NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The many facets of country music in the 21st century will be on display during the 10th annual CMT Music Awards.
Juggernaut Jason Aldean leads all nominees with four and is joined by a field of the usual suspects Wednesday night at the Bridgestone Arena. But other nominees this year include rock group Staind frontman Aaron Lewis, gothic folk duo The Civil Wars and a collaboration between Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow.
The fan-voted awards often lean left of the dial with interesting mashups and irreverent moments. This year, Taylor Swift and Shania Twain will open the show by recreating a scene from the classic movie "Thelma & Louise" and there will be performances by Aldean, Crow, Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and more.
Even NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" washout Gary Busey will be on hand. The reality show's winner, John Rich, will perform with Big & Rich as well.
The always boisterous Kid Rock hosts for the second straight year.
Fans have been voting on the winners for weeks, but there's still work to do. Four finalists for video of the year will be announced at the beginning of the show and fans will determine the winner over the next few hours.
Video of the year contenders include Aldean, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Lady A, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and The Band Perry.
Aldean also is up for male video of the year, collaborative video for "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Kelly Clarkson and web video.
