Katy Perry, "Teenage Dream" make Billboard history (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Pop princess Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" reached a new height this week as "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" became the album's fifth single to reach the top of Billboard's pop songs chart, marking the first time any album has amassed such a feat in its 19-year history.

If Perry's newest No. 1 also lands atop the Hot 100 later this week, "Teenage Dream" will be the only album other than Michael Jackson's "Bad" to generate five separate No. 1s. "Bad" was released in 1987, before Billboard began issuing the pop song chart.

Prior to "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" reaching No. 1, "Teenage Dream" was tied with Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" (2006-07) and Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (2009) which both had four singles snag the top spot.

"Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" became not only Perry's fifth No. 1 off "Teenage Dream" but her seventh overall, tying her with Lady Gaga for second-most No. 1s since the chart's inception. Rihanna currently holds the record with eight.

Scary movie "Dream House" loses ratings appeal (Reuters)

By Joshua L. Weinstein Joshua L. Weinstein – Wed Jul 6, 7:56 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) – "Dream House," a thriller starring real-life newlyweds Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, has lost a bid to have its "R" rating softened.

The appeals board of the Motion Picture Assn. of America said Wednesday that the movie merited the rating -- which requires U.S. viewers under 17 to be accompanied by an adult -- because of "some violence."

The film's producer still believes it will ultimately receive a PG-13 rating.

"They gave us a list of several things in the movie that they thought should be cut," Greg Mielcarz, Morgan Creek's executive VP of marketing, told TheWrap. "We're going to ... work with them together to ensure that we receive a PG-13."

The Universal Pictures release revolves around a family who discover that their new home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. It was directed by Jim Sheridan, and is set for release on September 30.

In order to have a rating changed, two-thirds of the members of the appeals board have to agree that the rating is "clearly erroneous." The MPAA says that the board reviews between 800 and 900 films each year and that fewer than a dozen ratings are appealed each year.

The 9 O'Clock News - Has Cheryl Cole landed her dream job on the US X Factor?

Next pic

Could Cheryl Cole really be this lucky? After months of wondering it seems like she could have got the job she wanted. According to The People newspaper, Simon Cowell has finally won his battle to have her as a judge on the show, despite her low profile in the states.

A source said: “Doubts over Cheryl’s profile seem to have been dismissed by the reaction to her from people turning up. Fox TV bigwigs dropped many of their objections to her having a judging slot. If she can win over fans so early in her American adventure, she can become a household name when the series starts.

“Even though she is still relatively unknown, Simon told Fox TV executives that Cheryl will prove an instant success with viewers when the series begins. He believes Cheryl has that rare ability to connect with viewers that few others have.”

Does Cheryl really connect with the viewers? We thought Dannii was the best last year, she definitely won the battle of  the lovely frocks. Will the people of America even understand what Cheryl says? They should start watching old episodes of Byker Grove now just to practice.
