailed on cocaine charge (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters Life!) – Musician Pete Doherty was jailed for six months on Friday after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, the Press Association reported.

The 32-year-old was arrested in January last year by police investigating the suspected overdose death of heiress Robyn Whitehead.

The controversial Babyshambles singer has been jailed twice before and has repeatedly admitted possession of banned substances.

Judge David Radford said he had an "appalling record" of committing offences, having made 13 other court appearances in the past.

Peter Wolfe, 42, who had pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of cocaine and one count of supplying cocaine to Whitehead, was sentenced to a total of 12 months in prison.

Whitehead, 27, the granddaughter of the late Teddy Goldsmith, founder of The Ecologist magazine, spent the last 10 days of her life making a documentary about Doherty.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan said paramedics were called to Wolfe's flat in Hackney, east London, where Whitehead collapsed on January 24 last year.

They tried to resuscitate Whitehead but she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Toxicology reports found she had a combination of cocaine and heroin in her body and had died of heroin poisoning.

Footage filmed inside the flat two days earlier showed her in the flat with Wolfe and him passing her a crack pipe, which she then smoked.

The prosecutor told Snaresbrook Crown Court that Doherty later joined them and was also filmed smoking on the crack pipe and putting crack cocaine inside it.

She said the drugs offences to which the two men had been charged had been committed between January 22 and 24 but that the crack cocaine that Wolfe had supplied Whitehead with could not have been what killed her.

Judge Radford said she had died from the poisoning of another illegal drug which she had chosen to take.

LONDON (AFP) – A woman found guilty of stalking Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has been jailed for 10 weeks and told not to go near him for a decade.

Susanne Ibru, 38, was put on a restraining order for 10 years after last month being convicted of harassing the England defender.

At Crewe Magistrates' Court in northwest England on Monday, district judge Nicholas Sanders said he was "concerned" by Ibru's behaviour since she had been remanded in custody last month after walking out during the trial.

"The pre-sentence report describes you as living in a fantasy world, unable to interpret social situations and boundaries," the judge told her.

"You display a predatory and manipulative lifestyle and try to deliberately mislead interviewers."

The court heard that Ibru, who like Ferdinand hails from Peckham in south London, had made a 400-mile (650-kilometre) round trip to the centre-half's home south of Manchester on three occasions last year.

Ferdinand, 32, had told the trial he was upset by the visits from Ibru, whom he had never met.

She represented herself in the trial and cross-examined her victim. She fled court during a lunch break and was convicted in her absence.

The court heard that Ibru has previous convictions for assault, public order offences and possessing an offensive weapon.

She pleaded guilty to assault for spitting in the face of the police officer who arrested her.

The restraining order bans Ibru from entering Ferdinand's village, which is home to several top footballers, musicians and actors, and from approaching the defender and his wife, or going to any match or event he is attending.
