Fla. man charged in hacking case ordered to LA (AP)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Florida man charged with hacking into email accounts of celebrities including actress Scarlett Johansson was ordered Friday to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom Nov. 1.

A federal magistrate judge in Jacksonville, Fla., issued the order at a hearing for Christopher Chaney, 35. He faces a 26-count indictment in California that includes charges of identity theft, unauthorized computer access and wiretapping.

At a news conference several hours later, Chaney said he regretted what happened.

"I'm very sorry for all of this," Chaney said outside his attorney's Jacksonville office. "What I am most sorry about is I had to direct my mom into this."

Chaney's parents, Cathy and Jerry, agreed to supervise their son while he is free on $10,000 bail. At the direction of his attorney, Chaney didn't say much more at the news conference.

Chaney has not yet entered a plea, but his attorney told The Associated Press earlier Friday that he deeply regretted what had happened. Authorities say there were more than 50 victims, including actresses Mila Kunis and Renee Olstead and singer Christina Aguilera.

"At this point, he is extremely remorseful and sympathetic to the plight of the stars," said attorney Christopher Chestnut. "He is sorry that all of this is happening."

Chestnut said he wanted Chaney to undergo a psychological evaluation but he wouldn't comment on whether Chaney's psychological condition will play a role in his defense.

"Some of the facts vary," Chestnut said. "We have to get in and see what all the facts are. We can't really speak to all the facts since we don't know them. It's very early in the case."

Chaney has been ordered to stay away from computers and the Internet. He also must live with his parents until the case is resolved.

Chestnut described his client as a "quiet guy, a shy guy," who did clerical work in Jacksonville.

"This isn't a guy that Bill Gates would hire or that Google would recruit out to Silicon Valley," he said. "He's not an extremely sophisticated computer whiz."

Clark Gable grandson charged with crimes in LA (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The grandson of the late actor Clark Gable was charged in Los Angeles on Tuesday with pointing a laser at a police helicopter and momentarily blinding two officers on board, prosecutors said.

Clark James Gable, 22, was set to be arraigned on Friday on three counts of discharging a laser at an aircraft.

The late actor's namesake aimed the green laser at a Los Angeles police helicopter flying above a nighttime event in Hollywood on July 28, according to the local District Attorney's Office.

The laser was flashed twice more at the helicopter, and the officers determined the beam came from a small red car, prosecutors said. Officers on the ground stopped the vehicle, and arrested Gable, who was riding as a passenger.

Gable faces up to three years in prison if convicted.

The late Clark Gable was an Oscar-winning actor best known for his role in 1939 classic film "Gone with the Wind." He died in 1960.

'Girls Gone Wild' creator charged with assault (AP)

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer – Tue Aug 23, 3:31 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – Prosecutors have charged "Girls Gone Wild" creator Joseph Francis with assault, false imprisonment and other misdemeanor crimes for allegedly attacking a woman he met at a Hollywood club, but the businessman said he has witnesses and evidence that will exonerate him.

The charges filed against Francis and his bodyguard stem from an alleged January altercation that began when three women got into his limousine outside a popular nightspot. Prosecutors claim the women thought they were being driven to their car but were taken to Francis' gated home, where a struggle ensued and he allegedly slammed one woman's head on a tile floor.

He faces to five years in jail if convicted, but Francis said in a phone interview Tuesday that he is innocent.

He said he has eight eyewitnesses who will testify on his behalf and security footage from three cameras.

"This did not happen," he said.

He claimed that police and the district attorney's office rejected filing charges against him, but that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is pursuing the case for political reasons.

District Attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison said county prosecutors declined to file felony charges against Francis in late July, but referred the case to Trutanich's office for possible misdemeanor charges.

Francis said Trutanich is trying to prosecute him because the city attorney is considering a run for higher office, a claim that spokesman Frank Mateljan denies. "We filed charges based on the facts in the police report and nothing else," he said.

Trutanich has not yet announced whether he will run for district attorney, but his name has been floated as a possible candidate.

"He is dead in the water," Francis said. "He is going to get embarrassed."

Francis' friend, Mark Rousso, said he was in the limo with the women, and that two of them started fighting with each other on the way to Francis' home.

"It was the other way around," Rousso said. "Joe was trying to stop it."

Another woman, Madi Matichak, said she first met Francis at the club on the night of the incident and that the soft-porn mogul was upstairs when the girls resumed their fight in the driveway of his home.

Francis' bodyguard, Vagram Gegdzhyan, had offered to give them a ride home but called them a cab after one of the women hit him, Matichak said.

Both Francis and Gegdzhyan turned themselves in to police on Monday and were freed on bail. They were scheduled to appear for an arraignment on Sept. 16.

Gegdzhyan, who is also accused of impersonating a peace officer after allegedly flashing a sheriff's deputy's badge in the limo, could be jailed for up to six years if convicted.

In 2008, Francis pleaded no contest to child abuse and prostitution charges in Florida after spending nearly a year in jail. He later won a civil case filed by women who claimed he had caused them emotional distress by making them flash their breasts for some of his "Girls Gone Wild" videos.

The following year he was sentenced to time served and a year of probation after pleading guilty to filing false income tax returns and bribing Nevada jail workers.

Rhys Ifans won't be charged in Comic-Con incident (Reuters)

NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – "The Amazing Spider-Man" villain Rhys Ifans will not be charged in an incident at San Diego's Comic-Con in which he was accused of shoving a female guard, authorities tell TheWrap.

"After reviewing differing witness accounts, our prosecutors concluded there was not sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt," Gina Coburn, a spokeswoman for the San Diego Office of the City Attorney, told TheWrap.

Ifans was cited and released on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after he was accused of shoving the guard while entering the July 22 panel for "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Police said Ifans smelled of alcohol and became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing. They said he shoved the guard in order to pass through, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but that the guard subsequently made a citizen's arrest.

A spokesman for Sony said at the time that Ifans "deeply regrets the incident."

In the new film, due next summer, Ifans plays the villainous Lizard, a scientist who takes on reptilian features after looking for a way to grow back his missing arm.

NYC woman charged with stalking Marion Cotillard (AP)

NEW YORK – French actress Marion Cotillard received threatening emails and videos from a New York City woman through a fan website, law enforcement officials said.

FBI agents said in a court filing that Teresa Yuan sent a series of spooky messages in July to the Oscar winner that included ramblings about wanting to play Russian Roulette with her.

"(W)ould you be willing to play Russian Roulette?" the woman said, according to a complaint that was unsealed Thursday in federal court in the Eastern District of New York. "If you weren't willing and you had no choice, I'd say `yeah, that's pretty unfair.' But would you still like it that at least there's only one bullet in this pistol?"

Yuan faces a charge of interstate stalking. Her lawyer, Michael Schneider, told The New York Daily News (http://nydn.us/r7C02B) he wouldn't comment on the case.

Yuan was arraigned Thursday and released on $50,000 bail. She was ordered to stay away from Cotillard and her fan website, and barred from using Internet access outside her home or on any mobile device. All other Internet use will be monitored.

Cotillard won an Academy Award in 2008 for her role as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose," appears in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and has a role in the upcoming Batman sequel, "The Dark Knight Rises."

The FBI said it received a complaint from the administrator of Cotillard's fan website in April, notifying them of the emails and video sent by Yuan.

By April, the communications had "become increasingly threatening in nature," the court papers say, and Cotillard's "immediate family have become concerned for their physical safety."

Yuan sometimes sent more than 100 email and video messages a day to the website, the court papers say. In one video she says she would feel no regret "after it happens" because "that's apparently how it feels to be a killer."

And in another recording, according to the court papers, Yuan said she could be "very calm and respectful and kind, but then you push me too far or you back me in a corner and this is how I feel ... " — ending the sentence by growling and hissing.

Big Sean and Hansbro were given Sept. 6 court dates for Niagara County Court and released on $500 bail.

Big Sean's real name is Sean Anderson. Scott Leemon, a lawyer for both men, said they "vehemently deny" the charges. He said he's confident they will be cleared after further investigation.

New Yorker charged with stalking French actress Cotillard (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, cast in the next Batman movie, has a role in a real life Gotham crime after a stalker sent threatening messages to her fan site.

Teresa "Terri" Yuan, who lives in Queens, was arrested by the FBI on Thursday last week, said Robert Nardoza, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn, which also covers Queens.

She was charged with sending threatening messages to a French movie actress, according to a criminal complaint. The actress is Cotillard, a law enforcement source told Reuters on Saturday.

Federal authorities have 30 days to seek a grand jury indictment. Yuan was released Friday on $50,000 bond, authorities said.

"The guilt and sorrow I feel now, I won't feel after it happens," said one of the videos Yuan e-mailed from Queens to fan club servers in New Jersey.

"After it happens I'll feel no regret whatsoever...that's apparently how it feels to be a killer, to be a murderer."

Yuan was accused of e-mailing several threatening videos and messages to the website, including one in which she indicated she knew Cotillard's travel schedule and planned to meet her.

No future court dates have been set in the case, which was heard in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, Nardoza said.

Cotillard, 35, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose," also appeared in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," "Inception" and is cast in the upcoming Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."

Yuan's lawyer, Michael Schneider, declined to comment.

Halle Berry stalker charged with burglary too (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – A man accused of stalking Halle Berry was charged Wednesday with an additional count of burglary at the Oscar-winning US actress's Hollywood home.

Richard Franco, 27, allegedly broke into a guest house at Berry's Hollywood Hills property during one of the several times he was spotted there earlier this month.

The former Bond girl said Franco had "terrorized" her over three days from July 9, before he was arrested at 11:15 pm on July 11. "She is in fear for her safety," said prosecutor Wendy Segall.

Franco pleaded not guilty to the first-degree burglary charge, which said he broke into the guest house on July 10.

On July 12, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carol Boas Goodson ordered Franco to stay 100 yards away from 44-year-old Berry and her daughter.

Franco, who is on probation for a battery offense, could be jailed for up to three years if convicted of the stalking charge, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

At a hearing after the alleged stalker's arrest Berry said in a statement to the court: "Richard Franco is a stranger to me and I have no desire to have any contact with him.

"He has terrorized me and my family in three consecutive incidents over the last three days. This person has jeopardized not only my own personal safety, but also the safety and well-being of my family."

Berry, famous for the "X-Men" movie and as a Bond girl in "Die Another Day," won a coveted best actress Oscar in 2002 for her turn in "Monster's Ball," the first such award to an African American actress.

Federal employee charged with accessing celeb info (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO – A U.S. State Department employee in San Francisco is facing charges that he looked up the passport applications of more than 100 celebrities in the government records system.

Federal prosecutors charged 60-year-old Richard Macias on Wednesday with three misdemeanor counts of exceeding authorized computer access.

Authorities say Macias worked for the passport agency for 24 years, most recently as a fraud prevention manager. They say he logged into the system 168 times to view and sometimes print out celebrity applications.

Macias told the San Francisco Chronicle that he plans to plead guilty in the case. He maintains that he viewed the applications for work and that none of the information was ever given away or used for profit.

Neither authorities nor Macias would name the celebrities involved.

US man charged with stalking Halle Berry (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – A man was charged Wednesday with stalking Halle Berry after he repeatedly turned up at her Hollywood home, in what the Oscar-winning US actress said had "terrorized" her and her family.

Richard Franco, 27, allegedly went to Berry's Hollywood Hills home several times between Saturday and Monday this week, when he was arrested at 11:15 pm by the former Bond girl's personal security guards.

Man arrested outside Paris Hilton's home charged (AP)

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer – Tue Jul 5, 8:12 pm ET

LOS ANGELES – A man arrested outside Paris Hilton's coastal home was charged Tuesday with disobeying a court order to stay away from the socialite.

Sheriff's deputies arrested James Rainford on Monday, the third time in less than a year that the 36-year-old has been jailed for trying to meet Hilton.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon and was being held on $30,000 bail, district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.

Jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney.

Authorities said Rainford was arrested Monday after paparazzi who were outside Hilton's home recognized him.

A judge issued a restraining order in October after Rainford was arrested outside Hilton's Hollywood Hills home.

He was arrested earlier this year after he attempted to grab Hilton's then-boyfriend, Cy Waits, outside a Los Angeles courthouse where the pair testified against another man who attempted to burglarize the hotel heiress' home in the Hollywood Hills.

Rainford pleaded no contest in April to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 227 days in jail, but records show he was released May 20.

Rainford was released after serving less than a month because of jail overcrowding and mandatory credits imposed by the state, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

He is due back in court July 15.

LONDON – Two men charged with plotting to rob and assault British soul singer Joss Stone had a samurai sword in their car when they were arrested, a lawyer said Thursday.

Junior Bradshaw, 30, and 33-year-old Kevin Liverpool were arrested Monday morning near Stone's house in the town of Cullompton, 175 miles (280 kilometers) southwest of London, after residents reported a suspicious-looking vehicle.

They appeared Thursday at Exeter Magistrates' Court in southwest England on charges of conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

The defendants spoke only to confirm their identities and were ordered detained until their next hearing on July 1. No members of Stone's family were in court.

The 24-year-old singer, who is due to start a European tour next month, said in a statement that she was "absolutely fine and getting on with life as normal."

Two men charged in plot targeting singer Joss Stone (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) – Two men have been charged over an alleged plot to target soul singer Joss Stone, police in southwest England said on Wednesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted by suspicious locals and arrested the pair near Stone's home in the town of Cullompton, in the county of Devon, on Monday morning.

The men Junior Bradshaw, 30, and Kevin Liverpool, 33, both from the northern English city of Manchester, were charged with conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. They will appear at Exeter Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

British media reported that the men were involved in a suspected plot to target Stone, 24, who has sold around 11 million albums and has a personal fortune estimated at 9 million pounds ($15 million).

"I'd like to thank everyone for their concern but I'm absolutely fine and getting on with life as normal while the police continue with their inquiries," Stone said in a statement.

Stone, who attended the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in April, is due to go on tour next month.

It was not immediately clear whether she was at her home in the Cullompton area on Monday.

Detective Inspector Steve Parker, who is leading the investigation, said: "The two men in custody had in their possession information relating to an individual in the Cullompton area and items which lead us to suspect that they may have intended to commit a criminal offense.

"We're unable to say any more at this time but I would like to thank the local residents for reporting the suspicious car."

Rapper Flo Rida charged with DUI in Miami Beach (AP)

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A large crowd pleaded with officers to let rapper Flo Rida go and one fan offered to drive him home after he was charged with driving under the influence early Thursday in Miami Beach, police said.

According to an arrest report, officers spotted his 2008 Bugatti driving erratically about 3:45 a.m. The report said the rapper, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, failed a field sobriety test, blew twice the legal limit on a device to measure his blood-alcohol level, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and slurred his speech.

After his second attempt at trying to walk a straight line the rapper said, "officers, I can't do this. I don't feel I can walk a straight line. I had a few drinks. Let's try another test. I live on the other side of the bridge. I can make it home," according to the Miami Beach Police.

The 31-year-old was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license after failing to pay a traffic ticket. He was later released on $2,000 bail and a judge signed an order allowing him to fly Thursday night to Bangkok, Thailand, to perform several concerts, said his lawyer Christopher Lyons. The order requires Flo Rida to return June 16.

Lyons declined comment on the charges, saying he wanted to conduct his own investigation.

Flo Rida's debut song, the party jam "Low," and "Right Round" both hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

NFL great Joe Montana's son charged with drunken driving (Reuters)

HELENA, Mont (Reuters) – College football quarterback Nate Montana, son of NFL Hall of Fame star Joe Montana, was arrested early on Friday in Missoula, Montana, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Nate Montana, 21, was stopped at about 4 a.m. local time for speeding and refused to submit to an alcohol breath test, but the arresting officer nevertheless found him to have been driving under the influence, said Jason Johnson a spokesman for the county sheriff's department.

The athlete was subsequently booked into the Missoula County Jail on a DUI first offense -- a misdemeanor traffic infraction -- and was released after posting a $685 bond, Johnson said.

Conviction on a misdemeanor traffic offense in Montana typically results in 24 hours mandatory jail time and fines of up to $1,000. A judge will also often require an alcohol treatment course.

Drivers who refuse to submit to a Breathalyzer or blood-alcohol test may also have their license suspended or revoked. Montana has the highest alcohol-related traffic fatality rate of any state in the country.

Montana transferred from Notre Dame to the University of Montana in Missoula in February and is vying for the starting quarterback spot there.

University of Montana Executive Vice President Jim Foley said, "The university will continue to monitor the judicial process, and any discipline will be handled internally."

Montana was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon, where he is to enter a plea.

His father, considered by many to have been the greatest quarterback ever to play pro football, led the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl victories during the 1980s at the height of his 14-year NFL career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000.
