NEW YORK – It's time to say goodbye to the Fab Four cover band on Broadway after a long and winding road.
"Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway" will play its final performance Sept. 4 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
The show is an extended Beatles concert with near-perfect reproductions of "Hard Day's Night," "Yesterday," "Eleanor Rigby" and "Strawberry Fields," among many others.
Originally intended as a 13-week stand, the show opened at the Neil Simon Theatre in October, recouped its $2 million investment in seven weeks, extended and moved into the smaller Brooks Atkinson in February.
But it has been struggling at the box office. Last week, it took in $263,000 from a potential $904,000.
A U.S. tour is under way.
