'Twilight' co-stars surprise fans at Comic-Con (AP)

SAN DIEGO – Early risers among "Twilight" fans have gotten a chance to see what some of their big-screen idols look like first thing in the morning.

Not long after dawn broke Thursday, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser and other co-stars of the supernatural movie franchise made a surprise visit to greet fans who had camped out for days to catch a preview of the next "Twilight" flick at Comic-Con.

Greene, Reed and Reaser, who play members of the Cullen vampire family in "Twilight," were joined by Julia Jones and Boo Boo Stewart, who co-star as kinfolk in the rival werewolf pack.

The actors signed "Twilight" posters, mugs and other movie memorabilia, posed for pictures with fans and even served some breakfast goodies to "Twi-hards," some of whom were in line since Monday afternoon to get into the preview at Comic-Con, a massive gathering for fans of comics, video games, television and film.

"I am a morning person, but this is definitely early, getting up at 4:30," Reed said. "But when people have been camped out since Monday, you just feel it's a good idea to come out and surprise them."

"I feel like this is our time to get out and have actual experiences with fans," Reaser said. "Being out here with them makes me feel the films are special, important and really mean something to them."

Seven friends, including Monica Foltz, 26, of San Diego, and Candie Hattori, 37, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, were first in line. They tried to camp out in front of the San Diego Convention Center as early as Sunday but were told by security officers that they had to leave. They came back a day later and were allowed to stay, securing the first spots in line among a rush of other fans.

"A bunch of people all got here at the same time. It was a matter of who pounced first," Foltz said.

She and her friends, along with hundreds of others, gasped in surprise and began clapping and cheering as the actors arrived.

"Oh my God!" one fan shouted to friends after she got Reed and Greene to sign a poster for her.

"Unbelievable! My heart is racing. It doesn't matter how old you are, you still feel that little twitter," said Hattori, who got the stars to sign her Comic-Con badge and a laminated cut-out of "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson that she and friends around the country mail back and forth to one another. They call it "traveling Edward," after Pattinson's vampire character, Edward Cullen.

Pattinson and fellow stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner also were in town for the Comic-Con panel offering fans a look at this fall's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1."

'DWTS' Winner Not a Blonde Celebrity; No Surprise (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and dancing partner Kym Johnson were named the winners of "Dancing with the Stars" Tuesday, reports Reuters. Statistically not a shocker, as the pair danced off against two blonde celebrities in the season finale: actress Kirstie Ally and Disney star Chelsea Kane. In the 12 season history of the popular celebrity dancing show, a fair-haired (at the time) star has only once victoriously claimed the prized Mirror Ball trophy. That honor went to gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson in the show's eighth season.

Given his smoothly shaved head, Ward's black hair is only shown in his barely there facial hair -- similar to season three winner Emmitt Smith, only not as abundant. Which also means more bald men have won than blonds.

Non-Blond Celebs Rule 'DWTS'

The overwhelming amount of triumphant dark-haired celebrities to win the ballroom competition is a trend that started in the summer of 2005, when "General Hospital" actress Kelly Monaco became the first "DWTS" winner. A blonde, Stacy Keibler took third place in season two, an occurrence that wouldn't repeat again until after Johnson's win. Season 10 also featured a pale-tressed third place star.

In fact, out of 12 seasons and 36 final three competitors, only six of the celebrities have been blond. These include Alley, Kane, Johnson and Keibler, leaving only Kelly Osbourne and Erin Andrews to finish off the list. Alley won the distinction Tuesday night of becoming the first blond (albeit dyed) to win second place.

Even the 'DWTS' Judges are Brunette

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli both have brunette locks. What about head judge Len Goodman's silvery white hair? Once upon a time, the dancer enjoyed a full head of dark strands.

Even of the nine guest judges, Osbourne has been the only one to have blonde hair at the time. She appeared on the show in that capacity last season.

Blonds May Have More Fun, but Can They Dance?

Just using "Dancing with the Stars" as an example, you might start to believe that blonds just aren't as good on the dance floor. That, perhaps, the best of sultry gracefulness can only be found in the movements of the brunette or ebony-haired. That is, if you ignore an important aspect of the show: the pro dancers.

Watching the stars bust a move is novel and even sometimes beautiful, but make no mistake, the superior dancing is naturally to be found in the bodies of the professional dancers. On the "DWTS" stage, it is the blond pros who have the majority of Mirror Ball wins.

Keep in mind that out of 12 seasons, only seven dancers have been part of winning pairs. Three have been blond, dancing to victory a combined total of seven times. Tow-headed three-time champ Derek Hough leads the pros in all-time wins. His sister, Julianne Hough, and Kym Johnson, equally fair-haired, have each won twice.

Would Kirstie Alley be celebrating a win right now, instead of Hines Ward, had she only gone back to brunette? Probably not. Hines consistently impressed the judges and had the support of his fans. The "Dancing with the Stars" winner typically being dark-haired is likely coincidence. Besides, that tactic didn't pan out for Audrina Patridge last season.

Pippa Middleton: surprise star of the royal wedding (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) – As Catherine enjoys her honeymoon with new husband Prince William after a flawless royal wedding, back home her little sister Pippa has sparked a media storm all of her own.

The two sisters had long been seen together at parties, the pair strangely interchangeable with their glossy brown hair and figure-hugging dresses.

But at the royal wedding on April 29, it was Pippa who emerged the star for many of the two billion viewers worldwide, looking gorgeous as maid of honour in a figure-hugging white Alexander McQueen dress.

Twitter exploded into a frenzy of admiration, and more than 200,000 Facebook users have now joined the "Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society".

A mock-up video using footage from the wedding showing close-ups of Pippa's behind has been viewed 550,000 times on YouTube, and a US porn mogul meanwhile has offered her $5 million to star in "one explicit scene".

The 27-year-old fuelled the interest at the wedding by flirting with the best man, William's younger brother Prince Harry, sparking huge online debate about whether a second Middleton sister would soon become a royal bride.

Pippa had been a well-known figure on Britain's social circuit for years, and in 2008 she was named the most eligible singleton in society magazine Tatler. But it was not until a fortnight ago that the world caught up.

"It's all about that bridesmaid's dress. She just looked stunning," said Joe Sene, head of editorial UK at the Splash news and picture agency.

"We have had calls for photos of her left, right and centre. Publications around the world have been calling us wanting more pictures of her."

Explaining her appeal, he told AFP: "Kate's now married and so Pippa is the available Middleton sister, as well as being a slightly sassier version."

While Pippa is not single -- she is dating former cricketer Alex Loudon -- she is more eligible than her sister, whose entry into domestic bliss was confirmed last week when she was photographed doing the weekly shop.

She also always looks good and smiles for the cameras, often with a glint in her eye that Catherine does not have.

"Pippa's strikingly attractive. She's a bit of a socialite, she's out with the right sort of people and that makes her interesting," said Phil Hall, a former editor of the News of the World and of Hello! magazine.

Pippa initially seemed to enjoy the attention, but was confronted with the ugly side of fame at the weekend when a tabloid newspaper published pictures of her topless on a 2006 family holiday.

The Middleton family acted swiftly, complaining to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), a regulatory body which enforces a voluntary code of conduct agreed by Britain's newspapers.

Other embarrassing photographs have emerged, however, including one of Pippa in a purple bra posing at a party, and another of her wearing nothing but toilet paper wrapped around her like a dress.

The pictures have spoilt an otherwise perfect media operation around William and Catherine -- the latter has never put a foot wrong and been careful not to feed the tabloid press who hounded William's late mother, Diana, to her death.

A palace spokeswoman refused to comment on the storm around Pippa, saying: "It's not something we would get involved in. She's a private individual."

The question now is whether Pippa will shy away from her newfound publicity, or use it to her advantage, including by furthering her business interests.

Having graduated with a degree in English from Edinburgh university in Scotland, Pippa now works three days a week for Table Talk, an event catering company in London.

The rest of the time she is at the Middleton family party supplies business, where she set up an online newsletter, Party Times. Both businesses would benefit from her new high profile and royal connections.

However, Mark Borkowski, who has handled the publicity for stars including Michael Jackson, warned she must be careful.

"Fame can be toxic, and there are more casualties than successes," he told AFP. "To manage this level of fame and global attention takes a lot of people and a lot of money... she can't do it by herself."

Carrie Ann Inaba Gets Surprise On-Air Proposal

Carrie Ann Inaba got more than she bargained for when she agreed to sub for Kelly Ripa on today's episode of 'Live With Regis and Kelly' -- 2.5 carats more, to be exact.

The 'Dancing With the Stars' judge was surprised on-air by her boyfriend of two years, Jesse Sloan, when he asked for her hand in marriage.

Earlier in the show, Inaba, 43, denied reports that she was engaged, showing off her bare ring finger to the audience.

In the show's final minutes, all of that changed. The lighting crew set the mood as violinists ushered in the would-be groom, who told told Inaba how beautiful and inspiring she was to him, finally working up the nerve to ask, "Will you marry me?"
Inaba joyfully responded, "Yes! I will marry you!" and showed off her new 2.5-carat Rafinity princess-cut ring to the audience.

If things hadn't gone as planned, Inaba always had a second choice: newly single Jake Gyllenhaal, who toasted the happy couple with fellow guest Howie Mandel following the proposal, had offered himself -- and a fake ring -- to Inaba before Sloan arrived with the real thing.
