Robert Downey, Jr. And Jon Favreau Talk End of 'Iron Man'

Robert Downey, Jr. Talks About The End Of The 'Iron Man' Franchise On 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart'

With the premiere only a few days away now, it seems like everybody involved with "Iron Man 3" has been doing the talk show circuit to promote it. Robert Downey, Jr. was hanging out over on "The Daily Show" mere moments before Jon Favreau dropped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Both men were asked about the future of the film franchise.

Jon Stewart asked Downey about the long-term contracts most of the Marvel movie actors have signed. "I had a long contract with them and now we’re gonna renegotiate," Downey said with a wink and a smile. Does that promise more "Iron Man" in the future -- either in "Iron Man 4" or perhaps just future "Avengers" films.

Favreau stepped back from directing this latest film, though he still produces and stars in it, and made a statement that sounded at least a bit more final. "You try so hard and you’re proud of what you’ve done, and now somebody else is taking it across the finish line," he told Jimmy Kimmel. "They did a wonderful job. I’m very happy. I can rest easy now."

Downey talked a little bit more about his role in the larger Marvel movie universe in a recent "Access Hollywood" interview. "We’re kind of closing this circle and this chapter and their whole body of work with all the other franchises and ‘Avengers’ and all that stuff," he said. "I’m an integral part of it, but I’m not the be all, end all for it."

Could he mean there will be life after Tony Stark for the Marvel movies, or could another man take over the role as has been done for so many other superhero franchises. Either way, fans can definitely look forward to "Iron Man 3" when it premieres in theaters May 3. The film is getting rave reviews from critics so far.
